It’s been a while. Is this the current state of affairs post Cape Town. Where I lost approx 5kg. I knew I was getting leaner, but didn’t expect to have lost that much. But it was inevitable when my energy expenditure was so high. Daily training and 20-30k steps. So what’s next? A big part of being a hybrid athlete is being fit, strong, fast and in shape. The biggest area I’m lacking at the moment is strength. So the plan is to make it a strength. Make my strength a strength - nice vocabulary Josh. 4 plate deadlift. 3 plate squat. 3 plate reverse lunge. 2.5 bench bench. 15 chest to bar pull ups. Back to basics. Whilst in the background working towards a sub 40 minutes 10km. Initially this is going to happen with 3 gym sessions per week and 3 runs per week. This alongside a slight calorie surplus at around ~3,200 cals per day, will see me add muscle tissue and support my recovery. The hybrid lifestyle continues. I’m excited for the next phase. Another week in the books▶️\n\nHope everyone had a great week, here’s just a little slice of mine since coming back to work. \n\n1️⃣- Friday Ruck Workout. \n\n2️⃣- Since back to work, it’s back to packing meals. This is 3\/5 meals for the day\n\n3️⃣- Rare footage stumbling on the banjo. Our bodies constantly want to return to a state of equilibrium which is not necessarily what is best, it is what’s familiar. This can put it into a state called hormesis which means that your body will be complacent if you don’t give it tension and agitation ( work harder and live longer). In short, our bodies constantly need a bone to chew on. When we get to a state where we relax and stop working towards a greater goal our bodies are more likely to find mental health struggles. As we push ourselves constantly mentally and physically we experience what’s called eustress- positive stress that is helpful for the body, having a sense of perceived effort increases your blood pressure, pain tolerance, and overall health. #hybridbuild #hybridathlete #run #lifting #exercise #goonemore #nickbare

Week 1 de kou trotseren! 🥶 De week van de marathontraining ging van start. Dit was ook mijn eerste werkweek na een paar weken vaderschapsverlof. 👶🏽 Het gebrek aan slaap mocht gelukkig niet mijn trainingen verstoren. Normaal gesproken is mijn prioriteit 8 uur slaap. Nu met 2-3 uur minder slaap is er tijdens de training geen gebrek aan energie.🔋 Merendeels van de trainingen bestond uit kilometers lopen op een makkelijk tempo. Zolang ik een gesprek met mezelf kon houden wist ik dat ik in de juiste zone zat. ⌚️ In de interval liep ik m'n snelste 2 mijl, voelde toch als een overwinning. Dit zal niet elke week zo zijn maar elke kleine verbetering gaat bijdragen aan de marathon. 🏁 In week 2 gaan de kilometers langzaam omhoog en worden de grenzen weer verlegd! 💪🏽 Stay tuned! ⚡️

Marathon prep 2.0❗️ In oktober liep ik mijn allereerste marathon. Het doel was om dit succesvol te lopen met een grijns op mijn gezicht aan de finishlijn. 😁 Dit keer is het doel anders, ik heb namelijk hulp ingeschakeld. Met een nieuw trainingsschema door @coachkevinnicola ga ik de komende 16 weken hard aan het werk om het volgende doel te halen. En dat is een Sub 4:30 op de Marathon van Enschede. 🥇 Vorig jaar liep ik hier de halve en nu kom ik terug voor de hele Marathon. 🏃🏾‍♂️ Lets's do this! 🏁

2024 is begonnen en het doel is om beter te worden dan het afgelopen jaar. 🎆 Voor de aankomende marathon heb ik een nieuwe tijd in gedachten die ik wil halen. M'n vorige doelstelling was lachend over de finish gaan. Nu gaan we voor een sub 4:30 marathon! 💨 In de gym wil ik weer terugkomen op oud niveau. Vorig jaar lag de focus op het behalen van de marathon en nu gaan we het lichaam aansterken om dat doel te behalen. 💪🏽 Afgelopen paar jaar heb ik ontzettend geëxperimenteerd met voeding. Van Vegan naar vegetarisch en weer terug naar het eten van alles. Wat voor mij werkt is 70% animal based denk hierbij aan vlees, eieren, rauwe zuivel. En de overige 30% aan pure onbewerkte voeding. 🐄 Een koude douche is de basis van mijn ochtendritueel. Alleen soms is het ook gewoon lekker om wel een keer warm te douchen. Ik wil daarin mezelf in blijven uitdagen het oncomfortabele op te zoeken. Hetzelfde geld voor m'n schermtijd meer boeken gaan lezen en met m'n naasten tijd spenderen. 📖 Last but not least, iets wat m'n aandacht trekt is trailrunning los ervan dat het voelt als vroeger om lekker de bossen in te duiken en de mooie natuur te bezichtigen wil ik hier een begin in maken. 🌲 Wat zijn jouw doelen dit jaar?

Today’s Speed Workout: •2 miles + strides; •6 miles at 6:35 pace; Jog 3:00; •6 x 2:30 FAST/2:30 EASY •2 miles easy During the 6 mile segment my paces were 6:31, 6:28, 6:29, 6:29, 6:27 & 6:30. The full workout ended up being a total of 14.43 miles. Afterwards I had to send coach @jdcunningham97 a text for the great workout. Regen op koud asfalt 🌧️ Het is alweer een maand geleden sinds de marathon. En ik ben voor mijn gevoel weer doorgegaan op het pad waar ik gebleven was. De herfst is een mooie periode van het jaar om te lopen. Na een lange warme periode merk je in het najaar hoe gemakkelijker het word met lage temperaturen. De overgang naar de wintertijd is altijd even wennen. Je staat op als het donker is en je gaat naar huis als het donker is. Maar ik blijf zeggen blijf consistent! In januari ga ik weer van start met een nieuwe marathon prep. Stay tuned ‼️

Where do reps and weight have to go to reach your goals? The relationship between more reps and muscular endurance when building a stronger or heavier bench press is very important. Endurance allows you to not only do more, but to do more reps faster (less rest) since the cardio help with allow your muscle to recover quicker. Embarking on a journey of determination and resilience, I pushed my body and mind to the limit, crossing the finish line of the Hartford Marathon (1st Marathon)(26.2 miles) in 𝟐 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬, 𝟓𝟔 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟏𝟗 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬 yesterday. The countless hours of training, the early mornings, and the sacrifices were all worth it for this moment. It's a testament to the power of setting goals, staying focused, and never giving up.

With that said, I learned running a marathon is not just about physical endurance; it's a mental battle as well. With every step, I challenged my inner doubts of wether I would complete a sub 3hr marathon and pushed through the pain when it got tough. The cheers from the crowd, the camaraderie among fellow runners, and the unwavering support from loved ones fueled my determination to keep going.

While my eyes were fixed on the ticking clock, my journey went beyond mere numbers; it represented the culmination of months of hard work, discipline, and sacrifice. It's a reminder that we are capable of achieving greatness when we set our minds to it. 
I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to experience this incredible journey. It has taught me the importance of perseverance, self-belief, and the joy of pushing beyond my limits. Feeling accomplished with today's performance. The workout included: - 2 miles easy - 6 miles @ 6:20 min/mile pace - 2 miles easy (Total = 10 miles) My times for the 6 mile segment were 6:18, 6:15, 6:23, 6:17, 6:19, 6:24. This resulted in an average pace of 6:20 min/mile for those 6 miles. Now there are only 10 days remaining until marathon day and I have just a few more workouts to go. LFG! Second 1/2 Marathon in the books this morning at 1:28:29 (6:48 pace min/mile). First 1/2 Marathon back in May 2023 was at 1:42:22, which makes today about a 14 min PR. All I can say is I’m super happy with this outcome. Not only is it more data to show progress is being made, but it’s proof that I’m headed in the right direction. 6 weeks out! Nog 2 weken keihard werken en dan begint het taperen. De fundering is bijna klaar voor de race. Een jaar geleden kon ik dit alleen nog maar zeggen. Ik ga de marathon doen en nu is het bijna zover. Als ik m'n gedachten op iets zet dan wil ik het doen. En door concrete doelen op te stellen, consistent te blijven en de Wil om te slagen gaat dit me lukken. Nog even en dan gaat het beginnen! Stay tuned 🫡

Wow, what a great weekend of adventures & eats with my girl (part 10 already wow.) 1. Starting it out with an easy 5.4 mile run, running on heavily cracking & blistering toes, but who cares? Suck it up, get to work. 🏃 2. A light Friday night dinner, some protein pasta salad, very low calorie. 🥗 3. Saw lightly salted rice cake bars on tik tok, made them. Put my own cinnamon peanut buttery twist on them. 🥜 4. Was feeling spooky, made some pumpkin purée/spice overnight oats for a Saturday breakfast. 🎃 5. Hit a workout, then needed to refuel. Egg white wraps, with turkey bacon, egg whites and veggies, and some raspberries. 🥓 6. No more crap meat from the supermarket. Starting to strictly buy from local farms/meat markets. Got a ton of goodies from our local meat market, the quality is so much better I can’t believe it. 🥩 7. Wound up at a winery/apple orchard. Had a few samples, my first alcohol in a while. Enjoyed some quality time with my girl, well worth it. 🍎 8. Finally made the Big Mac tacos. Let’s just say, these did not disappoint, paired with zucchini & a sweet potato. 🍔 9. One of the best anabolic breakfasts I’ve made, ever. Pumpkin cinnamon French toast, so fluffy, so good. Cinnamon glaze, maple syrup Canadian bacon. Made the recipe up myself. 🍂 10. Created a Korean glaze for some beef & chicken, cooked up some basmati rice, paired with sesame honey ginger green beans & carrots. 7 weeks out! Afgelopen tijd even stil geweest met een goede reden. Ben al 7 weken ontzettend hard aan het trainen voor de marathon. Voor m'n gevoel ben ik nog nooit zo fit geweest zoals ik me nu voel. Met nog 7 weken te gaan ga ik alles uit de kast halen om lachend over de finish te gaan. Allerbelangrijkste geniet van het moment want het is zo voorbij!
