April I had time. Took a solo trip and finished the Good Girls Guide to Murder series. This was super YA is that bad no, is it for me ALSO NO 🤣🤣🤦🏾‍♀️. It also dragged a little at the end. The first two books had a very good end and then we got to the third book this one did not. But Holly did great linking the full story. I would enjoy this as one book didn't love as three. You definitely have to read in order to understand the full story Sooo another unpopular opinion 🙈 I enjoyed Before I Ler Go better than This Could Be Us (yes it's a sequel, no you don't have to read the first one to read this one. It's a really good story, that draws you in, but I think because it is a sequel I wanted more. BUT I've also heard ppl like this one more - what's your thoughts if you read both? #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackgirlsread #bookstagram #GoodGirlsGuideToMurder #ThisCouldBeUs #GGGTM

BOOK REVIEW! This novel was nothing what I expected it be. In fact, it was everything and MORE. Including themes of love, friendship, family, art, self reflection, self reliance, and historical knowledge, this book was the epitome of “genre-bending.” A true blend of Harlem Renaissance and Modern Harlem. I also loved the character development which ultimately led to this magical realism love story. ✨ COMING SOON ✨ So, one of the biggest things I wanted to do was release a book series over the summer, and I'm making that happen. I know that a lot of authors do this under their publishers with a group of authors, but I didn't want to miss out on the fun, so I'm doing one on my own. This project has truly been a labor of love, and I can't wait until y'all meet the Jones brothers and their women. This series is special because each book will be released two weeks apart! With all of that being said, allow me to introduce the Dallas Summer Series, the characters, and the release schedule. 5/15: A Dallas Summer with A Boss 5/29: A Dallas Summer with A Shooter 6/12: A Dallas Summer with A Gangsta 6/26: A Dallas Summer with A Thug Oh, each book will be a full length novel too! So, I hope y'all are ready! I'll share more details about each book as we get closer to their release dates. #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackgirlswhoread #blacklove #blackromance #blackromancereads #blackromancereader #blackauthors #khemistrij #authorkhemistrij #khemistrijbooks #authorkhemistrijbooks #newreleasecomingsoon #bookreleasecomingsoon #bookreleasecomingsoon #bookcomingsoon #bookreleasecountdown #comingsoon #upcomingbookrelease #bookrelease #booksbooksbooks

Currently Reading: 👑 Cinderella is Dead 👑 This is an audio book for me, free on the Libby app with your public library card 💳 I haven't posted a 'currently reading' in a while. I'll just hop into the next book without a care in the world, lol So far, this book is good. Homegirl is basically tired of the 'government' and how shit is ran. Which I can totally agree with! It's like the government telling us what we can and can not do with our bodies like BYE! 😒 #cinderellaisdead #bookblogger #blackbookstagrammer #blackgirlsreadtoo

📖: You Belong to Me ✒: @authormonicawalters Genre: Black/African American Romance, Fiction ⭐s:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 💭: These two! Every time I finish one of Monica's books I declare it's my new favorite, lol. I loved Shylou and Cass together. Theirs was a combination of pain and comedy. They had real issues and Monica grappled them with compassion and heart. I laughed out loud and teared up a few times, too. Cass was hilarious to me. I was glad to see that they were willing to do the hard work to get their relationship back on track. Them office chicks were ratchet though. **Book Review** This was my first read from author Emily Henry, and unfortunately, this book did not live up to they hype around her. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book, but because I've seen so many people harp about how great her books are, I was expecting more. So, did I enjoy this novel? Yes, I did. I read it in less than 24 hours, but there were a lot of parts that I just didn't understand or simply bugged me. This group of friends are supposed to be so tight-knit, but they're all keeping these extremely important life changing secrets from one another. On top of that, the break up between Harriet and Wyn was based on a lack of communication between the two. You would think after so many years of being together, they would be able to express to each other how they feel or could sense that the other was unhappy. Also, it just irritated me that they got back together, Harriet just tosses her career away to follow Wyn and starts to do pottery. I know that in the book, she explains to her mom that she's doing it for herself and she's not following a man, but to me, it seemed like she was just following a man. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I like how it wasn't just a romance, but it was a book about friendship and hanging on to that through adulthood. My favorite scene is when Cleo let's it slip that she's pregnant and Sabrina tells them that now is the time to confess stuff because it's impossible to get angry so they all start admitting to things. I thought that was hilarious. My rating: 3.5/5⭐️ Would I recommend: yes. #bookishlove #booksatgram #bookworm #blackgirlsreadtoo #bookish #bookishcommunity #booktok #bookishfriends #booklover #bookgirlies #bookseries #bookreview #emilyhenry #happyplace

Title: My Husband’s Ex The audiobook is titled Ex-Girlfriend) by Rosie Walker 🎧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book pulled me in and kept me invested until the end. The premise was good, so I was very interested in reading this one. It was addictive and full of suspense, and I was very entertained the whole ride. The author did a great job building suspense and setting the atmosphere. Though annoying at times, I appreciated Sadie’s inner monologue. I don’t know many people who would allow their husband’s ex to show up on a family vacation and just let them stay and wreak havoc, so that part was farfetched to me. There were twists and turns galore. The plot and story unfolded in a way that had me engrossed in what was going to happen. Then we get to the ending, and I was thoroughly confused. On top of being rushed, it was very outlandish. There wasn’t enough preparation for that ending. It seemed that it was an afterthought, and felt extremely rushed. It could’ve been a slam dunk if there was better thought and development around the ending. Helen McAlpine did an outstanding job with the narration. I always enjoy books narrated by McAlpine. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the ALC and the ARC in exchange for my honest review. #readersofinstagram #bookshelf #bookworld #instaread #bookoftheday #booklife #booklover #booklovers #bookstagram #bookish #blackgirlsread #bookishgirl #booksofinstagram #readergirl #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #read #reading #blackgirlsread #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackwomenreadtoo #bookrecommendations #bookstoread #arcreader #arcreaders #advancedreadercopy #advancedreaderscopy

I don’t do book reviews anymore because it ruins the point of the book (so I was told) but I just like to enjoy the book without having to write or type out what I read, who the characters was, what was the problem in the book and so forth and so on. In all the ways I had heard about Angela Davis, somehow I didn’t know she was jailed. This autobiography showed snippets of Angela’s life that woke up her social consciousness. Something so interesting to me was her refusal to indulge in self-pity while in the carceral system or sink into thinking of just herself. Her appreciation of the global efforts to free her, but also being committed to condemning a carceral system that silences people who did not have the “political clout” she did.

In the month of May, a tapestry of tales unfurls before eager readers, beckoning them to traverse from the shadowed corridors of a prestigious academy to the fathomless depths of the sea and the heart of age-old legends. Each tome holds a unique odyssey, weaving threads of mystery, enchantment, and profound reflections on the human soul. 📚 At the forefront stands “Ace of Spades” by Faridah Àbíké-Íyimídé, a debut masterpiece that unveils the clandestine realm of Niveus Private Academy, where Devon and Chiamaka, two black students, are ensnared in a web of conspiracy threatening their very existence. Through its suspenseful narrative, this novel delves into themes of race, identity, and societal power dynamics, blending the allure of a thriller with incisive social commentary. 🌊 Venturing further, “Skin of the Sea” by Natasha Bowen immerses readers in a world where African folklore intertwines with mermaid myths, following Simi, a Mami Wata, as she defies oceanic laws to rescue a boy cast adrift from a slave ship. Amidst gods and monsters, this tale explores themes of courage, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of liberty. ✨ Lastly, “Lore of the Wilds” by Analeigh Sabrana beckons readers into a realm where ancient magic thrums and the wilderness holds untold power. Through Lyra’s eyes, a young woman bound to the untamed, readers embark on a quest blurring the boundaries between humanity and nature, unveiling the profound magic within the wild and within oneself. This enchanting narrative threads together ancient enchantments, personal revelations, and the eternal interplay of civilization and the wild. 📖 Each of these literary treasures offers a sojourn like no other, promising to paint indelible marks on the souls of those who dare to explore their pages. As the sun lingers longer and warmth fills the air, prepare to lose yourself in these captivating sagas, where the realms of imagination reign supreme. #ireadbooks #bibliophiles #bookpics #blackgirlsreadtoo #readblackauthors #blackfantasy #bookrecs

This book gutted me 😭 I 100% knew this going in but it hurt just the same. 🌾 Synopsis 🌾 A singular and stunning debut novel about the forbidden union between two enslaved young men on a Deep South plantation, the refuge they find in each other, and a betrayal that threatens their existence. Isaiah was Samuel’s and Samuel was Isaiah’s. That was the way it was since the beginning, and the way it was to be until the end. In the barn they tended to the animals, but also to each other, transforming the hollowed-out shed into a place of human refuge, a source of intimacy and hope in a world ruled by vicious masters. But when an older man—a fellow slave—seeks to gain favor by preaching the master’s gospel on the plantation, the enslaved begin to turn on their own. Isaiah and Samuel’s love, which was once so simple, is seen as sinful and a clear danger to the plantation’s harmony. 🌾🌾 Let say this first are foremost in my review… AMOS, RUTH, PAUL, AND TIMOTHY CAN ALL LINE UP AND FIGHT ME 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ Everyone else 🫶🏾 This is one of the books that I wanted to make sure that I read this year. Samuel and Isaiah felt larger than life and larger than the confines of slavery. My heart grew as I read their story and there parts I never wanted to end. The ending 😭😭😭😭😭 My main beef with this book is that you can tell the author was being try hard AF. Soon as I saw the Toni Morrison compressions I knew this was going to be overly worded when it wasn’t necessary. I was proven right as soon as I got to chapter 2. Also not every character needs a solo chapter. Again. NOT EVERY CHARACTER NEEDS A SOLO CHAPTER 🗣️ I honestly just needed Samuel and Isaiah’s POV. Because ultimately the story is about them. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 out of 5

Season of Secrets 🏒⛸️ by Dana LeeAnn & Melissa McSherry ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 This was a quick and spicy hockey read! I loved Duke and Aspens dynamic. They both knew what they wanted and didn’t take no for an answer. There were definitely a few questionable things that took place in the book. 😳 I’ve never thought to use a hockey stick or skates that way lol But seriously Duke, I encourage you to use a wash cloth, sponge or loofah next time! Just your hands and soap does not do the trick! Especially after hockey practice! Thank you Dana LeeAnn & Melissa McSherry for the ARC! Title: The Doctor’s Child by @danielhurstbooks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Daniel Hurst does it again! This series includes my favorite books by him, and this 4th and final installment in The Doctor’s Wife series did not disappoint! It gave everything I needed it to give. Fern and Alice are back and they each have a daughter. As their daughters turn 18, they want to go out and explore the world. Yet, thy are unaware of how their worlds are about to collide and be upended! While this can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the previous 3 books in the series for background information. This was the best book in the series! Hurst wrapped things up in a way that can leave no questions. I will miss these characters. I truly felt connected to them while reading this series. The author did a great job developing these characters and making you feel as though you knew them. The plot develops in true Daniel Hurst fashion - fast paced, action packed, short chapters that leave you wanting more, and a plethora of drama. He keeps the twists and turns coming at you furiously in this one, and I found myself on the edge of my seat, anxious for the outcome. I devoured this in one sitting. I will miss these characters and their antics, but I couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this series! Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for the #arc in exchange for my honest review. #readersofinstagram #bookshelf #bookworld #instaread #bookoftheday #booklife #booklover #booklovers #bookstagram #bookish #blackgirlsread #bookishgirl #booksofinstagram #readergirl #readerlife #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #read #reading #blackgirlsread #blackgirlsreadtoo #blackwomenreadtoo #bookrecommendations #bookstoread #arcreader #arcreaders #advancedreadercopy #advancedreaderscopy

Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions By: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Publish Date: February 2017 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This epistolary novel is about Chimamanda‘s childhood friend who has a newborn. She asked Chimamanda to write a letter to her newborn, teaching her to become a feminist. Chimamanda did so in 15 different suggestions. This was probably one of the only books that I finished in one sitting. Everything she said, it felt like she was reading my mind. I am a writer and reader and I am not easily impressed by words on paper. But Chimamanda blew my mind with this and then some. Feminism is such a subjective word to me. When I asked people what it meant, everybody had a different meaning and view. But the way Chimamanda broke it down in 15 different ways, it makes it much easier for me to understand. If all of Chimamanda‘s work is like this, then she got herself a fellow reader. I personally prefer books that feels like I am having a conversation with them and this book was just it. For all of my women out there, give this book a chance. You never know what gems you may find in here.

📚Book Club Pick📚 The year is 2172. Climate change and nuclear disasters have rendered much of earth unlivable. Only the lucky ones have escaped to space colonies in the sky. In a war-torn Nigeria, battles are fought using flying, deadly mechs and soldiers are outfitted with bionic limbs and artificial organs meant to protect them from the harsh, radiation-heavy climate. Across the nation, as the years-long civil war wages on, survival becomes the only way of life. Two sisters, Onyii and Ify, dream of more. Their lives have been marked by violence and political unrest. Still, they dream of peace, of hope, of a future together. And they’re willing to fight an entire war to get there. #blackgirlbookclub #blackbooktok #bookish #bookclubtiktok #podcastforblackwomen #podcast #blackbooktok #booksforblackwomen #healing #bookstagram #books #booklover #book #bookstagrammer #bookworm #reading #booknerd #bookaddict #bookish #bookaholic #literature #booksbyblackauthors #bookshelf #igreads #bookaddict #yabooks #booknerd #blackgirlsreadtoo #reader #readinglist #readersofinstagram
