Unfortunately, when weight loss stalls, it isn’t because your metabolism is broken or you are in starvation mode. Many factors can come into play, here are a few! 1. You aren’t actually in a deficit. Bites, licks, tastes, sips (BLTS) matter. TDEE calculations and predictive equations are all estimations. If you’re hitting your numbers (honestly), then this may warrant re-evaluation. If starvation mode was a thing, it would protect people with eating disorders from losing weight 2. You are overestimating your energy expenditure. Our wearable trackers are fun, but they aren’t the gold standard and often are inaccurate across studies. PMID:31443347 reviewed popular wearables and accuracy was inconsistent. Take away: use it as a tool, not to make life decisions. 3. Metabolic adaptation - decreases energy expenditure in response to decreased energy availability (aggressive, frequent or prolonged calorie restrictions/deficits). Will require less calories to see results over time. 4. Hormones can play a role. If confirmed, you may need to adjust intake and expenditure to see results. 5. Bigger picture. You can overeat and still be in a deficit. Weekly AVERAGE does matter. However, if you are one to YOLO through the weekend, but follow your macros like a drill sergeant during the week, this may be a good place to visit. 6. Sleep and recovery matter. Helps to reduce stress and inflammation. Stress impacts our food choices, mood, and activity. What can we do: -Avoid crash dieting. Aiming to lose weight on as many calories as possible. - Track ACCURATELY. Be honest with yourself to help prevent frustrations/loss of motivation. -Consider diet breaks/reverse diets to maintenance to allow for more energy to come in, which can positively impact workouts, mood, and your physique/muscle. - If you have concerns about hormones, talk with you doctor. Knowledge is power. -Continue or engage in a structured strength training program at least 3-4 times a week. - DON’T Forget about increasing your NEAT!! We have to do things a lil bit differently for women 35+ looking to lose fat: ⁣ 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗤𝗨𝗘𝗘𝗡. There is no way around that. You can’t “out-cardio” a bad diet. I used to do a 75 minute cardio session and drive straight to McDonalds afterwards.⁣ ⁣ Nutrition is the easiest way to create a calorie deficit without tons of exercise for women over 35. ⁣ Next, 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 are important. If you’re not treating your body well, allowing it to recover or pushing it to its breaking point, you won’t be able to lose fat without hitting a wall. Your body can only do so much. When you feel like you need to rest, REST.⁣ ⁣ 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 increases NEAT. So more steps per day is more important than a stairmaster,  or running or vicious rounds of HIIT.⁣ ⁣ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴- one of the biggest repeated mistakes I see women 35+ saying, “I will do cardio until I get to my goal weight, then I will start resistance training”. Big Mistake. We need more muscle to tone up, change our body composition, lose weight and keep it off. We start losing muscle after 30 and that is what makes it hard to lose. I ⁣ 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼 is just a tool to push the other parts of the pie a little bit more; but less is more. Starting with 1-2 sessions per week at 15-20 min AFTER you have set & achieved a step goal. Think MORE steps and gentle cardio. Steps + Resistance Training burn a lot of calories on their own. ⁣ 👉🏽The most effective way to lose fat over 35: Calorie deficit + NEAT + resistant training and getting proper rest ⁣ Fat loss is simple, yet complex. My biggest struggle in life is currently making time for myself and my mental health is taking a battering from it! TUSCAN CHICKEN GNOCCHI 💗 Dinner tonight was delicious! This meal was super filling and only 577 cals 🙌🏼 apologies I don’t know why this picture looks such a bad quality!! It doesn’t on my camera roll 😢 Recipe (serves one): 200g gnocchi 100g chicken thigh 30g baby spinach 30g sundried tomatoes 50g less fat soft cheese 5g grated Parmesan 1/2tsp garlic granules 1/2tsp onion granules 1/2tsp paprika 1/4tsp chilli flakes 1. Preheat your oven to 190 2. Put your chicken thighs in the oven for 20 minutes until cooked through 3. Finely slice your sundried tomatoes 4. When the chicken has cooked, heat a pan and add your sundried tomatoes, spinach and chicken 5. Now add the gnocchi to the pan and lightly toast 6. Mix the soft cheese, garlic granules, onion granules, paprika and chilli flakes 7. Thinly slightly with a few tbsps of water and add into the pan 8. Heat through and season to your liking 9. When everything is nicely combined, serve in a pasta bowl and top with your Parmesan! 10. One word for tonight’s dinner…… DELICIOUS!!! 💕 Saw this on the Aldi UK page yesterday and had to have this for tonight’s dinner 👍 Popped to Aldi after School pick up, quick and easy to pick up the ingredients then home to relax and do homework 👍 The ingredients for this cost £8.14 and this will make several meals for us 👍 Cooked chicken 2 breasts £1.99 (another meal) Curry sauce £0.99 (another 2 meals) Grated Mozzarella £2.99 (will last 2 weeks) Naan Bread £0.69 Baby leaf Salad £0.89 (3 meals worth for 2) Spring Onions £0.59 (last a week) Chicken Tikka Naan Pizza 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 All for a cheeky 550 calories 👍💪 I only used one chicken breast between 2, half the bag of salad, 2 spring onions, quarter a jar sauce, sprinkle of cheese.
