It felt so good to get back out on the trails this morning, after taking the week off to let my legs rest and recover! With the mountainsides covered in wildflowers, the songbirds singing their beautiful songs, the babbling creeks, it was a sensory overload of nature's stunning beauty!! And, I was so happy to get to spend the day yesterday watching my kids compete in a music competition for school, followed by some time playing at Six Flags. The choir won first place and the band won third place. Super proud of Hugh for knocking his solo out of the park! De tijd waarin ik niet beter wist. ✨️Maar nu je het eenmaal weet, kun je het niet meer niet weten. 🧭Nu weet ik dat er een andere route is. Een route die ervoor zorgt dat ik de verbinding met mezelf niet verlies. Een route met meer licht en verbinding, meer ruimte in mijn hoofd en lijf, een route met meer ontspanning. Zo nu en dan heb ik moeite om te accepteren dat er tijdens deze reis momenten zijn waarin je in een soort van tussenfase bevindt. Een fase waarin je verloren, verward, boos, leeg, ongezien, gebroken voelt. Learning how to interpret the animal signals in your environment can have a huge impact on how you choose to interact with your surroundings… especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors 👣 Many animals inhabit areas we can't see or access, but if we pay attention to their signals, we can start to get a feel for what’s going on in that area. Kind of like when a friend goes over the next hill or to the next street to see if a restaurant’s open or if there’s an easier way to cross the river. We don’t see what they saw, but we glean intel from what they say when they come back. Many animals also have sensory abilities that put ours to shame, and by reading their behavior, we can figure out what they know, even if we ourselves can’t sense it. Lazy W Ranch family camp “glamping” in cabins, archery 🏹 , Family Olympic Games, worship ✝️ and uplifting praise music led by @Aidee Anaya and Pastor Bob’s guitars that Tristan danced/rocked out to, donned Buzz Lightyear and Zurg costumes for the heroes and villains themed dinner. Proudest moment was Tristan singing 🎤🎵 first solo performance ever of “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman during the talent show - although he’s sung before big crowds before with SCCC Choir the past 2 years, it took such bravery to get on stage and sing this difficult song perfectly from memory, I cried tears of joy when he nailed it! The military style obstacle course was a fan favorite of the kiddos of all ages, arts and crafts galore, great nature fix only 1hr from home and grateful the rain held off until 8pm Saturday night so we enjoyed s’mores bonfire 🔥 Friday instead. Enjoyed fellowship with new friends from neighboring Churches ⛪️ Stoked Pastor @cat4ant joined the fun, as well as Aidee and the Demeure family at @uumchurch . Pleasantly surprised our cabin had a shower, kitchen, and living room - Tristan enjoyed bunking on the top. So appreciated that cabins, food, and activities were included in the reasonable cost making it an easy yes for us busy working parents. A special thanks to Kimmie Stradling who master planned this event and pivoted well due to the weather, a Herculean effort! I started running trails consistently right around the time when Covid hit. There were multiple reasons and events that led to that and there is so much more that has come from it than I can fully express here. But all of that trail time then led to finding these ultra long trail races. I didn't think I could ever do anything over a marathon, until one day I realized how disconnected I felt from my body and felt instinctively that a long run in the mountains would help me break through mental barriers that were making me feel stuck. What's interesting is that breaking through those barriers just required me to get fully present with my body in a way I could silence any fears of the future and any regrets of the past. To be fully present in my body for 7-8 hours, checking in with my legs, my lungs, my arms, my heart, is such a beautiful form of meditation and awe. I ran my fourth ultra marathon yesterday, shaving off about a half hour from last year's race, and feeling so overwhelmed by how beautiful this journey has been, connecting with Mother Earth in a deeper way that has allowed me to reconnect more fully with myself. Pushing through barriers, tuning into my inner voice, listening to my body, feeling aligned mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually, has been such an incredible experience for my soul. The deeper I find myself exploring the wild and free trails in the mountains, the more I find the wild and free parts of my inner child that breathe life and joy and creativity back into my veins. I'm not sure what's next, but for today I just want to honor the beautiful gift of a body that houses a miraculous nervous system, and feeling that joy of getting to move and play and run free, tuning into it and taking care of it, recognizing how much it has taken care of me. And gratitude for the trees, for how they have saved me, daily. Gratitude also goes to Marc for his support especially on weekends in the midst of training when I wake up early and am gone for 3-4 hours. While I was waiting for Ayla to get out of surgery on Friday, the sun finally came out so I decided to explore one of the trails near the vet’s office. I only packed UGGS and sandals so I picked the UGGS since it was still really cold outside! I had barely gone 3/4 of a mile before the vet’s office called and said Ayla was already out of surgery so I hustled back to the car and went to get her. It’s hard to believe that within an hour of these photos, the clouds returned in full force along with the rain/snow! When I spotted this I had no idea what it was. A gentle prod revealed it to be softer and squidgier than expected. A few minutes research when I got home opened me up to a world of slightly icky and amazing info: it's false puffball (aka cauliflower slime mould). Once considered to be fungi, slime moulds are now recognised as a completely different kingdom of single celled organisms. The cells clump together to form bigger structures AND THEY ARE CAPABLE OF MOVING LIKE AMOEBA. That's where it got really interesting for me.
