April has been fun. Currently I'm working on restocking items for @aglowapothecary, requests and shop items. Busy busy . I'm also a mom to 2 special ladies, Work part time, a bomb wife etc.... 🌈 Looking back at April being #autism Awareness month, I wish I posted more about it. We live it daily and hey a little knowledge is always good to spread. 💙 It's a huge part of our lives and inspires my art/ business too. I was a little down about not posting but who said the deadline is tomorrow ? Silly me..... So slide to see some cute info graphics I found. 🎓 I love how the spectrum is depicted. Ours are on "opposite ends " of it but in reality , they have different needs, strenghts and differences. We parent differently too because of this. We try to be understanding and patient knowing their brains are firing all the time. And yes sometimes, we are looked at funny, comments made and our kids treated differently or left out. We adjust things for them too. It's the reality of #asdparents sometimes because of a lack of awareness around us too. 🙃 💗 On the other end, we have more support and love around us by people who respect us and our kids. It touches my heart when their space is respected, people are patient with them and don't get offended when my kids don't react they way they respect. I see you. I love that. As an observant person, I don't forget that ♡ ❤️ So yes....our lives are busy busy over here. But I have a great husband who helps too. We're are the dream team. Still over here with a few meals the girls will eat 👋🏻😄it's a difficult one, would I like them to eat a more varied diet, yes. Would I like them to eat more fruit and vegetables?, also yes. However are they eating?, yes. Are they healthy? I would say also yes.  Ava chooses to have school dinners even after giving her the option of packed lunch, this is massive! She pushes herself out of her comfort during the week so will always have food she is comfortable with at home. Lilah probably has the most restricted diet, I'm hoping when she starts reception and tries school dinners with her friends it will open up more foods for her. Are your children more likely to eat and try foods with their friends? I definitely feel this is the case for Ava.

As most of you know our house is very unusual, not just because to neurodiversity but also due our multicultural background. Theo walked into the kitchen last night and saw green peas on the stove. In the 14 years of marriage Svetlana has NEVER cooked green peas for a side dish. Needless to say Theo was thrown in a HUGE LOOP and couldn't understand not only why they were being cooked but also why Svetlana decided to cook them. The whole evening Theo was questioning Svetlana about them and is still "suspicious" about their arrival. Getting into the meat & potatoes of my Terminator set. Definitely need some better brushes and some finer tips. I’ve tried my hand at some box shading with bases and building up layers to highlights, I think one turned out really well compared to the rest, also tried some wear effects on the scabbards. At this point it’s all about Learning better brush control and slowly training my eyes to focus on the smaller details without burning out. All in all these are taking the longest to do. When I started 3 weeks ago I thought it was good to zone in and smash a unit out in a night, but I’m realising the satisfaction of drawing the project out, prolonging the release of pigmentum Endorphin’s. Saying no.💞 I'd be really interested in finding out how other families handle this. I feel as a parent it's our job to make sure that our kids are taught within the capabilities that they have...that no means no , and that they have boundaries. I was on another forum where the topic was about a child demanding to know from the adults what was being discussed ..in what was a private conversation between two adults. the majority said ..' oh no she should be told because she needs to know to regulate ? Mmm...is this really true ? I can imagine that we know the things that we MUST put in place for kids to get through the day..but I'm not accepting that means everything. Amelia would argue all day till the cows come home if she wants something , and if I said no, she does her very best to manipulate the conversation to her own advantage. We have struggled with our approach as I feel that having ASD means that we have to approach the subject differently and in a way she can understand...rather than not approach it at all and give her her own way. Does that make me wrong ? ASD children still need to have firm clear boundaries, because although Amelia is autistic..she also is a 9 year old child who needs guidance and rules , just the same as her peers.. albeit with a different approach she will be able to comprehend. I feel if there is a privacy boundary..it's really important for them to understand that it means they have to respect it. It also gives them the same knowledge when the situations are reversed. High functioning AUTISM IS STILL AUTISM!🧩 -This is just one example of the BS that people don't understand about kids with ASD. It's a SPECTRUM because he DOESN'T ACT OR LOOK AUTISTIC he's fine! This is WHY AUTISM AWARENESS is NECESSARY to educate others.🧩 The director of special education director is an absolute joke & that's much nicer than what I told him. 🤡I have been very nice, respectful, very persistent and I have listened to everyone's input and opinions, but NO ONE wants to listen to me and they wouldn't let Bryler attend the last meeting when he requested to be there and it is his RIGHT. I have been on their ass since last fall when this all started getting really bad for my son . A year later there's no progress but there is regression in all aspects of his life. He's thrown his hands up and is in the screw it stage and I don't blame him. **He told me I never give up on him when everyone else does. They say they care about me but they don't. Two weeks before TCAP state testing his teacher is very concerned about his handwriting, capabilities and scores. It's a little late for that! 😡 Now, because he's not where he needs to be academically oh and don't forget emotionally, socially and mentally -but that doesn't effect him academicly.🤣he has to spend half of his summer in summer school so he can get to where he needs to be for 4th grade. He's going to struggle right off the bat bc of the skills he's lacking now . But no one listens to him or his mother! The state denied the admin complaint finalized by my attorney,backed up with 200 pages of documents. The state denied my claim based off of what ORS/director of special education SAID . I have requested a copy of the documents that the state used to determine their final decision. I'll hear from someone in 45 days. I confirmed via email with the admin staff that the responses from ORS were wrong. It's in BLACK AND WHITE. Why am I battling the school for them to just provide accommodations for my kid. Thank the lord it’s Saturday! What a week it’s been. We’ve only made it into school 2 days and those days were tough! On the days off we focused on his feelings and helped support the way he deals with his emotions by exploring what he was good at, his qualities and celebrated his achievements! Nothing can ever stop us from pushing forward. I really do have the best friends around me, they don’t pretend to know what’s happening with me and they can’t pretend to relate! It can be lonely sometimes and without their check ins and messages I think I would go insane. It’s hard to navigate this SEND world,it’s not fun at times and it’s actually soul destroying -I’m not saying it’s easy- but staying positive is actually the only way it’s easier for me.
