What if I don’t reach my goal? Something that has definitely crossed my mind more than once over the last few weeks as I work towards my goal of performing a straddle lever to handstand before the end of 2023. 1 week to go and I’m getting closer. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like it and that’s when tracking and recording progress really comes into play. You can see my starting point and my progress up until last week. Without that visual I would feel like I’m still at square one. I have one week left and I will focus all of my efforts on being able to do this move. But if I don’t get it… I won’t stop. I’ll carry on until I achieve it. And that’s the most important thing I want to communicate with you. Just because you feel like you can’t do something doesn’t mean that you stop. Just because you don’t achieve your goal in the time frame doesn’t mean you should stop. If you want and value something enough you will commit and keep going until you succeed. Bend your elbows, and position one hand on either side of your head. Lift your feet off the ground so that your knees and waist make a 90-degree angle. Bring your left knee up towards your chest, straightening your right leg out in front of you.  Rotate your right shoulder to bring your right elbow towards your left knee as you do this. Yesterday’s reps: ➡️ Pause rep pull ups x 3 sets. I really like controlling the eccentric portion of this movement. The combination of pausing at the top followed by lowering with a slower tempo really hits that time under tension. Additionally, one of my objectives in training is to learn continually better body control. I feel the pause and slower tempo on these pull ups is conducive to this objective. ➡️ Single ring ring chin ups x 3 sets. The range of motion feels super long on these…especially if you have long arms like me! ➡️ One arm ring rows x 3 sets. These are a definite favorite of mine right now. Rows are so underrated. Don’t sleep on rows! ➡️ Ring curls x 3 sets. Adding in ring curls and triceps extensions is relatively new for me. I actually like the isolation work. Not perfect but definitely improving. 💪 Some may wonder why would you want to learn a handstand? Well for starters i think all exercises upside down are nice to do and i want to master it. But there are definitely benefits added to doing handstands. Such as: Improving your balance, Working your core muscles, It increases bone density, You'll be engaging all the muscles of your body. Mostly the: core muscle but also the spinal muscles, delts, rhomboids etc etc. Even studies have shown that it increases circulation in your body! And some also have shown that it may delay Alzheimer's disease. 😨 Have trouble with your wrists while trying a handstand? You can use paralettes to ease the strain on your wrists. And ofcourse warm up your wrists before doing your handstand training. New progression unlocked 🔓 Straddle half-lay planche is definitely a hold I can quickly improve on. Still need to figure out the best way to get into it, but I’m excited that I am able to get a solid hold. The attempt was after my 150x5 OHP so my shoulders were already quite fatigued. Hopefully I can get straddle by end of the semester. If I grind I think it is definitely doable. @trainwithjwang you should def try this out. . .
