Must Read Fantasy Romance Part 2 ❤️ Anyone else loved the Mortal Instrument/Infernal devices series by @cassieclare1 ! The Herondales *sigh* were one of my first tortured book boyfriends! I read the books, watched the movie and tv show! Absolute fan! And of course can’t forget the great @kristenashleybooks ! Just when you think she only writes contemporary romance, boom, she proves you wrong and wrote some of my favourite fantasy romance ever, which I happily re-read over and over again. Btw, they are heavily romance focused which is sometimes ALL you need! Each book focusing on a different couple. ✨mini reviews✨ • Kristen Ashley’s new release, Avenging Angel, sent me on a week long binge of different KA re-reads, so here are some quick thoughts about the books I read last week Rock Chick Rescue ⭐️⭐️💫-⭐️ I love the Rock Chick books but this one wasn’t a favourite. Ava’s introduction and her story with her mother had a lot of potential, but unfortunately I didn’t feel the chemistry between her and Eddie and I felt like she just didn’t treat him very well for 90% of this book. The ending was abrupt and really didn’t resolve anything between them. Still an enjoyable read if you like KA’s writing and I liked the early look at the Rock Chick Universe, but probably not one I’ll come back to. Complicated ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 My original rating for this was 3/5 stars but I feel like I need to bump it up considering this is the second time I’ve felt compelled to re-read Complicated. Hix has just divorced his wife of 20 years and starts seeing Greta, a local hairdresser with a complicated past of her own. Despite what seems like a lot of baggage, Hix and Greta are so sweet, mature, and completely gone for each other. I find the setting a little lacking in this book (which is interesting, considering KA can deliver big on a small-town romance) so it doesn’t get cult status for me like Sweet Dreams and Motorcycle Man, but I’m still a big fan. Ride Steady ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Another re-read and probably my favourite in the Chaos series and one of my all-time favourite KA books. Joker is a member of the Chaos MC and he and former cheerleader, current single mom Carissa were almost-high school sweethearts who have reconnected. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.25 This book was soo much action-packed. I was expecting to read a romance book with some action. It was such a fast-paced book, the actions started from early chapters. If you are looking for a romance book with lots of action, and also making you laugh out loud, you should definitely give this book a chance! Indy has been in love with Lee since she was 5 years old. When Rosie, the barista at Indy’s bookstore has lost a bag of diamonds, Indy gets involved into the matter, where people are shooting at them. Indy’s best friend Ally takes them to her brothers house to hide from the shooters, telling Lee won’t be home for a couple of days. Lee comes home that night and finds Indy and Rosie there. Now, Lee doesn’t have choice but to help Indy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 • My baby Sniff is all grown up! Avenging Angel is the first book in a new series by Kristen Ashley and is a direct spin-off of her arguably most well-known work, the Rock Chick series. I’m a big fan of the Rock Chick books, there’s only two in the entire 9+ book series that I haven’t read yet, but I’ve made up for it by re-reading Rock Chick, Rock Chick Reckoning, and Rock Chick Regret so many times it’s borderline concerning. I’ve been loving all of KA’s recent releases, so I was so pumped to get this new series and it definitely did not let me down. It felt nostalgic and while you definitely don’t have to have read Rock Chick to know what’s going on, you’ll definitely appreciate it a lot more if you at least read a couple – which I actually think is quite fitting, because this book really felt like a love letter to her long-time readers. While there are cameos galore and many nods to the formula of the Rock Chick books, I’m really liking the new direction for the Angels. As much as I love the Rock Chick series, it is a well-known fact, at least for me, that by the end of the book I’m mostly fantasizing about how incredible it would feel to bitch-slap the heroine. At least with the earlier installments, the FMC spends basically the entirety of the book in a very committed relationship with the hero while constantly waxing poetic about how she can’t be with him and how he doesn’t really like her (and occasionally flirting with his friends, AVA). The writing, secondary characters, MMC’s, and the wonderful endings pretty much negate all of that frustration, but it’s worth noting. However, despite being a spin-off, it doesn’t appear that the Angels series will follow this same formula. Cap and Raye make no bones about the fact that they are very much INTO EACH OTHER and have absolutely zero problem making it known to each other and all of their friends and family. This doesn’t eradicate any of the tension or chemistry between the leads, and I think Raye has all of the best qualities of a classic Rock Chick without any of the wishy-washiness – which I think Cap deserves. It was so good to be back in the Rock Chick world. Avenging Angel by @kristenashleybooks is the first book in the long awaited spin-off series of Rock Chick. It follows Raye and Cap, also known as "Sniff" when he was a teenager in the original series. It has more shenanigans, more craziness, found family. I was reticent about seeing Cap has the main male character after knowing him before, but I shouldn't. It was the perfect balance between the old characters and the new, and I can't wait to be back in Phoenix. Happy Sunday!! What’s everyone reading this weekend? I recently found a new to me author, Lexi Blake, and have fallen in love with her Masters and Mercenaries series. I was told by a fellow Kristen Ashley lover that her books were similar so I gave them a try. Lexi’s series is different in that they are spies instead of a motorcycle club, as well as having a BDSM theme. But overall, they are both very similar series. They both have a tight knit group of friends who are fiercely protective of those around them. They make me wish I had that type of big friend group in real life. There’s humor mixed in with all the drama and they always have me cracking up! They both just do so well of making me feel like I’m in these stories with these characters and make me feel so giddy. While I’ve found all the books in the series are stand alone, they are interconnected. That being said you are able to read RAID without having read KNIGHT (book 1) and CREED (book 2) but for a better reading experience I recommend starting with KNIGHT (I actually started with RAID first then read KNIGHT). At its core, RAID is a small town romance (In my opinion), our MFC, Hanna, has loved Raiden ‘Raid’ Miller since she was 6, so we have some pining and some minor Unrequited love as Raid is 3 years older and left for the Marines after he graduated High school. They reconnect years later after he’s been Honourably Discharged and has come home to Willow, Colorado. Finally starting this book. I’m a big @kristenashleybooks fan. Her Rock Chicks collection were the first series I read that made me so emotional. I laughed. I cried. I became invested in the life of some fictional characters that I wished were real. The way, the author link every book in the series with past characters, that way giving us, the readers, the ability of revisiting them and knowing how their fictional lives are going. And now, she creates this spin off, based on the Rock Chicks collection and I’m so excited to get back into their world. To the Hot Bunch, to the girls and this new generation. Cap (AKA Sniff from the Rock Chick Series) is a kickass PI that has recently moved to Phoenix to work in the new branch of the Nightingale Investigations and Security. They meet while saving a kidnapped kid. But that is not the only case they have to solve. I LOVED THIS BOOK. Every single chapter. Every single character. KA is a genius when it comes to creating a large and complex cast for her books. And she doesn't disappoint. There are various parallel stories developing throughout the book and we get to meet most of the original RCHB from Denver, while discovering the new characters. For the fans of the Rock Chick series this is pure gold. Many of the original characters make an appearance. I especially loved Tex and Nancy's visit and Tito's welcoming reaction. If I have to find one minor problem with this book, I'd say there are so many characters and so many things going on that Raye and Cap's story seems a little marginal or taken for granted at times. Book Review | | Fighting the Pull by Kristen Ashley ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶🌶 Swipe for full synopsis - This was such a great addition to a series I am really coming to love and cherish. I love how this series came to be, and I love how it's continuing. It's truly a series I will be very sad to see come to end one day in the future (hopefully no time soon). As for this particular book, I've truly been waiting for Hale's book since I read the first book in this series, and this book did not disappoint me in the slightest. If you're new here, I absolutely love a broken/tortured hero, and Hale fits that to a tee. Hale has got a complicated past, a big part of that being his relationship with both of his parents, one of which died prior to the start of this series, and not in the easiest of ways. The topics this book explores are definitely on the heavier side, but I loved how they were handled. They were 100% handled with care and understanding, and that is everything I could have wanted for this book and character. I loved how the relationship between Hale and Elsa developed over the course of the book. I never would have picked Elsa for Hale when I first started this series, but she really was the perfect partner for him. I loved the growth we got to see from Hale. I loved the conversations we got to see between Hale, Tom, and Ginny. I loved the found family vibes of this book and the protective nature of Hale. I love how Elsa didn't let Hale get away with anything and how she stood up for herself. Just... everything about this book was truly great. This is definitely not a typical romance book. It is more of a potpourri of a mystery + romance book with a little magic thrown in. Ian (as the future Earl) and Daphne are thrown into closed proximity as Daphne is invited to stay at her sisters’s boyfriends’s sprawling home with so much history and so much death (?!) and way too many rooms. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the many rooms and I was reminded of my time exploring historical places like Versailles. And dear Ian is such a cinnamon roll. “Well done, Angels. 💕💕 And well freaking done @kristenashleybooks!! I knew I was going to love this book, but even then I still was not prepared! And I didn’t let my paperback being delayed stop me from reading. I immediately got the ebook and when work got in the way, got the audio version (which was fantastic!)🤣 I was going to cry if I had to wait any longer! I’m not the first to say it, but this felt like coming home ❤️ This is the first book in her new series, which is a spin off of the Rock Chicks/Hot Bunch. This takes place in Pheonix and first up for the task is Julien, or Sniff, as we once knew him. Now he goes by Cap and he has become what Luke Stark would call, a hapless male. In true Hot Bunch form he falls for the beautiful girl who is out to save the world. And as Lee said “Fucking hell, it’s happening again.” I adored getting to revisit all of the RC/HB again in a new setting and introduce a new crew! I was cracking up at Tex as always and I just already want to go read this again! She had me all up in my feels and not only because I was so happy to be back in this world! I could go on and on about all the goodness in this book but IG won’t let my captions be that long 🤣 So a Goodreads review will have to do, which is up! This book can be read as a standalone. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but this author delivered on this first installment to the new series. I absolutely LOVED reading this book and found myself many times either laughing out loud while reading or with a huge smile on my face. It contains everything you would expect to see in a book by this author, and did a great job of also bringing us back into the same type of antics and fun and hotness we used to get from reading a Rock Chicks book, while bringing in a cast of new characters and deftly interweaving some of our favorites from the original series. The mix of new characters and ones from previous series was handled well and really enjoyed all of it. Despite the fact there were a lot of fun and lighthearted moments in this story, there were also some really serious, hard topics that were a part of this storyline, which was cause for some really serious moments in this story. Both Julien, Sniff who we met in Rock Chick Renegade, is exactly what we like in a Kristen Ashley hero - protective, possessive but also had a difficult childhood. Raye’s background is extremely tragic and the two of them together were a perfect fit. Despite dealing with some really difficult and sad topics, Avenging Angel was also funny, steamy and just lots of fun. 🌟📚💗 This book was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it was absolutely worth the wait! Avenging Angel by @kristenashleybooks was fresh, new, and exciting yet familiar and nostalgic. Three chapters in and I knew this was going to be one of my favorite books of the year. This story had all the Rock Chick goodness I've come to know and love but it is its own version that fits perfectly into the world. I was hooked immediately. I loved the new crew and found families, and was excited about everything I was reading. This was filled with so many fantastic moments, fun scenes, drama and intensity, and hotness. I loved it all! What new releases are you looking forward to? There are a crazy number of new releases this week, and I was lucky to receive ARCs for several. My first post for new release week is @kristenashleybooks Avenging Angel, which happens to not only be my favorite read from March, but one of my top reads of the year so far. And it releases TOMORROW! I think KA is one of those authors than can write it all, but there’s also something to be said for returning to your roots. And that’s exactly what KA did with Avenging Angel. This is the Rock Chick spinoff old-school fans have been waiting for, and it did not disappoint. You all know I love Kristen’s books. I read them and post about them all the time. But Avenging Angel… easily my favorite new release from her. And because I feel I should tell you a little bit about the actual book (rather than just gush about how much I enjoyed it), The Avenging Angel series is a spinoff from the Rock Chick series (as stated), and this is written very much in the style of the Rock Chick books. Raye and Luna reminded me a ton of Indy and Ally, though in AA, someone decides that it’s a good idea to finance their crazy and hence, the Avenging Angels are born. Cap (aka Julian Jackson, aka Sniff) is a true KA alpha male. And why wouldn’t he be? He grew up with the hot bunch! So with the Avenging Angels series, we get a new generation of hot bunch investigators, a new generation of Rock Chicks coined Avenging Angels. And Tex. Lots and lots of Tex.
