🧶 Silas Marner by George Eliot 🧶 I found this 1948 Great Illustrated Classics of Silas Marner last year and knew it was meant to be. I had trepidation about reading another Eliot after my uninspired read of The Mill on the Floss, but I'm glad I found this book! I really enjoyed the actual story that was told. Silas' story versus Godfrey's was well juxtaposed and there was even a twist that I wasn't expecting, but was wondering when it would come back around. Elle Cosimano did it again with the fourth book in her Finlay Donovan series: Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice! my rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Let me start by saying I have LOVED this series since I first read the original Finlay Donovan is Killing It in 2022. It's such a unique premise, and I'm really drawn to the unlikely characters. Like most successors of really popular things, nothing can compare to the OG Finlay Donovan, but I really have grown to enjoy these character. To me, the highlights were: Kevin Bacon (IYKYK), Vero's reunion with her childhood love, some resolve with Stephen (Finlay's ex-husband) and Finlay's mom joining the party. I've always been a fan of Finlay + Nick, but I do wonder how much longer the series can go on without Finlay coming clean to her detective boyfriend 🤔 I don't see Nick as the crooked-cop type! This book took place in Atlantic City and I did really enjoy the change of scenery from the other FD books! I'm interested to know if there will be a #5. Nach dem überraschenden und emotionalen Ende des ersten Bandes befindet sich Sage nun am Scheideweg: Lässt sie sich von ihrer dunklen Vergangenheit einnehmen oder kämpft sie für ihre wahre Liebe? Und kann es noch einen Neuanfang geben, wenn so viel zwischen ihnen steht? Ich konnte es kaum erwarten, nach Berühre mich nicht, die Fortsetzung zu lesen. Ganz ehrlich, wer mag schon Cliffhanger? Bei diesem Band muss ich allerdings zugeben, dass ich von Sages’ Starrköpfigkeit und Selbstmitleid (in Bezug auf Luca natürlich) manchmal ziemlich genervt war. Etwas mehr Ehrlichkeit und Selbstbewusstsein in ihrem Umgang mit Luca wäre meiner Meinung nach durchaus angebracht gewesen im Hinblick auf die Fortschritte, die sie im ersten Band gemacht hat und vor allem auf die Nähe, die die beiden bis zum Schluss zu einander entwickelt haben. Die Art, wie sie ihn im Großteil des Buches im Dunkeln stehen lässt und wenig bis gar nicht mit ihm kommuniziert lässt natürlich Konflikte aufkeimen, die oft vermeidbar gewesen wären, Stichwort: Grace! Ich will Sage aber auch nicht komplett schlecht reden, denn das ist sie nicht, im Gegenteil. Zum Ende des Buches erleben wir noch eine tolle Charakterentwicklung, wie es sich jeder gebannte Leser nur wünschen kann! Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe I don't read a lot of graphic novels. I don't shun them. They just don't usually get me like books too. Again not a judgment call just me as a reader. But the graphic novels I do find that I like, I tend to really really like. Series like Saga or Sandman or Freak Angels or my guilty pleasure Lady Mechanika. And does Witch Hat atelier count? Is that more of manga than graphic novel? If it counts, add that to my favorites list as well. And just writing out that list gives me a little smile. Each of those are instances where storytelling and art combine and balance perfectly. And I'm adding to that list Lore Olympus. I don't remember why I picked this series up in the first place. I don't remember if it was a recommendation or I just saw the cover. It's definitely one of those gorgeous book covers that would have caught my eye. This series puts the myth of Persephone and Hades front and center. There are good side stories too but it’s mostly the Hades Persephone story. I'm far from an expert on Greek mythology, I love myths and folktales but for whatever reason I've always kind of avoided the Greek ones. So I can't really say if it's an accurate retelling or not. I get the feeling the heart of it is there but the details have been changed. First off, the artwork in these books is just beautiful. Gorgeous. Just flipping through and looking at the images is enough to give this series all the stars. And the story starts a little cliche. Not bad, just probably a story you've read if you read enemies to lovers type stories. But it's very sweet and enchanting and wonderful all the same. And then somewhere between the second and third volume the story deepens. Not that the plot thickens. But the depth of the characters, their relationships and the emotions in the story deepen so so much. And by the time you get to the end of the 4th volume you will have feels. Lots and lots of feels. Good ones bad ones conflicted ones but they're all going to be deep ones. I love everything about this series and I'm both looking forward to, and dreading, the last volume coming later this year.

april photo dump & reading wrap up ☔️☀️💜💐 books read: just for the summer by abby jimenez ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 wild love by elsie silver ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 funny story by emily henry ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5 def was a busy month & books weren’t hitting (until funny story) i finished funny story a couple of days ago and LOVED it. genuinely everything to me and i really haven’t been loving books recently so this was such a breath of fresh air. i rated it 4.5 and rounded it down to 4⭐️ bc of a few little things i would have changed but i keep thinking abt it and rlly wanna reread my physical copy and annotate soon so i feel like i may bump it up to 5⭐️. unfortunately wild love and just for the summer were misses for me and maybe it was partially right book wrong time bc I know so many ppl loved them but i am just not sure… i am about 30% through the paradise problem by christina lauren (ARC) and tbh i am liking it? i had low expectations bc other than love and other words i don’t love their books but this one is kind of giving just classic rom com vibes w a quirky fmc but in a way i am kind of enjoying. we shall see if this continues! LOL life update today is my last day of classes for my sophomore year of college! Y debe abrazar la magia que le han enseñado a suprimir toda su vida, sin importar lo que cueste. 📖Como en todos los libros de fantasía los primeros capitulos son más que nada introducción, conocer los personajes, el worldbuilding, etc... pero la espera fue tan larga que a momentos sentía que el libro no me iba a terminar gustando mucho pero me equivoqué, la otra mitad del libro cambió por completo mi punto de vista. 📖La protagonista tuvo mucho desarrollo de personaje a lo largo de la historia, cambió mucho mi opinión sobre ella hacia el final del libro. En cuanto a los personajes secundarios no se puede decir mucho ya que el foco está sobre la protagonista demasiado en mi opinión, me hubiera gustado más desarrollo de ellos o quizá más aporte a la trama en futuros libros. 📖Por otro lado decirles que me encantó como se fue desarrollando la historia, nos van mostrando que no es más de lo mismo, que tienes que verlo con otros ojos porque va más allá de lo que puedes ver en la superficie. Hej 💙 Kiedy ten czas zleciał? Jutro 1 maja... Jakie macie plany na majówkę? Współpraca barterowa z @wydawnictwoluna Miałam napisaną na kartce recenzję Pastwy, ale jak zwykle gdzieś posiałam i muszę wyrzeźbić coś na nowo. Juz sama okładka i jej kolor zachęciły mnie do lektury, oraz poprzednia książka autorki W cieniu góry, która bardzo mi się podobała. To drugi tom serii o sprawach komisarz Soni Kranz, która stara się pogodzić życie samotnej matki po rozwodzie, a byciem policjantką. Jest taka jak każda z nas, próbuje być najlepsza w każdej z życiowych ról i przeżywa swoje wzloty i upadki. Tym razem zajmuje się sprawą zaginionego świeżeo upieczonego męża Waldemara Wilskiego, przyszłego spadkobiercę zakładu mięsnego. Pierwszy cień podejrzenia pada na młodą żonę, która prawdopodobnie mogła dużo zyskać po jego zniknięciu. Jednak na jaw wychodzą różne sekrety z jego życia, które miały nie ujrzeć światła dziennego, a sprawa jego zaginięcia staje się coraz bardziej skomplikowana. Mam wrażenie, że autorka jak nikt potrafi o sprawach makabrycznych i obrzydliwych, pisać lekko i przystępnie. To jest rodzaj rodzaj pióro, która trzyma czytelnika w ciągłym zainteresowaniu. Nie ma zbędnych opisów czy przemyśleń głównej bohaterki. Wszystko kręci się wokół śledztwa i życia prywatnego Pani Komisarz. Oba te wątki były równie interesujące. Autorce udało się mnie zaskoczyć, nie spodziewałam się tego, kto okaże się sprawcą i jakie będą jego motywy. To właśnie one najbardziej mną wstrząsnęły, bowiem nie mieści mi się w głowie, jak można coś takiego zrobić drugiemu człowiekowi, który powinien być Twoją opoką i bezpieczną przystanią... Jak już wcześniej wspomniałam oprócz warstwy kryminalnej, jest też bardzo rozbudowane tło obyczajowe ukazujące nie tylko życie prywatne Sonii Kranz, ale również skomplikowane relacje w domu Wilskich na przestrzeni lat. Direkt Gegenüber gibt's ein Italienisches Restaurant und nun zum wesentlichen ..in beiden Restaurants ist ein Mensch ums Leben gekommen, aber warum??? Diesem Rätsel gehen Camilla, Chefin des veganen Restaurants und Peppino, Koch, aber eigentlich Kriminalbeamter, des italienischen Restaurants auf dem Grund! Das ist ein CozyCrime Roman ganz nach meinem Geschmack. Ich bin so durch die Seiten geflogen und was am Ende bei rumgekommen ist, uiuiui...ich wär nicht drauf gekommen...
