📚 In February, we participated in the 3rd LTTA within the Speak Up for Yourself project, hosted in Napoli, Italy by the staff of Paidea. The first product I’m going to review are @alpinehearingprotection ear defenders. Ear defenders are essential to our son who has sensory processing disorder. He wears them in the supermarkets, fun parks, school, near roads. Anywhere where there could be noises that make him uncomfortable. We tried many brands of ear defenders. Whilst all of them delivered protection against sounds and loud noises, some of them we found weren’t comfortable for him to wear for long periods of time. We found alpine hearing protection “Muffy Kids” on google and we decided to give them a go. They come in 6 different colours (pink, mint, yellow, olive green, black and blue), they’re foldable, adjustable and cushioned. The Muffy Kids are for children aged 5-16. They are easy to wipe down if they get dirty and they don’t take up much room in our already full back pack! Our son can wear them all day and the best thing about them…. They do not leave red rings around his ears or make him sweat no matter if the weather is hot or freezing! They come with a cute little silky pouch to keep them in if you wish. Very reasonably priced at £24.95 on their website and were delivered to us within 2 days! Bath time - kids either love it or hate it 🛁 We have a couple of tips to make it more enjoyable for the kids who prefer not to get in the tub (if they had their way..) 🫧 Introduce games like Fisheroo which not only provide a distraction, but can assist with imaginative play and help develop their hand eye coordination 🫧 Mirror bath toys are a great way to introduce young children to the concept of reflections. Our tip is using the mirror to create soapy hats, moustaches and faux-hawks 🫧 Foam wet and stick toys can be loads of fun - they can create entire cities on the wall, play dress-ups or build a farm! Nobody told me when I was getting my teacher degrees that ESY should be just as customized as the school year. My district had one version of a Summer program and parents were told they could “take it or leave it”. When I found out that ESY could/should be individualized for each student AND you don’t have to show regression to qualify… I started telling as many parents as I could. And I haven’t stopped. Along the way I found out most teachers and admins didn’t know what the law said about ESY - just like I didn’t in the beginning. It’s not too late to get ESY customized for this summer.
