Did you ever have a great idea that the execution was nothing like you saw in your mind lol yeah that was lunch today. I had five minutes to pull this together. I had to leave and when it wasn’t working, I had to just suck it up and eat it as it was. Cottage cheese, cashew butter. Honey, liquid Truvia, psyllium and cocoa powder. Sounds good, right? It needed more flavor, more sweet and maybe chia seeds because it was liquid. Acompáñenme a ver esta historia ...FAIL DE ALEGRÍAS 😂 Preferí quedarme en casa y no salir porque el plan de esta tarde era hacer alegrías. La música no podía faltar y obviamente toda la emoción de hacer alegrías por primera vez con el millo traído directamente de Juan de Acosta. Dejé el millo en remojo por 1 hora, luego lo lavé y limpié bien. En una olla bien caliente puse a totear el millo para hacer la crispeta y todo iba perfecto hasta ahí. Aparte corté el coco en láminas delgadas y en otra olla puse agua, PANELA PULVERIZADA del Di One , anís y el coco hasta que cogiera el punto, después de casi 1 hora dándole , lo logré!!! Enseguida vertí el melao en la crispeta e intento armar las alegrías pero no pegan y dele, dele y dele y nada... le cuento a mis amigas #classyladies, pido auxilio a @lacucharacolora que es la experta en estos temas....debe ser aún caliente pero nada! A pesar de todos los esfuerzos por pegar la crispeta de millo para las alegrías, fracasé. Debí usar la panela ENTERA!!! Sometimes things just don't go right. I usually post my successes but here is a failure. Tried making a spicy version of the jerky and it came out tough, not crispy and stupid spicy! I most likely misremembered the thickness and for sure added way too much cayenne pepper. Half the sliced brisket is not marinated so will run that through the grinder for some burgers! So after a really positive start to the weekend this has been the first time I’ve been out and had to “get back on it” so far it’s been shit! PSA: don't cook eggs in the oven for egg salad! I saw some real online showing how you could just Crack your eggs in a pan and bake them rather than boiling and peeling...but when I tried it out it was an epic fail! Happy burrito day @chipotle 😑 This is how mercury retrograde f's with me. With my food. I had to deal with some pissy and passive aggressive moods today and tried to decide between national ramen or burrito day to end my day on a better note. Burrito won. I asked for rice, black beans, soffritos, tomato salsa, and guac. The ingredients seemed smaller than usual and I thought perfect, I won't waste food. Then we get to the end and I saw the roll attempt and it was a fail from the beginning. You can just tell when it's a crappy roll that will fall apart on first bite. I personally think if you can't roll a burrito, you get benched until you master it. And I know it's hard, it has taken me years to get it right at home. It gets worse. Everything from the rice to the guacamole was so bland 😩 lime juice didn't touch anything. Or salt. Ate half. Other went into the trash. Seduced by the website’s promises and the reputation of the local produce, we anticipated a culinary delight. But oh, what a rollercoaster it turned out to be. Firstly – the atmosphere. Nestled in a tired waterfront hotel, The Cook and Butcher desperately needs a makeover to match its online allure. Were we transported through an ‘80s time warp upon entry? The host, sporting a Madonna-esque headset, left us pondering if it was a fashion statement or left on from a drive-through gig. But ah, the view! A breathtaking distraction from the initial impressions. As we settled into our seats, we realized the comfort level rivaled that of a church pew. But no matter, the view continued to mesmerize, until the cacophony of noise hit us like a ton of bricks. Laughter of patrons echoed off the walls, threatening to dislodge our cutlery with each outburst. And then, the food arrived – a Katsu Bowl and Pacific Rim Fish & Chips. For censorship, we have edited out our first draft of the critique Let’s just say, in any other profession, accountability is key…. Fortunately for The Cook and Butcher (but not its patrons), the chef seems exempt. Gordon Ramsay would have a field day with this menu on Kitchen Nightmares, to put it mildly. Would we return? THE CAKE POST 🎂 My girl turned 15 today 🥺 Mental when I still think I’m about 19 I always ask P what kind of cake she wants, this year she asked for a musical theatre themed cake. I couldn’t make it happen. Couldn’t find an edible topper anywhere & left it too late to get a custom one - I didn’t think making laminated decs (as I have done previously) would’ve been good enough... luckily my kid is obsessed with a 46 year old man & his little band. So I had a back up.
