For long-term storage of the Flame or Firebird overskirt worn by Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil in 102 Dalmatians, we chose to store the overskirt on a dress form supported by a hip pad and shoulder tapes to take pressure off of the waist. Then, a lightweight custom Tyvek cover was made by former Sage Collection super Director Kate Rowold, our favorite volunteer. The dress form is elevated a few inches via a block on which the dress form base sits. Anyone watch “The New Look?” The title of the series came from the nickname the then Editor and chief of Harper’s Bazaar, Carmel Snow, coined Christian Dior’s first Fashion Show at the House of Dior. Slide one is @christiandior_official flagship store in Paris. The series tells the story of Christian Dior, his sister Katherine, Coco Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Balenciaga and other fashion designers, and how they navigated the World War II years and beyond. I thought the Diors and Balenciaga very sympathetic characters… Coco Chanel? Not so much. Played brilliantly by Juliette Binoche, she appears to have a controversial and dark past not spoken about in today’s fashion world.
