I feel like it's time people know that I'm one of them. I got my diagnosis three years ago, after suspecting it about myself for a few years. Shortly before I got my diagnosis, I overheard someone (who I'd never been anything but nice to) call me a "weirdo" and "socially inept" when speaking to a few of our mutual friends, and that's a big part of what made me decide it was time to get assessed. I have what used to be known as Asperger's syndrome, which comes under autism now. It mainly affects my social skills and it's the reason why I wasn't good at mixing at school. Even as an adult, I'm insecure about some friendships and how much people accept me. I do try, but I'm terrible at small talk, I can't make eye contact, I struggle with starting or joining in with conversations (I'm not so bad with people I know better), I don't always pick up on social cues, hints often go right over my head and sometimes I completely miss sarcasm/irony unless it's in the right tone. There's more, but those are the main ways I'm affected. I just thought it was time to share. Some people already know, but there's no reason the rest of the world shouldn't. It’s just a Jean skirt…. But also it’s not. When I was young, like 10 young, I remember this one family from church, they were very sweet and kind but in my simple mind, they were weird. They all wore jean dresses and I knew they were homeschooled. In my head that = weird. I remember when I heard God call me to homeschool. I felt uncomfortable, unfit, unprepared, and to be honest, unwilling. I didn’t want my kids or myself to be weird. We’re in our 6th year now and every year I get a little bit more weird, but I love it and I embrace it. And when I say weird, I just mean I look a little bit more like that “weird family” I saw as a kid more and more. I no longer can watch normal tv without checking parents reviews for myself, because if it’s not beautiful or lovely or praiseworthy, why bother? I try not to speak like the world because I want to look more like Jesus and less like the world. I don’t want my kids to be immersed in the things of this world because they’re little and I want to preserve their childhood as long as is appropriate. I just know if I saw myself now with the eyes from 10 year old me, she’d label me as “weird”. They were just comfortable in the calling God put on them. I however was not comfortable in my own skin. For the last few years, it’s been the first time in my life I feel comfortable in my skin, in my calling, in who God has made me to be. So when I saw this jean skirt for $2 at the thrift store it reminded me of that homeschool mama back then that knew who she was and embraced it. I know who I am and what Gods call me to be and I embrace it. Its just a jean skirt…. But is also not just a jean skirt 🩵

Her original wig came off a year ago. So I had bought myself one (never could wear a wig) liked it but something I’ll could never wear. So I put my wedding hair clip in this wig and glued it on my mannequin that I display my wedding dress on. This was crazy to my husband when I first bought her for my dress, but, let me tell you, HE LOVES IT! I once covered her dress (my wedding dress) with Lilly Pulitzer to take a picture. My challengers are single, married, divorced, moms, stepmoms, soon-to-be moms, grandmas, military wives, engaged, and more. We range from our 20s to 60s in age. We are teachers, nurses, stay-at-home moms, students, pediatricians, ultrasound techs, directors of training, administrators, restaurant managers, project managers, civil engineers, business owners, and so much more. We all have different life struggles we’re trying to navigate...infertility, divorce, death, low self-esteem, illness, kids, finances, anxiety, social injustices, and more. We’re all just trying to be the best version of ourselves. We have found a community that works for us—working out at home, accountability, and lifting each other up. We show up for ourselves and for each other every day. This is NO DIFFERENT than physically walking into a gym with a friend. Working on your health and wellness is hard. So yesterday carli wasn’t quite ready to come home she had other plans for us 😂 she recently has become interested in her religion and wanting to know more about it, so off to temple we went 😊 she then wanted girly time so me and Leonie took her to the park, fed the ducks and got ice cream! Now we could have said no, we could have not even tried to get on but we both love her and want her to be happy! So we did it and the good thing is we genuinely do get on but regardless to that we both have carlis best interest at heart and just want her to be happy, we all do! So carli has a very loving 4 parent family and it works and for that I am so so grateful! The smile she has on her face when she gets us all together is priceless 🥰❤️ Everything i do is for you and I’m so proud of the little lady your becoming! You make us all so proud! ❤️

I like darker shots, shadows, mystery and suspense in my imagery. I’m sure there is some childhood trauma that this is a result from. Or maybe it was scenes like this that was my escape and this explains my intrigue with spaces and lighting like this. Possibly the latter I feel. I used to sneak out all the time, climbing down from my bedroom window when I was younger. Dressed in my ninja outfit (yes, I had one and I was an awesome ninja thank you), all blacked out, sneaking around in the shadows watching him as he made pottery. Feeling safe in the darkness like it made me invisible. It was exciting and invigorating to me the way I could see and not be seen. I would just sit sometimes in a real dark patch and gaze upon a scene like this and just look at it for the longest time. What I pack in my kids school lunch! 🥙 pb&j with a splash of Nutella on a carb balance tortilla 🍎🍉fruit right now is apples and watermelon 🍨pudding (homemade) or yogurt (sugar free) 🍿popcorn 🍓fruit snack. 🌟🌟🌟 I keep it as low sugar as I can with them still eating. This guy, our Boboi - such a unique character with his unique ways - from him hating the cold water especially in an outdoor pool, to tiptoeing on the pool deck (cos it's dirty) if he's not wearing his scuffs, to marshalling behind his lane for his race + being so blasé he's still got his clothes + shoes on but no goggles when the whistle goes for his race 😳🤷🏽♀️ These are just a few of the quirky characteristics that make our big boy so special - nonetheless he is incredible, even though he has no idea how incredible he actually is - which makes him even more so 🤯 He had a tough Day 1 being very up + down with anxiety + nerves, but Day 2 he was more in control of his emotions...so we're slowly making progress with his mindset.
