Unintentionallly my fourth Walter Hill direction of the month, Action April movie #29 is 48 Hrs. (1982) - I'd only ever caught bits and pieces of this over the years on late-night TV, so it felt like time to check it out properly. "I been in prison for three years, my dick gets hard if the wind blows" Nick Nolte (Blue Chips) is a hardnosed cop with a grudge, relying on freshly-loaned-out-from-prison Eddie Murphy (Trading Places) to help him bust a brutally violent pair of hoods in the grimy streets and seedy clubs of grimy San Francisco. "You said bullshit and experience is all it takes right? Come and experience my bullshit" Credited with starting the buddy-cop genre, I assumed this would lean more heavily into comedy than it does, given Murphy's presence (this also being his rather impressive screen debut), but it's much grittier than expected. "Class isn't something you buy. Look at you, you've got on a 500-dollar suit and you're still a low-life." "Yeah, but I look good!" Small, fun roles from Annette O'Toole (IT '90), Denise 'Tasha Yar' Crosby (Star Trek:TNG), Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad) and a porkier-than-usual but excellently moustachioed favourite Brion James (Blade Runner). "At least nobody callin' you shit-head." "I may call you worse than THAT." And he does! Nolte's character isnt even supposed to be racist in comparison to others in the plot, but still spouts lines like "charcoal-coloured loser" and "spear-chucker" at Murphy like it's nothing. The 80's, folks! Despite this, the chemistry between our leads is charming and believable throughout. "I'm not goin' in for all that macho shit, Jack. I was great. Should have my dick bronzed." It's a cliché but the city does as much character work as anyone else here, and is used to great effect. James Horner was obviously super into steel drums in the early 80's, as his soundtrack here is just as heavy with them as it was for Commando. Overall far better than I was expecting. "Cabo do Medo" é um suspense intrigante sobre obsessão em um jogo de manipulação muito bem construído. Desde o início, com o maravilhoso tema sonoro, ele nos apresenta sua atmosfera sombria; algo ruim está por vir. A psicopatia de Max é interpretada de maneira absurdamente amedrontadora por De Niro; seus trejeitos, sua perseguição e sede de vingança cativam a partir da primeira cena. Enquanto temos uma completa aversão à sociopatia do antagonista, sentimos uma certa lástima por ele, uma alma atormentada. Admito ser divertido ver esse personagem tocando o terror na família. Outra que rouba a cena é a filha, uma inocente com desejos engarrafados, vivida brilhantemente por Juliette Lewis. A obra tem toda uma construção em cada personagem contornando um grande problema que era recorrente no filme de 1962, porém o remake acabou deixando seu protagonista covarde. O brilhante uso das cores, a edição retrocedendo e o filtro negativo demonstram que essas brincadeiras visuais de Scorsese só alimentam um sentimento de estranheza e aflição sobre a sádica história. Seu desfecho tem um final mais que arrebatador, te faz pensar por dias, como um suspense repleto de adrenalina escapista. Bornedal reinterpreta su obra con un elenco más reconocido y un estilo visual distinto aunque respetando su esencia. Una película digna de una nueva entrega del #thrillerday Porque aunque contenga elementos del cine de terror, su guión se mueve más en los parámetros del thriller. Un guión bien construido, que te ofrece varios sospechosos antes del giro final. En su aspecto narrativo es una cinta bastante entretenida, que discurre rápida y que además engancha. Pero también engancha gracias a esa ambientación de los fríos pasillos de la morgue donde trabaja de noche el protagonista. Unos pasillos tan carentes de alma como los que descansan en sus habitaciones. Atmósfera y música a veces recuerdan a Seven. Su elenco lo componen Ewan Mcgregor (Doctor Sueño), Nick Nolte (El cabo del miedo), Josh Brolin (Sicario), Patricia Arquette (Boyhood), Lauren Graham (Las chicas Gilmore, serie TV), Brad Dourif (El Señor de los Anillos: Las Dos Torres), Lonny Chapman (Los Pájaros), Alix Koromzay (The Haunting) y John C Reilly (La tormenta perfecta). Valoración 6,5/10. Desconozco cómo será la original pero como suele ocurrir apostaría a que supera al remake, aun siendo éste del mismo director. I've been saying this a lot but... what a cast! A few real favourites of mine here in this hard-hitting action-neo-western-thriller. "You know, Jack. I got a feeling the next time we run into each other, we gonna have a killin'." Near the Mexican border in Texas, Ranger Nick Nolte (Cape Fear) takes on old friend turned cartel leader Powers Boothe (Tombstone) with the help and/or hindrance of an A-Team style black ops 'Zombie' unit: Michael Ironside (Total Recall), Clancy Brown (Highlander), William Forsythe (The Rock), sheriff Rip Torn (Beastmaster), and wife Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man).
