Um espaço composto por terras de cultivo de centeio, vinhas e casas de quinteiro, situado em Carvalhal Formoso, perto de Belmonte, numa zona agreste de solos graníticos pobres e de paisagem lindíssima, exposto a sul, com condições excepcionais para o cultivo das vinhas. A Quinta dos Termos tem atualmente cerca de 180 ha e dispõe de uma área vitícola em produção com 54 ha de castas selecionadas, entre elas as tintas Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro Preto, Tinta Roriz, Trincadeira Preta, Jaen, Rufete, Marufo, Baga, Sangiovese, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Tinto Cão, Vinhão e as brancas Síria, Fonte Cal e Riesling. Según yo -que nada sé- no se encuentra en ellos una regularidad tan marcada como en los españoles, por ejemplo. Siempre hay sorpresas aguardando en las diversas regiones. Como este Batasiolo ya estaba cercano a cumplir sus 20 años, lo puse a respirar un buen rato antes de probarlo. Ya desde el decantador, su color teja oscuro prometía un montón. Lo probé pasadas dos horas y aún no había despertado: en nariz y boca prevalecía el roble y no mucho más, pero se sentía que aún tenía mucho más por decir. A las tres horas lo probé de nuevo y, mamita querida, qué vino. Bien seco, bien tánico, bien sereno. La madera cedió ante la pimienta, la vainilla y el cuero. Con un poco de chocolate con naranja terminó de expresarse y de presumir que es un vinazo. No recuerdo el precio exacto, pero sí que fue una ganga. Algo alrededor de los 1000 MXN. Nasu - Tochigi - Japan Today’s Onsen: Nasu Onsen Shika-no-yu, located in Tochigi Prefecture of Japan - 200km north of Tokyo, was opened in the early 7th century during the reign of Emperor Jomei. A man named Kano Saburo Yukihiro was hunting in the mountains when he chased a deer that had escaped after he failed to shoot, and the deer was healing its wounded body in the hot spring. He named the hot spring "Shika-no-yu (meaning Deer's Onsen)," discovered by the deer. During the Edo period (1603-1867), feudal lords residing in Edo often went to Nasu Onsen for hot-spring therapy. The rustic wooden structure seems to have defied time, giving visitors the feeling of time-traveling to the original Japanese landscape of 1300 years back. Very near Shika-no-you, several B&Bs allow access to Taki-no-you, a community spa with the same spring quality as Shika-no-yu. Fujitaya, a mid-sized family owned B&B but the largest in the community, is a pleasant choice as seasonal dishes and wildflowers welcome you. Today’s wine: Itamurogne Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay 2022, Itamuro, Nasushobara, Japan: The wine is pale lemon. On the nose, it has a medium intensity and is youthful. The aromas are of green apple, grapefruit, lime, passion fruit and grass. On the palate, it is dry with high acidity, medium alcohol, and medium(-) body. It has a medium flavor intensity and medium finish. The flavor are of grapefruits, and grass. The wine is good. An interesting pick up from @bws_au this 2019 Pinot Noir from France is part of a series of wines from around the world. Red fruit flavours of cherry, strawberry, and plum, with plenty of succulent strawberry on the nose, and dried garden herbs (a little bay leaf, some oregano) make for a smooth and easy drinking red wine. I really get the sense that the flavours will deepen with this drop, so as always, I'll be saving the second half for tomorrow evening. Sir-Mix-Alot is assisting me with steamed tortellini in a tomato cream sauce (with bacon added of course) with plenty of herbs, though you could hardly put a foot wrong with a wine pairing here.
