Melvin Van Peebles (born Melvin Peebles; August 21, 1932 – September 21, 2021) was an American actor, filmmaker, writer, and composer. He worked as an active filmmaker into the 2000s. His feature film debut, The Story of a Three-Day Pass (1967), was based on his own French-language novel La Permission and was shot in France, as it was difficult for a black American director to get work at the time. The film won an award at the San Francisco International Film Festival which gained him the interest of Hollywood studios, leading to his American feature debut Watermelon Man, in 1970. Eschewing further overtures from Hollywood, he used the successes he had so far to bankroll his work as an independent filmmaker. In 1971, he released his best-known work, creating and starring in the film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, considered one of the earliest and best-regarded examples of the blaxploitation genre. He followed this up with the musical, Don't Play Us Cheap, based on his own stage play, and continued to make films, write novels and stage plays in English and in French through the next several decades; his final films include the French-language film Le Conte du ventre plein (2000) and the absurdist film Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha (2008). His son, filmmaker, and actor #mariovanpeebles appeared in several of his works and portrayed him in the 2003 biographical film Baadasssss!. Terry Carter was celebrated for his contributions to education, media, acting, and as a civil rights activist. Carter's early work as a newscaster began in 1965 when he joined WBZ-TV in Boston as a weekend anchor-reporter. He made history as one of the first Black television newsmen in the world. He felt he was fired from the station because of his civil rights work, which sparked his lifelong dedication to community work and helping generations of journalists of color. Carter starred in the 1973 Blaxploitation film Brother on the Run and portrayed Pam Grier's boyfriend in Foxy Brown. In the late '70s, Carter also portrayed second-in-command Colonel Tigh on the sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica and Sgt. Joe Broadhurst, McCloud partner, for seven seasons. In 1975, Carter founded Meta/4 Productions, a company dedicated to producing educational documentaries and presentations. Through Meta/4 Productions, Carter created impactful works such as "Katherine Dunham Technique" and "A Duke Named Ellington," the latter earning an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Informational Special." His dedication to educational content was part of his broader commitment to civil rights and social justice. John Everett DeCoste was born on December 16, 1928, and passed away on April 23, 2024, at 95. His life was dedicated to supporting the Black community with jobs and opportunities. Thus, he left many people in all areas of the industry working to follow in his footsteps, building on his work to enact social change. A native New Yorker, he got his start on the stages of his hometown, starring opposite Eartha Kitt in Broadway’s MRS. PATTERSON, among other roles. Carter also worked as an anchorman and film critic on Boston TV in the ‘60s; some sources cite him as the first Black on-air news host. His television work as an actor included stints on “The Phil Silvers Show,” “Combat!,” “McCloud,” and “Battlestar Galactica.” Carter also turned in memorable performances in classic films such as ABBY, FOXY BROWN and BENJI. He later parlayed his Hollywood career into film production, garnering several Emmys for his industrial and educational projects. Поначалу этот персонаж являл собой типичного героя фильмов жанра #blaxploitation (фильмы, ориентированные на чёрную городскую аудиторию) в период американского кинематографа, когда на экраны выходили картины вроде «Свит Свитбэк: Песня мерзавца» (Мелвин Ван Пибблз, 1971) или «Шафт» (Гордон Паркс, 1971). - Фамилию этого героя комиксов Николас Кейдж взял себе в качестве псевдонима, потому что не хотел использовать в своей карьере актёра фамилию своего знаменитого дяди — Фрэнсиса Форда Копполы. По сюжету комиксов Карл Лукас был сложным подростком, так как вырос в самом опасном и преступном районе Нью-Йорка — в Гарлеме. У него был лучший друг Уиллис Страйкер. На утро полицейские обнаружили рубашку Лукаса с дырками от пуль и решили, что он мёртв. Чтобы скрываться, будучи на свободе, он взял себе новое имя — Люк Кейдж. Случайно увидев однажды, как вор грабит ресторан, Люк поймал вора и вернул награбленное.
