With all the hype surrounding the release of โForever Reignโ, I couldnโt resist jumping at the chance to start โLong Liveโ. Going into this, I wasnโt really sure what to expect, but I definitely enjoyed it! It follows a group of immortals (with elemental magic) who have done some morally dubious things in their life, trying to save the world from the next big threatโฆ if they can figure out what it is on time, and protect their new human friend at the same time. The found family is strong with this one, with lots of sibling-style bickering. Each one of these characters is carrying trauma in one form or the other, and I was immediately hooked on the โdark godโ villain from the moment he appeared on the page. The only reason it wasnโt 5 stars for me was because it was quite slow at the beginning, and I wanted more of Islaโs POV than the rest of the elementals. But Iโm so happy to know they are finally happy and at peace. This romantasy has so much going for it: a fierce FMC, witty MMC, banter, enemies to lovers, no-spice romance, found family, and unique elemental magic! โจ What I love most about this book is the raw emotions that I feel with these characters! I was smiling, grieving, hurting, and laughing with them throughout the book, and I think an author who can make a reader do that is truly special. And this is not just with one character, but with multiple! The different struggles that the individual characters experience are so well brought to light and handled, especially their anxiety and grief! The banter between these character is also just the best! Jade and Rynn have the most humorous, bickering friendship now, Aidan and Kai are couple goals, and Annalise is so incredibly sharp. I especially loved seeing Aidan and Kaiโs relationship development. I was sucked in right from the beginning and always found myself wanting to know what would happen next. The pacing of this story was so good! ๐ I enjoyed following Isla's journey and growth throughout the book. She was such a fun main character, and I appreciated her determination not only to protect those dearest to her but also to stand up for her own autonomy and decisions. I loved the Elementals so much! I love a story where powerful, god-like beings grapple with morality, immortality, and also have completely relatable human complexes to sort out. The BANTER between these characters and Isla was *chef's kiss* ๐ฅ It will shock no one that my favorite character was the villain. ๐ If you're looking for a reason to pick up this book, look no further than The Dark God. I could list all the ways I love him, but instead, I'll leave a little quote for you: ๐ค โI assure you, this is very real.โ He spun her to face him and smiled wickedly, his fingers wrapping around her forearm as he lifted it to his lips. Book Review ๐ โจLong Live by V. B. Lacey โจ Where to start with this one! I was absolutely hooked from the first page- the prologue gave Galadrielโs-opening-lines-from-Fellowship vibes and I got *goosebumps*. I literally read the entire passage out loud to my husband. From there it only got better. There were multiple POVโs and I loved every single one of them. There wasnโt a single character I was โbummedโ to see at the start of a chapter. I absolutely loved Isla, the FMC. She was fierce, independent, and resilient. The rest of the ensemble was equally as dynamic. The elemental powers were so unique and beautifully written as a part of each of their personality. The imagery was vivid and lush and the plot was engaging and kept me curious throughout. I also loved the commentary on humanity through the eyes of immortality. This is a no spice book, but it has plenty of swoon worth declarations of love. If you love epic fantasy with easy to fall into world building and elemental magic, this could be your new favorite! Happy reading! ๐ Long Live ๐ With Book two of The Elementals of Iona duology releasing yesterday and my utter inability to do things in order, I thought I'd do my "review" of Long Live by @vblacey.books today! I say "review" because I am an emotional reader, so my score system is mostly "did I squeal? Did it make me feel what it was supposed to? Great! 5 stars!" Which leaves me with a lot of 5-star reads, of which, Long Live is one ๐ Whilst it did end on a cliffhanger, I was lucky enough to be on the arc team for Forever Reign, so it, thankfully, wasn't quite a cliffhanger for me. It set up the whole world and all the characters so well. That feisty group is still my favourite, maybe even of all time. Itโs been three months and everyone is still coming to grips with the events on Iona. Thereโs a lot for each of our main characters to work through- guilt, loss, grief, betrayal, and so much more. But one thing is certain, they must put their differences aside and work together once again to restore the balance that was shattered not long ago. But who can they trust? And can they forgive past indiscretions enough to move forward in a world full of uncertainty and instability?! I adored every minute of this book. These character hold a special place in my heart, especially our broody dark god. My heart hurt every time we got his POV as he was forced to face his past and remain hopeful for a future he isnโt convinced he deserves. Every scene between him and Isla had me begging for more! ARC Review Forever Reign by @vblacey.books Release Date: April 23, 2024 Synopsis in comments. Forever Reign is the conclusion to the Elementals of Iona duology, and it starts a few months after Long Live ended. Isla is missing (maybe dead, who knows?!?), Sebastian is trying to fix all the problems done to his kingdom when he was the Dark God, and the Elementals are learning to live as mortals. I enjoyed the storyline; how each character fit into the story, the world building, and the magic. I loved many of the charactersโI would read an entire story of just Kai and Aidenโs love story. Iโฆ.will say that my favorite male love interest was still Rynn. Heโs just so grumpy and broody, literally my kryptonite. While Sebastian was swoony and had the best dialogue, heโs still the runner-up in my heart. When I first read Long Live, I was just a baby fantasy reader. Well, Iโm still kind of a baby fantasy reader, although Iโve got a few more books under my belt by now. That being said, I still struggled with the pacing. I felt like I was waiting for somethingโanything!โto happen for large chunks of the book. The ending was satisfying though, and I liked getting insight into all of their futures. ARC review ๐๐๐๐ This book was incredibly sweet. I loved the playful banter, the sense of family and strength found together through difficult times, the twists, turns and trials faced. The developing love in Forever reign was beautiful, both the romantic relationships and friendships that blossomed. Unsurprisingly I shed a few tears as the characters learnt to navigate their past traumas and fears and grew into themselves and found myself holding my breath during the insanity at the end wondering what would happen. I am so incredibly grateful to have been sent an ARC copy of forever Reign. Did I not want to eat dinner because of the hold this book had on me? Yes. Did I stay up until 2 am to finish this book? Yes. I could go on and on about the things I did or didnโt do to finish this book. The grip it has on me is just insane. My habit of biting my nails almost came back in full force because I was so nervous of what was going on. I am in love with this book & this duology! Omg so in love with ALL of the characters. Thereโs not one that I didnโt like. Yes even the villains were so good. The growth of each of the characters was so well done I was rooting for them all. How can I choose a favorite? I canโtโฆ *cough*itโs Sebastian*cough*. What? So swoony ๐ซ . I think I also fell more in love with Kai & Aiden in this one. Really though I loved them all. What an amazing sequel and overall fantastic duology. I loved all the different storylines going on with the multi POV. The found family in this is unmatched and the romance is just *chefโs kiss*. I love each couple and Sebastian is officially my new book boyfriend. This series has such a fantastic use of the elemental magic trope. The plot twists caught me by surprise which I loved.
