I actually watched this on April Fools Day unintentionally which was crazy, but I’m still processing my feelings for this movie… so please don’t hate me for my initial thoughts 🙈. Slaughter High is an 80’s low budget, high school slasher about a nerdy kid who gets revenge on his bullies one year after the day they pull a prank on him that nearly kills him. Now for starters, the acting is bad and the dialogue is cheesy; I don’t think there was one character that was very likable, so I was definitely rooting for the killer (which by the way, has a creepy looking mask) lol. The actors playing teens also look like they’re in their 30’s, I honestly thought they were teachers/staff at first 😅. Unfortunately, the actor who played “Marty” passed away shortly after the release of this film, and I will say his performance was the best and over the top! The kills are ok; Some were unique, while others were weak/boring. I tried not taking this one too seriously, but there are tons of noticeable continuity errors. I enjoyed the last 15/20 mins of the film, it has a decent chase scene, and a surprisingly creepy final 5 mins. Overall, a fun hidden April Fools Day Slasher that made me laugh a few times at its absurdity. This is also streaming on #Tubi if you’re interested. —Any fans of Slaughter High?— ________________ (Would I recommend/rewatch this?) -If I were to rewatch this, it would be with a group of friends on April 1st. I feel like the fool for this weekends movie pick, as I should have added it last week in time for April Fool's Day...better late than never! Released in 1986 and originally filmed under the title April Fool's Day: Slaughter High tells the tale of an April Fool's joke gone wrong and the retribution that follows. Many years after high school nerd Marty is pranked and severely disfigured (in one of the most savage and humiliating double pranks of all time), the perpetrators get mysterious invitations to attend a high school reunion. However when they arrive they discover the school has been long abandoned and it seems they have walked into a trap set by their old pal Marty. This is a seriously underrated slasher which deserves way more recognition. The killer looks fantastic, the practical effects and kills are suitably gruesome and it's a highly fun and entertaining watch, oozing with 80's cheese. Special mention to the wonderful and beautiful Caroline Munro who is as great as ever. Tis the season! Three excellent choices for anyone looking for that holiday horror today. Slaughter High is great, Killer Party is even better imo. But April Fool's Day just can't be topped if you ask me! Not only do we get Amy Steel as Ginny Redux, a true gift unto itself, but we also get a ridiculously likable cast (including hot as fu*k Chaz, swoon), some fantastic set up, & a pay off that makes this one pretty divisive in the horror community, but an ending I think is incredible & keeps this one in a league of its own. Slaughter High (1986) Such a stupid and ridiculous premise. The inciting HS "pranks" are SA at best and homicidal at worst. The only likeable character is the janitor who dies almost instantly. I'm not even rooting for the killer who isn't given a character trait outside of pathetic and psychotic. On the plus side the acting is awful in the best way. Most of the kills are creative even if they mostly don't make sense. And It was shot and lit well for a b-movie of the era.
