Stapled books. I really like collecting unique staple books, small ones about something really particular. A canoe manual, The Axe Book, a small german english dictionary from the 1920s, a guide to the Isle of Skye, and The Metropolitan Cook Book. In the german workbook, other than the young person’s list of movies they’d like to see, there’s a magazine cutout of Jimmy Stewart. How cool is that? And the cook book contains vintage coupons as well as some pretty vintage recipes, and advice on maintaining a clean icebox. Speaking of things that make me smile, I also would like to add to the list this egg-tarragon-salad-sandwich I spoiled myself with for lunch today. While you boil the egg, mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, capers, juice from half a lemon and tarragon. Once the egg is boiled hard, peel and cut in small pieces and mix with the other ingredients. Serve with a pea salad (for dressing I used the zest and juice of the other half of the lemon) and a toasted sourdough bread. Tomorrow I enter my third trimester of pregnancy ❤️ as hard as it has been on my body.. I am so blessed and grateful for the opportunity to make life. It was the perfect day ☀️. The perfect send off. The perfect end 😊 Yesterday I ran with around 40,000 people or so in the 40th Annual Vancouver Sun Run (the largest 10km race in North America). What a stark contrast to when I ran it last year (hoping that then was my last hurrah) when was literally pouring rain 🌧️ the whole run/ day! Yesterday was sunny, cool (7 degrees Celsius), no wind. I admit that even though I have run it a number of times before I was still a bit nervous going in. It was not my fastest run ever (that was back in 2010 - 43.02) yet, & even more important to me now, it was an enjoyable run 🏃🏻♂️. My time was 46.09- still within my category- men 38.01-49.00 / women 44.01-49.00) I am at a point in my life where enjoying the experience is more important than the outcome / destination & that’s why I came back this year for one last kick at the can. So after running 🏃🏻♂️ this race a number of times and 2 marathons (2009/2019) I am done with racing. I don’t need to “prove myself” to myself or anyone else. I will always and still enjoy running 🏃🏻♂️ (it’s just what I do) yet the commitment, time, dedication, energy to train isn’t something that appeals to me anymore. Can anyone else relate to what I am saying?? As with finishing the BMO Vancouver marathon in 2019 it was nice to enjoy a celebratory meal after at a nice restaurant by the water - Cactus Club Cafe with loved ones (had my Mom & child in 2019 - this time just my wonderful child Bri was there to celebrate with me). A full line of washing blowing in the wind against a backdrop of a blue sky and a few fluffy white clouds is one of my favourite sights in the world. There are no trumpets, fireworks, or awards to be had. And yet, that washing blowing in the breeze signifies so many small, arguably mundane things coming together to create a beautiful moment. A beautiful moment that, if I’m not careful…. I will miss; as I race on to the next thing. I have noticed that when we focus only on, or get too excited about planning, goal setting, measuring productivity or achieving our results…. We risk missing many amazing moments that happen along the way. ☕️The coffee meeting with a new friend 🏡The joy of time spent with loved ones in the garden 💷That feeling when your money finally makes sense 🚙The car starting first time 🍽️Eating a tasty meal that you’ve learnt to cook yourself All things that might not happen without a mixture of tiny simple or mundane things coming together to create a beautiful moment. Things that, without realising it, you have helped make happen. Some clever soul once said something like, “It’s the journey, not the destination, that matters”, and this is never truer than when you’re creating and living your life. So as you gear up for a fresh week, continuing to create your dream life and taking next steps towards your goals, preparing to diligently churn through that to-do list and achieve that perfect outcome….
