TRAVELLING WITH KIDS ✈︎👨👩👧👦 *disclaimer we have had some awful flights 😅 butttt this is what we try to do 🙏 TIRE THEM OUT AT AIRPORT - burn off all that energy so they will be more willing to stay seated during the flight A BABY CARRIER - an absolute must if you have a young one as you can be hands free - can be long queues at passport control and you likely won’t get your pram back until baggage reclaim TOYS - new toys (can stagger these throughout travel/holiday) - favourite toys - suction toys / spinning toys - play doh - reusable sticker book, water pens… anything to entertain them - hanging wash bag worked as a great toy bag meaning it could hang on chair infront with lots of different compartments to explore 🤩 IPAD AND SNACKS - yes we would all love to reduce screen time but needs must 😅 - you can take as many snacks/baby food as you want through security so load up (when you think you’ve packed enough… pack more!!) Taking flights with a toddler…. Aria did so well on both of the flights to and from America, we did a day flight there and a night flight back. We took loads of snacks and her @jetkidscom case full of mess free activities that kept her entertained. We were lucky that we were seated around people who were child friendly because trust me we’ve had some bad experiences with other people previously! We’ve done a few flights now and my top tips are: • if possible time flight with naps, • take loads of snacks, food in my opinion is never the best, • Pack mess free activities and new toys that are exciting to them, • Try to go with the flow and follow their lead, • remember it’s a very short portion of the holiday and even if it’s a nightmare the reality is ‘most’ people have been in your shoes and are not judging as hard as you think they are!

Pipe cleaners. Pipe cleaners through straws. Straws to blow puff balls. Puff balls to stuff into a small Dasani water bottle. Puff balls to throw into the airplane cup. Straws to make texture with playdough Playdough with a few small animals and cut-outs. Straws to stick into airplane ice with the hole. Small set of stamps with paper. Stickers to put on paper, face and clothes Sock-puppets with their sock. Color-wow. Built in water color page. Color wonder markers. 1,000 songs and a few lollipops. Fruit snacks always buy us 5 minutes with the which-hand-is-it-in-game. Anndddd…we’re off to Spain!! One of my greatest values is modeling to my kids that life is a great adventure with Jesus, whether in our day to day routine OR on big trips like this one! Adventure is a family value for us 🤍✨ And while the journey has been far from perfect (ie: crying kids, little sleep, and a missed flight), as we were literally RACING through the Zürich airport desperately trying to catch our flight (up escalators, down elevators, through customs…) the kids were giggling and having the time of their lives! We all kept screaming “family adventure!!” 😂 When we got to the gate and realized we missed the plane by 1 minute (it was pulling out…😭) we told the kids that the thing about adventures is that you never know how they will unfold. So we asked if they wanted to go “exploring” while we waited, and lo and behold we found a playground that came in clutch! 😅 So as I write we are stranded in the Zürich airport waiting to get on a new flight to Spain! All for the adventure, eh?!? 😉 hopefully next time I write we’ll be staying at our farmhouse hotel!!! 🙏 🤞 But, the silver lining is that there have been so many beautiful blessings already…particularly the amazing woman who sat next to Avie on the long flight and helped her with everything! 🤔How-To Tuesday: Flying With A Lap Child🤔 Happy Tuesday! Today we wanted to give you some information on a question we were asked about this week…how to fly with small children that don’t require a ticket. If you have a child less than 2 years old they can fly for free on domestic flights as a lap child (exactly as it sounds…the child sits on your lap for the flight) and for a reduced fare on international flights. Things to keep in mind: ✈️The child has to be <2 years old. If the child turns 2 while on your trip they will need their own seat on the return flight. ✈️An infant as a lap child is much easier to take than an almost 2 year old. 2 year olds are obviously a lot more mobile! We would always want to save on the child’s ticket but be prepared for a wiggle worm if they are mobile and have things to keep them entertained…and all the snacks.🙌🏼 ✈️Whether they are a lap child or not and your child has their own seat and is normally in a car seat…bring the car seat on the plane! We cannot recommend this enough. If they are used to it we have found they travel much better in one and are more likely to sleep and it also keeps them safe in their seat. Just make sure the car seat is approved for flights and we also recommend one that is lightweight due to having to carry it through the airport and on and off airplanes. Carnarvon | Yinggarda Country, WA Part 2 Carnarvon Airport Once again Garry and the crew at Coral Coast Tourist Park helped us out and took us to the airport to catch our flight. This required 2 staff cars and a whole lot of helping hands and we are forever grateful. But...we didn't have proper luggage. After flying back to Melbourne in June,we decided when we left Kalbarri, to donate the suitcases we bought. These were full of stuff the kids didn't use anymore. We had the fun job of packing into Ikea storage boxes, covered in plastic chequered bags and stickytaped for security... what a time 😳 Carnarvon Airport was so interesting for the kids to see the whole process of security and baggage handling to flight processes at a very close level. The boys enjoyed the company of someone's pet birds for transport, and got to watch the plane land. They saw the plane get unloaded and then watched our luggage get loaded on. The small number of staff seemed to do every step! The little @rex.airlines plane was so tiny Sam couldn't stand up, but we had an easy smooth ride to Perth. But the principles are the same for any kind of trip so here’s my take. 🌟We gotta go easy, be flexible and enjoy the small moments making most of your family time together, with less pressure on doing lots of stuff. ( big learning for Go Getter me!) 🌟My main tip is as parents travelling with little ones: Get Real!! - lower your expectations don’t plan the same jam-packed itinerary we had pre-kids. Here’s my 3 top tips for your holiday plan with toddlers: 1. Take lots of breaks in the day for everyone to catch their breath and re energise for the next part of the day. 😴 2. Vary the kids activities between pool/ park/ play time so they don’t over tire with one thing. 🏊♀️ Be flexible if you need to change the plan to better suit moods! 3. WHAT TO TAKE ALONG TO MAKE AIRPORT TRAVEL EASIER WITH KIDS 🧳 ✈️ As we enter holiday season for many (not us in Turkiye!), you may be wondering what to carry on with you to transport kids during travel. At the airport we need to shuffle kids around between check in desks and boarding gates, and if the airport is large there’s alot of walking 🚶♂️ time. When kids get too tired to walk all the way, and yet they’re too big for us to carry around - so what are the solutions? For the last few trips (kids roughly 3-6 years), for airport runs we’ve travelled with : 1. Babyzen Yo-yo stroller (+ back seat attachment occasionally) 2. Tip #4: flight necessities. A change of clothes for you and the children- we always forget about the parents (but if you have gotten puked on during a flight, you will know the importance of a change for the adult). I always bring diapers, wipes and food but also MEDICATION. Kids can get sick mid flight- Tylenol is a life saver! Also something for them to suck on during take off and landing- pacifier, bottle, sippy cup, if they are old enough for a lollipop… whatever works! We’re on the countdown to our big trip to New Zealand! ✈️ B starts school next year and taking long holidays will be much harder, so we decided to take this opportunity to spend some of our winter in the New Zealand summer…2.5 months of it 😱. The biggest issue being fitting Christmas presents for the boys and birthday presents for B 😵💫. Last time we took this long of a flight we had a 3 month old. After a loooong day of travel, we’re back in the forest where we belong!🌲 We left Iguazu this morning in the middle of a flash thunder storm and 90 degree weather and arrived in Bariloche tonight to 35 degree weather and fresh snow on the ground. Travel is so crazy 😜 We can’t wait to see this place in the daylight and make it home for the next couple months 🏡 ❤️ A few tips for flying with young kids: 1. One parent per kid with the kid at the window seat and the parent in the middle seat. 2. Put whichever kid might kick the seat behind the other kid so they don’t bother anyone. 3. Use roller suitcases for the kids so they can help carry the load (they love them). 4. Use small backpacks for the kids that they can load with whatever they want…but they can’t take more than what fits in their backpack (Jovi’s is getting pretty full 😬) 5. With all the chaos going on with air travel at the moment, I think we were very lucky to arrive in England today with absolutely no issues. One of our flights was delayed by about an hour (but the time was made up in the air) and that was it! Thank you so much @aerlingus for taking care of us! A couple of tips for if you're flying this summer: 🧳 If at all possible, travel with carry on bags only - avoid checking anything unless you absolutely have to. Double check the measurements of your carry on bags, especially if flying with a budget airline, to make sure they fit. If you do have to check a bag, don't pack valuables or anything that can't be replaced. 📄 Travel insurance is a must. I always book with a credit card that includes travel insurance, but there are plenty of policies out there that will cover things like flight cancellations, delays, unexpected travel expenses, etc at a reasonable cost. 🙂 Be patient, and be very nice to airline employees. None of this is their fault and if they seem a little short or grumpy, have a little grace - they're probably dealing with a lot of angry people right now. We flew for the first time with our @wonderfoldwagon! Not only did it provide a safe clean space for the kids to play while waiting to board the plane, (we got delayed 2 hours 😬) but it was also great to put our smaller bags in. If your on the fence about needing a travel cover definitely get one. Tablet - loaded with games, downloaded songs,and the faves like peppa - I’ll probably take headphones for B too This android one from @cwowdefu is great it’s so easy to set up, great screen size and you can add lots of games it also comes with a pen! We went for green to avoid the pink / blue dramas! Reasonable price too! Snacks - loads of little healthy snacks for them to work through - I’ve also seen people do snack boxes but that way your opening loads of packets and I don’t think it stays as fresh. Colouring - I love mess free colouring all ages can get involved and no stressing over messy clothes little ones love a pen too. Sticker books also great and a notebook and pen for the older ones and also handy to play like O & Xs Small non noisy toys, I like taking figures like happyland easy to clean, can do stories, but them in stacking pots, draw around them etc. Fidget toys my 2 love also seen some that stick on to windows etc I’ll be getting! ✈️ TIPS FOR HOLIDAYING WITH KIDS 🧳 We’re back from our bumper trip to South Africa 🇿🇦 our first long haul flight (+9 hours), heading for a family event so lots on! I got many messages asking me for tips on how we handled kids- plus a busy agenda of wedding, family, outings! Here’s how we survived: ➡️swipe for pics 1. Productive Mom & Dad Joint forces👩🏽🤝👨🏾 team work splitting kids or tasks- and covering for each other so we could take breaks. This is how we create balance! 2. 🍿Keep kids snacked. I always carry my own stash of snacks - even to weddings, on flight, anyones house. Think ahead and keep kids fed early at home if you need to so they’re sorted before you go out. 3. 🖍 Keep kids entertained. Take along colours, toys, playdough. Again to weddings, on the plane , restaurants, etc. screen time as we on holiday always saving the day and we dine in peace, not pieces! 4. 🌈Give quiet time between outings. It can be exhausting for kids to be on the go constantly. Give everyone a break with more relaxing play time between big days out. Simply being home for free-play can help a lot. 6. 😴 Stick to routine and bedtime more of the time than not. This helps kids feel regulated. I also had BodyTalk sessions for each of us before hand to prepare our body’s and minds to be in best shape beforehand! There’s so much sensory info for kids when you’re somewhere new - daily tapping and good sleep habits helps to reset their system- all ready for the next day! Check my reel for more inspo.
