Like with Long Live (The first book of the duology) I really loved the magic system and the world building around it. It is more political than Long Live and it was a good way to make the story progress. I really liked how the multiple pov gave more depth to the characters (which is also common with LL). I also liked their dynamics how they all have different personalities and how they interact together in that regard. The characters struggles and growth were very relatable. How they tried to move on from their grief (and ptsd), how they felt, their fears, etc its was so realistic (I felt like VB Lacey was pointing out my feelings and struggles). The story between Sebastian and Isla progress naturally in a swoony slow burn romance with witty banter, I really love their exchange in this book, they were so honest with themselves and with one another it was beautiful. Book Review 📚 ✨Long Live by V. B. Lacey ✨ Where to start with this one! I was absolutely hooked from the first page- the prologue gave Galadriel’s-opening-lines-from-Fellowship vibes and I got *goosebumps*. I literally read the entire passage out loud to my husband. From there it only got better. There were multiple POV’s and I loved every single one of them. There wasn’t a single character I was “bummed” to see at the start of a chapter. I absolutely loved Isla, the FMC. She was fierce, independent, and resilient. The rest of the ensemble was equally as dynamic. The elemental powers were so unique and beautifully written as a part of each of their personality. The imagery was vivid and lush and the plot was engaging and kept me curious throughout. I also loved the commentary on humanity through the eyes of immortality. This is a no spice book, but it has plenty of swoon worth declarations of love. If you love epic fantasy with easy to fall into world building and elemental magic, this could be your new favorite! Happy reading! 📚 Long Live 📚 With Book two of The Elementals of Iona duology releasing yesterday and my utter inability to do things in order, I thought I'd do my "review" of Long Live by @vblacey.books today! I say "review" because I am an emotional reader, so my score system is mostly "did I squeal? Did it make me feel what it was supposed to? Great! 5 stars!" Which leaves me with a lot of 5-star reads, of which, Long Live is one 😂 Whilst it did end on a cliffhanger, I was lucky enough to be on the arc team for Forever Reign, so it, thankfully, wasn't quite a cliffhanger for me. It set up the whole world and all the characters so well. That feisty group is still my favourite, maybe even of all time. I know it's been out for a while now, but I hate reviews or posts with spoilers, so I tend to be vague, and I am sorry about that, but it's how I roll! ✨Forever Reign Release Day and ARC review ✨ Today is the day! The Elementals of Iona Duology is now complete with the release of Forever Reign! And trust me, you’ll want to pick this one up ASAP! It’s been three months and everyone is still coming to grips with the events on Iona. There’s a lot for each of our main characters to work through- guilt, loss, grief, betrayal, and so much more. But one thing is certain, they must put their differences aside and work together once again to restore the balance that was shattered not long ago. But who can they trust? And can they forgive past indiscretions enough to move forward in a world full of uncertainty and instability?! I adored every minute of this book. These character hold a special place in my heart, especially our broody dark god. My heart hurt every time we got his POV as he was forced to face his past and remain hopeful for a future he isn’t convinced he deserves. Every scene between him and Isla had me begging for more! ARC Review Forever Reign by @vblacey.books Release Date: April 23, 2024 Synopsis in comments. Forever Reign is the conclusion to the Elementals of Iona duology, and it starts a few months after Long Live ended. Isla is missing (maybe dead, who knows?!?), Sebastian is trying to fix all the problems done to his kingdom when he was the Dark God, and the Elementals are learning to live as mortals. I enjoyed the storyline; how each character fit into the story, the world building, and the magic. I loved many of the characters—I would read an entire story of just Kai and Aiden’s love story. I….will say that my favorite male love interest was still Rynn. He’s just so grumpy and broody, literally my kryptonite. While Sebastian was swoony and had the best dialogue, he’s still the runner-up in my heart. When I first read Long Live, I was just a baby fantasy reader. Well, I’m still kind of a baby fantasy reader, although I’ve got a few more books under my belt by now. That being said, I still struggled with the pacing. I felt like I was waiting for something—anything!—to happen for large chunks of the book. The ending was satisfying though, and I liked getting insight into all of their futures. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more from V.B. Lacey. QOTD: do you have any tips for annotation? ARC review 🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book was incredibly sweet. I loved the playful banter, the sense of family and strength found together through difficult times, the twists, turns and trials faced. The developing love in Forever reign was beautiful, both the romantic relationships and friendships that blossomed. Unsurprisingly I shed a few tears as the characters learnt to navigate their past traumas and fears and grew into themselves and found myself holding my breath during the insanity at the end wondering what would happen. I am so incredibly grateful to have been sent an ARC copy of forever Reign. As soon as I finished Long live the first book in the Elementals of Iona duology I knew I'd be diving right in after that cliff hanger. SYNOPSIS. 🔥💨💦🌳 Nothing could have prepared Sebastian and the elementals for what occurred on the beaches of Iona three months ago. In the aftermath of loss and betrayal, they’re left to pick up the shattered pieces of their lives, recovering in their separate corners of the world. That is, until the long-lost kingdom invites them back to their shores for a festival of peace. Isolated to the spirit plane, Isla Vasileia has received a quest from the ancient gods. Ever since Isla took the magic from the elementals, the balance of nature has been greatly altered. I felt like every chapter ended on a cliffhanger and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This was an absolutely captivating story written in the most beautiful way. The ending of Long Live left me just as shattered as our characters, so I was eager to revisit this world and find out what happened. I thought this second book was well written and well paced – I could hardly put it down. Being back on Iona, we learn much more about this mysterious land. We also see more from the other monarchs and meet some exciting new characters. This book also had some excellent character development, especially among the Elementals. Being without their elements, they have had to navigate who they are at their core, and what kind of life they want to lead as mortals. Like Book 1, this book is told from multiple POVs, so we really get a sense of each character and their personalities. I especially loved Sebastian’s chapters – I love him and he must be protected at all costs! He had a great character arc, and we really see him shining in this book. Isla is our self-sacrificing heroine, and while this part of her personality did not change, she is learning to accept help and all the love coming her way, and what it means for her to be happy. The romance was also wonderful! This is a no-spice series, but don’t let that sway you – there is still plenty of romance, tension, and longing, and it just makes me kick my feet when reading it. I just loved this unique fantasy series, and I am quite happy with how book two wrapped things up for all our characters. Thank you so much to V.B. 📖 ARC Book Review 📖 What a wonderful conclusion to The Elementals of Iona duology by V. B. Lacey. Forever Reign was such an amazing book, and I absolutely loved reading about these characters again, especially after the ending of Long Live (book 1). Without giving too much away, Forever Reign commenced approximately several months after the ending of Long Live, and it was great to see how some characters have adapted to their ‘new’ lives. Kai and Aidan’s storyline was one of my favourites, and I loved seeing the continued growth of Isla. It was empowering to see Isla put herself first, and focus on understanding her feelings before completely jumping into anything with Sebastian. I binged this book until late into the night (or early into the morning), and couldn’t put it down. It made me smile, laugh, gasp, and there may have even been a tear or two (🫣). While I didn’t want to say goodbye to the incredible world that V. B. Lacey had created, it was such a perfect ending. If you love ✨ found family ✨ elemental magic ✨ he falls first ✨ witty banter ✨ no-spice romance then definitely read Forever Reign (and Long Live)! While it is a “no spice” romance, the flirty banter and the intensity of the relationships in this book still had me kicking my feet and swooning (much like everyone’s best best friend, Bri). I’m hard pressed to think of a book where love is described as being just so…effortless? The love in this book is unconditional. It’s not forced, it’s earned. It’s careful but consuming. Romantic, friendly and familial - it all just feels so natural. All thoughts and comments are my own." Forever Reign is book 2 in The Elementals of Iona duology. It is a spectacular follow-up to Long Live! It is full of political intrigue, character development, elemental magic, romance, and sacrifice. This duology has to read in order. Proceed with caution, because the following has spoilers for Long Live. What a fabulous conclusion to The Elementals of Iona! Forever Reign is more character driven than Long Live. Lacey takes the time to explore how all of the characters have been affected by the events on the beach, and what it means for their future. I loved the time spent with all of the characters, and the focus on several platonic friendships. Jade and Rynn's banter is fantastic, and Annalise's quick wit always made me smile. Isla and Sebastian's connection is explored slowly, and is a feet kicking, butterfly inducing good time. The peak we got of him in Long Live is nothing compared to the man in Forever Reign. I was grateful to have his POV included. It was an asset in shaping the story. Kai and Aiden continue to be ultimate couple goals. Their love and humor is beautiful to see. Jade and Rynn...what a hilarious pairing. I didn't know I needed their banter and evolving friendship. They were a highlight for sure. What Lacey does so well is craft very distinct relationships (romantic and platonic) that each feel unique and special. Lacey has created a fantastic duology full of my favorite things! Mystery, elemental magic, romance, humor, and found family. It has a little something for everyone. Highly recommend both books in this series, Long Live and Forever Reign! Book Review 📖 Forever Reign ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ These characters and stories will forever reign in my heart! After taking the elementals power, along with the Aether’s power, Isla finds herself in the spirit realm. However, Sebastian and the former elementals have no idea where she is or if she is even still alive. Three months later, Isla unconsciously appears to Sebastian, and sets in motion the mission the Primeval gods have destined her for. However, the rulers of Iona, former home to the elementals, suddenly want to form alliances with other kingdoms, and soon Isla, Sebastian, and the others discover that the threat they faced on the beach of Iona 3 months prior may not be gone. And that their lives will be forever changed. This story had me gripping pages (mentally) and crying tears of loss and heartbreak and happiness. Isla and Sebastian’s relationship was so achingly beautiful and inspiring. The patience and care Sebastian gives to Isla to allow her to truly understand and realize her own feelings for him and their relationship was a breath of fresh air! Regardless of his own feelings and love for her, he loved her so much that he would have waited for all of eternity to be with her. I was so happy to see that Rynn learned from his past mistakes and I loved that he not only got a redemption story but also found his happily ever after. Long Live is everything I want in a fantasy - a badass and confident FMC, magic, hidden destiny, an absolute treasure trove of fully formed characters, adventures with best friends, witty banter. And an actual, legitimate quest?! Be still my beating heart. No notes, no improvements. I am so appreciative of the world that VB created in this book - a mix of magic with mundane, adventure with the tedium of everyday life. I love that every character has flaws and strengths as well, some more carefully curated than others but nonetheless there. The introduction of elemental beings is such an interesting concept and it was fascinating to see how those elements were personified in the characters’ choices throughout the book. We all know I’m a softy for a morally grey MMC, so it comes to literally no one’s surprise that Sebastian was my favorite character. No one is shocked, least of all me. But let me just say, a FMC who puts a man in his place and doesn’t let him control her?? More of this please, I couldn’t get enough. Isla was a very very close runner up for my favorite character. All in all, Long Live had me gasping, squealing and giggling like a little girl while also clutching my chest, holding my breath and hoping that these characters, some of the most lovable I’ve read in a long time as a whole, pull through. Being without their elements, they have had to navigate who they are at their core, and what kind of life they want to lead as mortals. Like Book 1, this book is told from multiple POVs, so we really get a sense of each character and their personalities. I especially loved Sebastian’s chapters – I love him and he must be protected at all costs! He had a great character arc, and we really see him shining in this book. Isla is our self-sacrificing heroine, and while this part of her personality did not change, she is learning to accept help and all the love coming her way, and what it means for her to be happy. The romance was also wonderful! This is a no-spice series, but don’t let that deter you – there is still plenty of romance, tension, and longing, and it just makes me kick my feet when reading it! I just loved this unique fantasy series, and I am quite happy with how book two wrapped things up for all our characters. Thank you so much to V.B. Lacey for the eARC of this book!
