Meal-Prep Recipe of the Week: Avocado Asparagus Veggie Bowl Serves 4 Ingredients: 📍SEASONED CHICKPEAS 📍2 cups chickpeas, drained & rinsed 📍1 tsp ground cumin 📍1/2 tsp garlic powder 📍1 tsp sweet paprika 📍2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil VEGGIE BOW: 📍3 cups pea sprouts or watercress 📍1 bunch asparagus, washed & trimmed 📍2 large broccoli crowns, cut into florets 📍2 nearly ripe avocados, quartered 📍2 Tbsp fresh dill, chopped 📍2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice sea salt & black pepper, to taste *optional – pumpkin seeds Directions: 1.) To make the chickpeas, combine them with the spices and 1 Tbsp olive oil to a mixing bowl. Heat the remaining Tbsp of oil in a large pan on medium heat. When hot, add the chickpeas. Cook until lightly crisped and warm. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside. 2.) Prepare a grill for medium-high heat. Brush the cut sides of avocado and asparagus spears with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Then grill, turning frequently, until avocados are well-marked on all sides and asparagus is tender. Remove. 3.) Meanwhile, steam your broccoli either in the microwave covered in a glass dish with 4 Tbsp of water or in a steamer basket on stovetop until your desired tenderness. 4.) To assemble your bowls, arrange the sprouts or watercress at the bottom of 4 bowls. Top with the chickpeas, sliced avocado, asparagus and broccoli. Time restricted feeding / intermittent fasting are very popular topics on social media lately but the main question you need to ask yourself is, is it good for me? The answer of course is, it depends! TRF is simply selecting a period of time in which you eat and allowing a period of time in which you don’t consume any food or drink (with the exception of water, black tea, coffee or herbal tea). While it is very much in vogue, we have been doing it is various forms for generations. Ash Wednesday as the start of lent was traditionally a day of fasting where we consumed 1 full meal and 2 smaller meals without any meat. Other religions also adhere to fasting traditions. A simple way to start fasting is to consume all food and drink within 12hrs e.g. finish dinner by 19.30 and have breakfast the following day after 7.30. Time restricted feeding may have lots of benefits such as improved mental clarity, improved sleep, weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity and gut health however, it is not suitable for everyone. With the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study, over 156,000 subjects spanning 35 to 70 years across 17 different countries were divided based on sodium consumption into three groups: more than 7 grams per day, 3 to 6 grams per day, and less than 3 grams per day. Inne på tredje dygnet med konstiga influensasymtom. Det kan ju en hantera, trots att feber och värk är aldrig kul. Det som tär mest är hur ini h-vete mycket jobb det är att försöka få blodsockret inom resonabla nivåer. Dygnskurvan till vänster och höger är dag 2&3. Här har jag tillfört dubbelt så mycket insulin jämfört med en ”vanlig dag”. FASTÄN matintaget är nere på 1/5 då aptiten är borta!! 🤯🤬😩. De två senaste dagarna har ändå medelvärdet hållit sig precis under 10 mmol/L samt ketoner endast på 0,3 så kämpandet ger resultat. If you have been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), this is probably not news to you but if you experience hormonal issues such as irregular periods, excess hair growth on face and arms and you struggle to loose weight even though you are eating a “healthy” diet, maybe this is something to consider. PCOS is linked to abnormal hormone levels in the body and one of these hormones is insulin. Insulin is a hormone required to move glucose from your blood into your cells for energy, into your liver as glycogen and excess glucose into your fat cells for long term storage. If this system doesn’t work efficiently or if you don’t produce this hormone, you are diagnosed as diabetic and need to take insulin as a medication. With PCOS, this system MAY not be as efficient as someone without PCOS and for some ladies, it means gaining weight much more quickly and finding it harder to loose it, even when you seem to be doing everything right. A study was done with the same eating plan, and an equal amount of participants - but the patients that were told its a diet, didn’t have the same positive effects that the patients who were told its an eating plan! 3️⃣ Keep moving.
ANY movement helps, even mild walking
Start where you are now, go mild and work your way up 4️⃣ Become a label reader. (Yes, you have to be THAT PERSON!)
