Loved this book! It's been a hot minute since I read book 1 so I was lost for a brief moment at the beginning but it took me no time to remember and jump right back in! This book!! It had so much of what I love,strong female character that may need to save the big strong demon.. banter, spice, great story, great main and side characters.. just everything.. I'd go with a 4.5 because I liked it a bit more than book 1 which I rated 4 but it can't have 5 because it couldn't hold my attention.. It was a great book and I enjoyed reading it and I'll remember it for quite a while and I'm so looking forward to starting book 3.. I don't really have a whole lot to say about this book.. it was picked for bookclub. The cover was beautiful and I loved the premise of the book.. dark academia, said enemies to Lovers (though I don't really feel it was), and I really liked how ava handled some heavy topics that women deal with often. Effy...my heart felt for her, it really did but I felt she didn't have much development other than right at the end we were thrown a bone but at that point it was too late. This book has great reviews and I can absolutely see why, the writing was beautifully done however the story just didn't do it for me, I feel it needed more growth of characters for sure. 📚WEEKLY RECAP📚 5/13-5/19 Where the Dark Stands Still by AB Poranek 3.75⭐ This book feels like a Beauty & the Beast retelling (though the author has said that’s coincidental). I loved the atmosphere – the crumbling manor and sentient forest. There were some pacing issues and the dialogue was a bit 🥴, but overall I enjoyed what felt like a dark fairytale. The Connellys of County Down by Tracey Lange 4.5⭐ When Tara is released from prison, she moves in with her brother and sister. This is a book about messy family dynamics and beneath it all – love & loyalty. Someone had said this book reminded them of the TV show Shameless, and that’s pretty accurate. Real Americans by Rachel Khong 4⭐ A multi-generational story about intentions, forgiveness, and what we owe family. I found the first two sections of this book enthralling and immersive, but the third section didn’t really work for me. Still, a thought-provoking read with interesting characters. Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell 4.25⭐ In a moment of weakness after her husband abruptly leaves her for another woman, Caroline has a one night stand. However, her paramour becomes obsessed and begins stalking her. Told from dual POVs – Caroline’s and her stalker’s – you don’t know who’s telling the truth. Tho the ending was just okay, the book overall was so tense and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland 3⭐ Five killers unite in a quest to assassinate the god-king and steal the throne. Ugh I was so disappointed in this one. It reads very young though it’s not YA. I thought this would be a fun, action-packed quest, but nothing happened for the first 300 pages except the characters lusting after one another (though there is no spice). This week was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, two of my best friends got married (on different continents!), one of my other best friends graduated with her masters degree and I got to see a friend at the wedding I hadn’t seen in years so it was so emotional and happy but also a very long week! I didn’t have as much time to read but that is totally okay, it took a back burner the later half of this week with everything going on. What I did read this week though I really enjoyed, especially Yours Truly and Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez, they were absolutely fantastic!! I also read more of the Lost and Found series by Catherine Cowles which were as gut wrenching but beautiful as Ashes of You! I finally read The Long Game and I enjoyed it but it was not my favorite Elena Armas book, that still goes to The Spanish Love Deception! Finally this week I read my first Lena Hendrix novel - One Look which was so much fun, I really enjoyed it and I definitely have more of her books added to my never ending tbr! I-am oferit 5 steluțe bine meritate.❤️ Despre ce este vorba? ⤵️ Avem un romantasy young adult, cu puțină comedie și foarte multe aventuri. Așa cum ne indică și titlul, protagonistele sunt surori gemene separate la naștere. Rose este prințesa mostenitoare a tronului, cunoscută în popor ca ultima rămasă din neamul ei, singura care poate conduce tărâmul Enea. Wren este o vrăjitoare crescută în secret de către bunica ei cu un singur obiectiv: să ia locul lui Rose, să fure coroana și să răzbune moartea părinților lor. Cele două fete au bineînțeles personalități complet opuse și caractere puternice (care se dovedesc a fi la fel de încăpățânate). Povestea seamănă cu un basm, un film Disney sau Barbie (Princess and the Pauper). Are acea inocență cu care eram obișnuiți pe vremuri, când eram copii. Vă spun sincer nu am mai citit de ceva timp o poveste atât de magică, poate chiar de anul trecut de la seriile ”Caraval” și ”A Fost Odată o Inimă Frântă”. Sistemul de magie m-a dus cu gândul la universul grisha, iar gemenele vrăjitoare mi-au amintit de filmul Twitches. Per total, mi-a venit ușor să mă las pierdută complet în lumea fantastică. Ce mi-a plăcut? (Mai specific decât ”aproape tot”) • Am adoraaat faptul că avem capitole scurte, cu perspectivele lui Wren și Rose alternând. • Aproape fiecare capitol se încheie cu un mic (sau mare) plot twist, element care mi-a menținut atenția și care m-a făcut să nu pot lăsa cartea din mână. • Chiar și când destinul le-a găsit împreună, s-a păstrat același stil alert și aventuros. • A fost distractivă! Mi-a reamintit motivul pentru care iubesc să citesc: să evadez în lumi fantastice și să mă simt bine făcând asta. • Surorile gemene, deși nu se cunoșteau, au arătat grijă și dragoste una față de celălaltă. • Mi-a plăcut și partea de romance, care a fost introdusă treptat pentru ambele protagoniste. Un slow burn lent și dureros, presărat cu enemies-to-lovers și forced proximity. • A fost o lectură captivantă! A reading for the week of May 20th-26th, 2024. . Whew, this set of cards packs a punch! The Tower and Death in the same reading, plus the Four of Coins. The Tower and Death both represent change. Life-altering, foundation rocking, complete and utter change. They also both represent loss and/or sacrifice. This change is not going to be easy, and it will hurt. That’s the bad news. . The good news is that both of these cards come around when we need to change and have been trying to avoid it. The fall may be painful, but it’s necessary to help us grow into who we’re meant to be. If we kept living our lives the way we always had, we would miss out on growing into our purpose and path. .
