Do you enjoy books about historical costume? I really love anything to do with historical costume, and am sure somewhere in the multiverse there is a me who designs costumes for historical dramas. I still have my first costume book from when I was 9. Now of course I’m drawn to beautiful antique and vintage versions. The lovely book at the front is from A& C Black’s colour series. It’s full of small back and white drawings and lovely colour plates ( please swipe to see). I will put the Iris Brooke illustrations and another favourite vintage costume book series in my stories. You can’t mention costume without thinking of historical TV and film adaptations. I’m watching Queen Charlotte at the moment and the clothes, particularly the embroidery on many of the men’s costumes is just incredible. Another stand out series because of the costumes is the 1920s Miss Fisher mysteries set in Australia. Such incredible and high quality costume making. Do you sometimes watch series just for the costumes? Do you have a favourite series or film that you love for the costumes?

• Saturday March 23 2024 • Finished WAKE by @shelleyburrwrites yesterday…really enjoyed it. This was Shelley Burr’s debut from 2022 and the start of the Lane Holland series. I have book 2 RIPPER on my shelf ready to go in the near future. I thought this was a fantastic start for Burr’s series, and I enjoyed that the main character was not a police detective but a private detective with a person stake in solving a 19 year old cold case of a young girls disappearance in rural Australia. {Today} I'm seeking refuge in here! It's still an obstacle course on the landing with boxes and binbags and all manner of stuff. The kitties are very happy as it's just one HUGE playground for them! Usually, Thursdays are my cleaning days. But, seeing as the downstairs rooms are getting a good 'going over'on Saturday, I've decided to pass on today's chores and spend time in my studio. I had planned to go for a walk, but tbh I'm tired of getting wet. So a day of painting it is. Must say I'm really looking forward to getting the old paintbrushes in my hand. Our kitty got out on Saturday & has still not come home. Clementine (Lemon) stole our hearts, and while she frequently likes to prey on whoever is leaving the house so she can get outside to play with the other neighborhood cats, she ALWAYS comes home after an hour or two max but Saturday night she never came home. The amount of flyers printed, places I’ve posted our info and time spent looking is unreal, and not even a sighting. Trying to stay hopeful, but also just crushed. We feel like since she knows her way home there’s no way someone didn’t take her in, or something bad happen or she’d be home by now. 😰 There’s apartments behind us and Kennedy just keeps randomly yelling out our back door “give us back our cat” so at least she’s giving us some much needed comic relief. Cluttery little corner bookshelf with some treasures, with morning light. I love the light, watching it as it moves around the rooms throughout the day, and the cats as they try to soak it up in the brief moments of late winter. In February I read 17 books. A couple very good ones but I think my favorite read of the month was A Spell of Winter by Helen Dunmore. A slow unfurling gothic story where everything happens while so little is going on. A story to keep you up at night, to think over while you do the washing up for days after you read the last words. It’s the third Dunmore I have read over probably ten years and I am so glad there are more to stretch out looking forward to reading. #booklover #inkdrinker #marchlight #onmyshelves #echohouselibrary
One of my absolute favorite things about February was the beautiful package from @smartcookiephiles, I was BLOWN away, and there’s no way I’d be able to display it well enough, there were treats that I ate immediately, not one book but two books that were TOP of my wishlist and I just felt LOVED as I opened the package! Here’s the BOOKS: LOVE IN WINTER WONDERLAND by @abiolabello — @thatsoestelle made this a MUST own for my shelves, the endpapers are bookshelves and absolutely stunning. OKAY, CUPID by @mason_deaver | Somehow I HAVEN’T read anything by Mason yet, but I just knew I had to have this one from the synopsis that it would be a must-read as a romance reader! & this reading journal?! SO fabulous, obsessed with the teal color and cannot wait to utilize some of the pages for March reading — do you use a journal?! I do different projects each year and always love finding new ways to get creative!
