"Edge of Tomorrow" (2014) Director: Doug Liman Cinematographer: Dion Beebe Production Design: Oliver Scholl Starring: Tom Cruise, Emily Blount, Brendan Gleeson Probably my favorite film of director Doug Liman's collection, Edge of Tomorrow is a thrilling war rendition of Groundhog Day, where Tom Cruise and team needs to complete a mission perfectly or the day resets. The suits worn in the film during the fighting scenes weighed over 100 pounds, which caused stunt teams to train for months. Tom Cruise and Emily Blount completed almost all of their stunts without a double. Another interesting thing to note about this film is that much of the script was actually completed during filming. It was reported that over 50 different versions of the ending were brainstormed before settling on the ending that made the final cut. GEMINI MAN (2019) Director - Ang Lee Writer - David Benioff, Billy Ray. Darren Lemke Cinematography - Dion Beebe Music - Lorne Balfe Cast - Will Smith, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, Benedict Wong An over-the-hill hitman faces off against a younger clone of himself. Gemini Man is a science fiction action thriller. I have mixed feelings toward this movie, I enjoyed seeing the performances, the stunt choreography and action sequences, the special and visual effects. However, not so much when it comes to the plot, the storyline and the CGI makeup on Will Smith's face. I noticed the film was nominated for worst film of the year and worst digital makeup, I wouldn't say this was the worst film of the year or the worst digital makeup. The movie definitely showed the advanced technology they have in the making of this film, but for me, personally, I'm not much of a fan when it comes to higher frame rate or motion smoothing, I even have it disabled on my television. I think the film would've looked just fine without the 120 fps. Though the CGI work was impressive, flaws and imperfections were noticeable on the younger Will Smith's character, Junior, especially during that one scene when the two was fighting surrounded by wall of skulls, Junior's fighting stance, choreography and the emotions on his face throughout the movie looked like he came out from a video game. There seems to be plot holes in the narrative, and the backstory on Henry and Junior, how the existence of Junior's character arc developed and grew that leads to his connection with the villain. Their dialogue and script could sound awkward or stiff at times too. The story just sounded like two identical characters with daddy issues and are figuring it out on their own. Strong performances all-around, I like how they didn't force romance on the two leads with opposite genders, Will Smith was solid, Winstead was impressive, doing her own stunts, Wong as a comedic relief was a delight. The action scene with the motorcycle chase was exciting, easily the best part of the film. Gemini Man was fairly entertaining, an enjoyable movie and I had a good time watching it. Overall, it was average. RATING: 5/10

I was reminded of the opening and closing scenes of one of my favourite films - Jane Campion’s, in my opinion, widely misunderstood and underrated 'In the Cut'. Memorie di una geisha, in tal senso, è uno dei risultati più apprezzabili, e ci riesce in buona parte grazie al confronto con l'Occidente che irrompe prepotentemente con le truppe statunitensi; è emblematico lo scarto culturale che porta gli americani a considerare le geishe delle prostitute, e l'accondiscendenza dei giapponesi che glielo lasciano credere, chi per sopravvivere e chi per opportunismo.
