Part of being an advocate for emotional health involves demonstrating that not only to others, but to our kids. A significant situation happened today that I was unprepared for, and so was my child. It required me to be calm, show love, compassion, and grace to my child - and, to be OKAY with the fact things didn’t turn out as we had planned. It required my child to show love, grace and compassion to HERSELF - and to be OKAY that things didn’t turn out as planned. In fact, she is 98% behind her own decision, even knowing she is ‘missing out’, and that tomorrow she might have an awkward conversation or two. So proud of her - and so thankful that those around her, her teachers and myself included, were able to support her when she desperately needed it. What do you do when you struggle with something? Do you allow that self compassion - or for others? It’s what God would do, in my opinion. The past will show up to see if you have grown into your true identity and learn about your patterns and habits and how you have been working on them. It doesn’t want you to fold and feel powerless to do anything about your life and messages it is sending you but wants you to take action. Not necessarily doing more but less of what doesn’t work for you before. One way to build your confidence is to regularly practice to make good decisions; this demands that you consider the risk and potential impacts that it will have on your life today and tomorrow. That means you will have to be intentional and aware of who you are and becoming so it can drive what you choose to do. To make good decisions you will have to look at the root cause of the bad decisions. You will also have to look at the actions you will have to take; again your who will drive your do, because you will have to take full accountability for the choices you made. To make better choices you will have to give yourself time - this where the past comes to help you to look at how you choose before and the results from it. The past is not always against you, it serves to help you to understand what needs to change and what can improve upon.
