Today's service at @clarwanda focused on effectively supporting those who #mourn. This is key if we are really going to be agents of healing and change in today's world. Sometimes the church does not do this well.💔 Pastor Derrick shared two key points: ✨️ Recognise those who mourn (empathy) ✨️ Stand with those who mourn (compassion) This seemingly simple formula is a powerful framework to help people through difficult seasons of pain, loss and mourning. Romans 12:15 commands us to mourn with those who mourn. Galatians 6:2 says that we are to carry each other's burdens. This is how we fulfill true religion. Sometimes, in a bid to provide support when people are mourning, we come across as #insensitive, #judgmental or #distant. The Bible makes it clear - mourn with those who mourn. It does not say judge or teach or scold in the time of mourning. Empathy requires us to have a tender spirit that recognizes when people are hurting. Sometimes we get so busy with life that we forget to check in with those around us. Are we connected enough to notice that people have disconnected? Are we mindful to social cues? Empathy requires us to recognize that people are hurting. Compassion in the Hebrew word is "Rekhum" which is linked to the word for womb "Rekhem" shows the depth we must have for others. Compassion means we must allow ourselves to be moved by the pain of others. Jesus is our role model for this. John chapter is 11 is instructive on how we walk in true compassion: 1) Be present - do not despise or trivialize what someone is going through with words (however wise or spiritual sounding it may seem). Be present and weep aloud with them (John 11:35 / Job 2:12-13) 2) Provide consolation and practical support. 3) Pray with them (not for them). Be intentional about praying as you stand with them. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God." DAY 5 GRIEF JOURNEY: There is a unique feeling walking out infront of a crowd of people to a square ring or to an octagon cage to fight someone unknown, this walk has at times had my knees weak. Today the walk holding the coffin which my mother will be laid to rest in was by far the hardest walk I’ve ever had to make. My first love, my bestfriend, my rock, my very first teacher, my movie/breakfast/lunch/dinner date will be buried tomorrow. First & foremost I want to thank my Heavenly Father for giving me the strength to stand in this time of hardship. The thing about my musical Silhouettes Of Scarlet, I’m learning to stick up for myself in a more unapologetic manner. A lot of folks view me as an headstrong individual, however, the truth of the matter is at times I fold. No one would ever know. This all comes being in a position of directing. This is my third show I ever directed in the theatre space. Its not a matter of toxic masculinity and fear of showing emotion. I often wonder if people can hold my heavy spirit. To clarify, its no one’s job to lift me up, but myself. With that I been extremely private with how I been moving. Therapy. Work. Music. Moms. Business. I still grieve my pops and lost love ones. Remedy my resentment that constantly wades. Letting the work speak for itself. I been manifesting for two summers that 2024 is going to be the year everything changes. As I constantly speak on change its no secret that I am not a fan experiencing change. Being in such a position, in the thick of change I’m so uncomfortable. Unbelievably uncomfortable, but what can I do? I asked and prayed for this advancement. This is another period of adapting. Today is a day to give an offering to honor my ancestors. This includes my loved ones who gave passed away. My grandmother passed away on the 26th of this month, my cousin on the 5th, my best friends Mom on the 11th. I'm full of so many emotions that I can not describe. I have empathy for those who lost their mom and husband. Over the next few months, so many will be remembered and memoralized. There is truly no right or wrong way to remember our loved ones, as long as we never forget them. Just as long as we never forget them, they will alwqys be with us. If I Were to Die Today As I’ve entered my 75th year, these thoughts are ones on which I ponder. My sudden death could be seen as an impersonal, remote statistic of aging mortality: Perhaps another stroke but big enough to kill, this time, Perhaps a heart attack — after all, ventricular hypertrophy is thickening the walls of my heart, Perhaps a fatal accident. Any of these would be preferable to Alzheimer’s — a distinct risk-factor to stroke survivors. Or it could be seen as a personal loss by people who love me. Memories could sustain them or make them cry as they mourn. There are boxes of old photos and my words, released to the world in poetic imagery, no longer in closeted notebooks, some in my Poetic Self-Portrait, most on Instagram. “Systems now settled into their sockets” Maybe, just maybe, at some far future-date, memories held by my grandchildren may be told to their own, but no more than two generations away. Deeply rooted in ancestral experiences, wisdoms passed into outreaching branches. Maybe something will grow from my imagery as does a mighty oak from an acorn, awaiting its season. Maybe a dog-eared copy of my book will, eventually, make it to a garage sale. Maybe a lover of poetry will swoon over a bit of metaphor and a good bargain. …….
