Reflecting on the effects of my Qigong practice🫀 Ba Duan Jin is the most common form of Qigong in the world with thousands of variations and interpretations. This one in the picture is the second step and it translates as: Draw a bow to shoot the hawk. It’s a step which stimulates both the liver and lungs as it expands our chest and relaxes the whole body, and it increases flexibility and strength of neck and shoulders. This is a body toner and creates a sensation of calmness after their step is done on both sides, left and right. This form of Qigong is also often referred to as medical Qigong and it’s used in TCM to treat a number of conditions. Wuji Wuji (wuji 无极I無極 ) can be understood as an undifferentiated state of the universe, a formless original ground to which everything returns. It is invisible, unconditional, limitless, featureless, and incomprehensible. Most of us are in a constant state of busyness. Either outwardly, doing things, or inwardly, having thoughts all the time. This is the opposite of wuji, a state of nothingness and everything at the same time, silence, chaos etc. are just some words that try to describe this state. It is from this state, wuji, that all action and creative power emanates. So how do we get there? There are many ways to reach this state. And we can call ourselves lucky if we get there for just a fraction of a second. O comprometimento da mobilidade do tornozelo (como rigidez), muitas das vezes causada por adaptações posturais às atividades diárias, bem como o uso de calçado inadequado (como saltos altos) poderá ter implicações na passada e corrida. Para além dessas, também a execução de muitos exercícios (como o agachamento) fica comprometida, dificultando a sua realização correta. Posto isto, é fundamental que esta mobilidade seja trabalhada, para que sejam evitadas lesões futuras e se possa tirar o maior proveito do exercício físico. De modo a complementar este processo, podemos ainda realizar exercícios de libertação miofascial, com o objetivo de libertar a tensão existente na planta do pé (fáscia plantar) e músculos da parte anterior (tibial anterior) e posterior (gémeos) da perna (envolvidos na mobilidade desta articulação). You may have heard of mindfulness, and that's what comes to my mind with this quote! It's a great mental health exercise. I'd say it falls under a form of meditation. There's a common misconception that meditation is always about clearing your mind. In reality, it's not that cut and dry. Sometimes it's more about shifting what your mind is focusing on rather than a lack thereof. For instance: some people meditate in prayer, but it is definitely not restricted to the religious. There was a period of time where I listened to guided scenery/story meditation podcasts to help me wind down for bed. Mindfulness is all about being present, and to some extent I'd also say objective. There's a difference between living in the moment with all the rushes of emotion and what ifs, and just appreciating and accepting what is without all the extra mental "junk". Try taking the emotion out of your day small bits at a time, or make the goal one of awe. Ever heard of taking time to smell the roses? What I love about Qigong is a well-designed form that aims for healing and transformation.
