When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” Do you ever feel you are drowning (in even 2 inches of water) and the river is raging with a current and turbulence so strong you cannot tread, let alone keep your head above the foam? Do you ever fear even the slightest flicker of a flame so much that the smell of smoke suffocates you and the flame turns into a wildfire that spreads and burns for days? Yes, you do, and so do I. YET we have a Savior that has never left. All we had to do is reach for the safety of a lifeline. He was THERE and we did not drown. The fire was truly just a flame that He easily would have snuffed out, had we asked. We didn’t have to get burned. We never should have felt consumed. HOWEVER, we have felt this and we probably will again. WHY? Because we were created to need a Savior. We were created with excellence yet with an innate need for God. His mercies are new every morning and it is why we are NOT consumed. His compassions will never fail us. His faithfulness ~ we cannot even fathom its greatness. He IS our portion ~ we get ALL He has! It's been a very troubling weekend so far for Catholics. I have so many thoughts and feelings that I was tempted to share, and maybe I will sometime soon. But tonight I fled to God's word, and of course, He led me to perfect comfort and wisdom that I want to share. What underlies everything for us is f a i t h. Time after time God calls us to be faithful. On the raging waters, in the endless desert, in the midst of death, trust in Him. Everything can be overcome if we believe in Him and follow His law. Listen Up! Let this be the year you step into the fullness of every single thing that God has put in you. If you are writing a book, step into the fullness of it. 04 December: Nobody ever said being a follower of Christ would be easy or without issues. Throughout scripture we read accounts of Christ followers being beaten, shipwrecked, sold, wandering in the wilderness, betrayed, and even killed. • While it is not always easy it is comforting to know and believe, and sometimes we need a little reminding, about how even in the midst of the trials and difficult times God is always with us. He will never leave us or forsake us. We live in a fallen and broke world which means bad things will happen. But God.... Oh how I love the but God moments of life. God is working behind the scenes, in a way only He can, to work ALL things for good (Romans 8:28). • Grab a pen and piece of paper and reflect on some of the high water/fire moments if your life. Ask God to show you how He was protecting you, even when it felt like He may not have been around. Ask God to show you how He has used those moments to allow His light to shine through you. Have you ever imagined drowing, In a wild and stormy sea? Fighting for air as the tide drags you under, Longing to be free! Imagine the pressure mounting, the water filling your lungs. You see the surface and swim for your life, But another wave just comes! Imagine these sensations, But instead of raging seas. You are safe inside your home or work, When your body decides to freeze! Just like the disciples in Luke 8:24 , you may feel like you're going to drown. You may be in real danger. But you are not going to drown. Have faith! Jesus is with you and He will help you with whatever it is that you are going through. He tells the ocean waves you can only go this far and they listen. He tells the sun when to rise and it rises. I thought my difficult circumstances were the CAUSE of my all emotional drowning. It wasn't my circumstances at all, but the death-grip of CONTROL I held over every scenario which created my lead shoes. I had to pry my fingers loose. I had to give up control!!!! BUT the moment did, the moment I let go, the moment I became obedient to God and said I am not in control and I AM NOT ALONE. My dread fell away. I caught my breath. My feet touched the bottom. This is me and my big sister when we were on a family road trip from Minnesota to Wyoming. She lost her beloved husband less than a month ago to aggressive cancer. We are all trying so hard to move forward. Life is a river. Always changing. Darwin's survival of the fittest refers to the necessity to adapt in order to survive. We have two choices: 1) fight change and be the rock in the river bed trying to stand still... You will just be worn down and eventually be broken by the water. OR 2) embrace change and float like a leaf on the river... You will remain intact, feel the warm sun on your face, and even though you will go through some bumpy, scary spots, you will not drown.
