Born prematurely doctors said, she would, never be able to walk, talk, think or achieve anything in life. They were wrong! Her parents loved & raised her, in Lizzie's words, "150% normally". As a young child she'd never realized how different she was to others physically. On her 1st day in school, she approached another little girl who was reading a book & said "Hi" & the child looked at her, as if she was "the scariest monster", she'd set eyes upon. Lizzie's 1st thoughts were, "she's really rude." She soon found many others rejected & wanted nothing to do with her & bullying soon followed because her appearance was different. Lizzie persisted & in time made friends, who would stand up for her. She nevertheless still had to deal with constant ridicule & name calling from other kids & sometimes adults too. She didn't give up though & though she felt constantly self conscious, she enrolled in many extra curricular activities from book clubs to the school cheer leading squad & she did well at school too. Once she got to high school, though the bullying never stopped Lizzie was beginning to feel more self confident. Then when she was 17 some lowlife tosspot put up a 7 second video on YouTube outube, labelling her the "The World's Ugliest Woman." The video revieved 4 million views afore finally being taken down. The comments section was exclusively of vile negative comments like "kill it with fire" & "put a gun to head & pull the trigger".

Thus far, after defining the mechanisms by which #cyberbullies operate, afore cited studies were highlighted that demonstrate both a disproportionate victimisation of people of disability online, across the board, which the most targetted subsets, being people with any kind of discernable learning difference or people of different facial appearance. The 3 women from whose pages, the images on this reel have been swiped, are the 1st in focus #arielhenley (@arielhenley - The 1st 4 images & clip 1) #lizzievelasquez (@littlelizziev clip 2) & #melissablake (@melissablake81 - Clip 10) - All 3 women having syndromes which are impactual upon their facial/ physical appearance: they have extensive experience of #bullying & activism. Each has expertise in #disabilityrights, issues of #disfigurement stigma & inclusion. Starting with Henley, as previously stated, along with her twin sister, Zan, Ariel was diagnosed with #crouzonsyndrome, also known as craniofacial dysotosis, when they were just 8 months of age. The condition causes the bones, in a person's head to fuse or seam together prematurely. This is a rare syndrome that occurs in 1.6, in every 100,000 people but the sisters are in a sense all the more unique as they were to 1st surviving twins to both have crouzon. In their formative years, the siblings had to be put through numerous, excruciating appearance impactful surgical procedures. The bone's of the girls' skulls & faces would have to be broken over & over again, so as to make room for the internal organs of their heads, to be able to keep going. As painful as this sounds & must surely have been, in her autobiography #afaceforpicasso, 21, Ariel explains, that as bad as all this surgery was, it pails to insignificance when "compared to the emotional toll of navigating life with a facial disfigurement." With reference to the title of her book, Henley elaborates, that she was "deeply ashamed and embarrassed when I found my face had been compared to a Picasso painting. Zero Tolerance For #grammernazis & Other #abelist #bullies Pt 32: Most instances of abelist #cyberbullying remain unknown to all but those concerned & never make the sphere of the public domain. Often times, sustained, cruel, corrosive cyber campaigns go forever unexposed. No resolve is reached & the harm done is recognised as no more than a faceless statistic. In those rare instances, in which legal proceedings are taken, which the press picks up upon, (Which in non celebrity cases, are surprisingly limited in number, given the precedence of this issue) at best the coverage, tends to only show little more than surface snapshot, of events pertinent to legal proceedings. The socio-cultural environment in which #cybertrolls are able to pick on & victimise venerable people, seemingly with impunity is never addressed. The story of what preceded & the long term impact of this bullying fall beyond the scope of journalistic concern. In researching such matters, most often, there's not enough information the matter to be covered here - all that is given is bullet point news items. A learning difference or "disorder" & maybe the victim's name will be mentioned but ultimately the person does not enter the pictures, in any way more meaningful than faceless, statistical terms. Increasing awareness, with the objective of building empathy is among the most powerful of forces against bullying. With the focus on the cyber victimisation of of people of different appearance - the 3 #antibullying campaigners featured in the reel #arielhenley, #melissablake & #lizzievelasquez, each of whom epitomize the meaning of #innerbeauty were in 2020, as previously explained, amid the targets of an abelist TiK Tok cyber bully challenge, where adults tried so scare their kids with images of people with syndromes, that are impactual on each in turn. Zero Tolerance For #grammernazis & Other #abelist #bullies Pt 31: Continuing from the last post - due to a lack of available information this series is have to jump over the initial plan to hone in for an extended section on Downs Syndrome & #cyberbullying - numerous campaign groups high people with the condition to be disproportionately targetted & disproportionately vunerable to #cyberbullies. Don't take it as a positive sign that an pretty extensive media search only unveiled 1 example. The media only pick up on big cases, which are successfully prosecuted cases. Given what is known of the prevelence of such #bullying the lack of media coverage, is I fear only indicative of authorities having failed to successfully prosecute #onlinebullies who pick on people with down syndrome. To repeat the Leonard Cheshire group, found that the most disproportionately bullies, of all otherwise abled sets are those with any form of discernable #learningdisability or difference is the word I prefer to you & those with visible facial differences. This extends to facially disfigured people, who are not otherwise abled. The Leonard Cheshire group highlighted cases of people with facial burns & other heavy visible scarring being attacked by multiple bullies both on & off line. Tik Tok, who restrict the reach of "vunerable" account holders, as previously detailed with regards to the so call "Autism Challenge", can be a cesspit of ablist hatred. In 2020, a similarly toxic trend kicked off on & spread beyond the platform. The idea of the challenge was for parents (yes this bullying campaign was orchestrated by adults & not kids to young to know better.) to scare their children with photos of disfigured (including it's reported a woman's with deadly cancerous tumours on her face.) 3 of the victims of this craze, were notable #antibullying campaigners #arielhenley, (Pic 7) #melissablake (Pic 8) & #lizzievelasquez. Quiero que conozcan la historia de una extraordinaria mujer a quién conocí esta semana. . Ella se llama @littlelizziev , nacida hace 33 años con una condición similar a Progeria, que hace que su masa muscular y grasa sea mínima, dándole una apariencia característica a su rostro y cuerpo. Por ello sufrió de #bullying todo el tiempo en su escuela, fue catalogada como la mujer "más fea del mundo", y pensó muchas veces en quitarse la vida. Pero saben que cambió? Que hizo la diferencia? Sus padres, su familia, la fuerza que le dieron para sentir que su apariencia no era la que definiría quien era ella; era su interior, su corazón y su alma. . Que hermoso mensaje! Que linda manera de darle fuerza y coraje a un hij@. Y aún más importante, Lizzie nos pide que les enseñemos a nuestros hijos lo siguiente: " Por favor, no enseñes a tus hijos que está bien tener miedo de alguien que es diferente. Cuando los adultos tienen miedo, estos niños reciben abusos. Este es un ejemplo perfecto de que enseñar compasión y aceptación empieza en casa. Sean buenos los unos con los otros. Ahora lo necesitamos más que nunca”. .
