April 24th was World Meningitis Day that was moved to October 5th in 2022 but given Sage was born that year, we raise awareness both days! Haemophilus influenza (non type B) the culprit for his massive infection. Haemophilus influenzae non-type B is a bacterium that can cause infections in infants and children, including pink eye, ear infection, sinus infection, and pneumonia. In rare cases, it can cause meningitis, bloodstream infections, and infection of the amniotic membranes that surround a fetus. Rare. A word I found zero comfort in & still to this day have a hard time wrapping my mind around. Yesterday he saw his Neurologist (adore that man!) every time we speak he’s says “his charts vs what you see, isn’t miraculous” it truly is miraculous! God’s isn’t limited; believe me when I say, he’s still in the miracle working business! I saw it with my own eyes & watched his medical team hide the worry while comforting my mind and informing me as they were learning also. 21.04.2024 | NOT JUST ANY BRUNCH... Yesterday, I successfully cooked myself brunch, my first totally solo meal cooked from scratch! Now this isn't a huge milestone for most BUT when you woke up 20 months ago from a coma, totally paralysed, it's a pretty big deal to be able to use my arms again to be able to cook and even be able to carry said brunch back to my dining table on wheels 🤣🙈 And DELICIOUS it was too! Props to Moi! I've only been home from hospital 125 days, and to be living totally independent and able to cook for myself AND be a responsible cat mum just makes all my hard efforts in rehab and physio worth it! Its meant I can get my life back to as close to my normal life as I can with being a full-time wheelchair user. The amount of pride I have at this moment is crazy as making a brunch back in 2022 was no big deal! This is also a massive WIN for me as my kitchen adaptations haven't yet begun, so I've only got one counter that's lowered, thanks to my Dad! It was so lush to be sat at my dining table, eating my brunch, sipping on orange juice, and watching the London Marathon, which always inspires me so much! I said back in 2012 that one day I'd be fit enough to run that iconic marathon, and although I may not run it now, what's to say I can't wheel it? I NEED to desperately lose weight and be fitter in general, but to be fit enough to do this is a goal of mine! I vow to start training harder and sorting my diet out for good, so I'm not dieting but changing my lifestyle. Losing weight will not only make me feel like me again and give me more confidence BUT will open so many doors for my recovery, I will be able to transfer with ease as @rachaellouise912 showed me last week when she stayed at mine. But in turn, that will mean I can get back driving and be able to transfer onto a plane, roll on girlie holidays! I hope you've all been enjoying some fresh air as spring is finally Spring'ing! La gimnasta de 17 años, María Herranz, natural de Cabanillas del Campo (Castilla La-Mancha) ha fallecido esta mañana debido a una meningitis. “María nos ha dejado de forma súbita a causa de una terrible meningitis que se la ha llevado en apenas 24 horas, dejando en una inconsolable tristeza a la localidad”, señalaba el ayuntamiento de la localidad castillanomanchega. Horas más tarde de comunicarse su muerte, la Sección de Epidemiología de Guadalajara ha decretado la activación de los protocolos de actuación respecto a los contactos estrechos que mantuvo la fallecida. A su vez, el Gobierno regional ha aconsejado, mediante un comunicado a la prensa, que todas aquellas personas con las que María estuvo en contacto se administren la quimioprofilaxis para prevenir la infección. So it’s been around three months since I got sick but am happy to say I am slowly but surely recovering! Neurology update 🧸 Today we had a video appointment with Teddy’s neurologist and ketogenic dietician. They are happy with his growth and weight on the diet and his present level of seizure control. Teddy is currently on phenobarbital which alongside keto, has worked very well for him. In the past we were told Teddy would probably have seizures every day and medication would be unlikely to give him seizure freedom. Despite this, since being on the diet we sometimes haven’t seen any seizures for upto 5 weeks. As with all medication there are risks as well as benefits. One of the adverse effects of phenobarbital is a negative impact on cognition. This is something Teddy’s brain injury has already had an effect on. Teddy has had so many improvements in his quality of life since weaning off his other anti-epileptics that although he may never achieve seizure freedom (of course we will still always hope and wish for this), with all of the above in mind, it would be beyond amazing if he became medication free. He has been on the same dose of phenobarbital for over a year which means he’s slowly growing out of its therapeutic effects. Rather than actively reducing the dose (which is how we weaned off the other meds) we’re hoping he will remain on this dose and will slowly and naturally outgrow it himself. It will take a while but we will be keeping our fingers, toes and curls crossed, and wishing on every star we see that slow and steady will win the race 🤞🏻✨🐢🧸 #epilepsy #refractoryepilepsy #ketogenicdiet #acquiredbraininjury #meningitissurvivor #childdisability

The video is appauling and I can't understand why these people are allowed a platform, to encourage and influence their audience! It really is horrible and puts the idea that disabled people are not worthy of being proud to be with! That people should be embarrassed or ashamed to stand by a 'mangled' person. His words! Disability can happen at ANY time to ANYONE and its really sad that this video has been a trigger for so many people who've been through traumatic accidents or illness which have resulted in their disability and subsequently have lost relationships due to their partner having the same small mind and being too worried about what others think to stand by them! Just incase your not aware of the videos that's sparked this response globally, I have included it with this post. I've recently started dating again since my injury back in 2022. And even though its super early days, I wanted to change the narrative of this disgusting video and share an aspect of my life, with someone who's not ashamed of being seen in public with me. Who see's me for me and who doesn't let my disability define me!3 To prove these boys wrong! And show them that disabled people are worthy of having relationships where the able person isn't embarrassed! I feel it in my heart to start some meningitis awareness. Before Khloe’s symptoms began and even after they started I had no idea it could be meningitis and just listened to every Dr I took her to, that it was a sinus infection. After talking to Dr’s in Phoenix and now in San Diego, I feel the need to let parents know that meningitis is going around more now after COVID. Dr’s don’t know why but have seen a jump in cases of meningitis. They’ve seen about 10 to 15 cases here in San Diego and Phoenix had 8 cases in just this year alone. Before COVID, they had only seen 1 case in 10 years. So I can see why they don’t advocate it but I wouldn’t want another family to go through what we’ve been going through especially what Khloe has been going through. Severe headache that won’t go away with Motrin and/or Tylenol, weakness in the legs and arms, pain so severe. Inflammation of the brain after surgeries has Khloe’s emotions up and down like a roller coaster. Don’t wish this on no child! A month ago, I almost lost Khloe to meningitis and today we’re working on getting better. Still, another surgery is almost likely in a few days but praying that it’s not needed and antibiotics do its job as it has been. Listen to your child and ask the Dr to double check. If you feel it’s something more and you have to keep taking them to different drs or hospitals just do it until someone listens. Speak up and ask them, what if it was your child? You know they go above and beyond for their children so why not every child. So here I am advocating for meningitis, you never know it could happen to your child. The “ugly” part of losing 100lbs.. loose skin that reminds me of the pizza dough that helped get me to 220lbs 😔 My husband (per my request) gifts me Botox|fillers for special occasions|holidays and I half jokingly suggested he start a “tummy tuck fund” for Valentine’s instead of buying me another Chanel bag.
