We had a very busy weekend! Back to back days of exciting & fun things. Sounds great right? And it was. But it was also a lot of me having to tell Leo not to touch things or not to play with things the way he wants to, to stay near me. So we had a few meltdowns this weekend. That’s being said, I am so proud of how we got through them. For the most part, Leo bounced back quick and was able to be redirected which is a huge accomplishment for him. We were able to sit down, calm our breathing and find a different way of getting what we want. I am also really proud of myself this weekend. There did come a time when both kids were completely over it. Screaming, crying and flailing in a very public place. In the past, I would have been mortified. This time, as everyone was loaded in the car heading home, I realized the thought of the strangers witnessing this tough moment didn’t even enter my mind. My kids were safe, we had a human moment and we were moving on. Some amazing wins from my team over the last fortnight!🥳 @fern.lily has been training so hard for the London Marathon this weekend, running her furthest runs ever and getting them in no matter the weather/how busy she’s been. Raising money for MS Society, I couldn’t be prouder! Go Fern, you’ve got this!🏃🏻♀️ @jacquilofthouse returned from India, having hosted a writer’s retreat from her clients, and still stayed active by going on long forest hikes and yoga at 6:30am in the mornings!🇮🇳 @emilyyyyoung also stayed active whilst away on her holiday to Paris, getting a couple of runs in there, but also didn’t feel guilty about not being able to get workouts in, which has been a hugely positive mindset shift🇫🇷 @wizzt85 has done amazing with still getting workouts in even though it’s been tough with kids off, plus she’s been rehearsing hard for her dance show this weekend!💃🏻 @leighh_27 has been working long hours but still getting those workouts done + can now balance on all of her single leg deadlifts (when they used to be v wobbly!) @amylian92 has been making more time for her own self care, prioritising herself and focusing on destressing techniques, which is v important when she works as a nanny! @jodiealbiston has been getting out and riding her horse even though the weather has been rubbish. Plus she’s noticing her relationship with food is improving, becoming more mindful. @yuillleeann has been getting her workouts done even though she’s so busy, and has noticed her fitness improving: “I managed to walk some stairs and not feel like I need CPR!” @beabbargh has been poorly, but has got straight back into the swing of things when she felt better + did an amazing 7km run the other day! @_emmagarrett has managed to increase the reps on all her exercises! @__sharon.marie_ is doing amazing training for her solo Hyrox event in May! Focusing on excellent nutrition and getting her workouts done, whilst also working a v busy job! @susie_cradock is noticing her strength growing massively, increasing her weights on leg days and she managed 4x6 unassisted pull ups @smidders74 has noticed her strength increase-PB of 37kg for clean and press! Celebrating the big little things today 🥳 Big shout out for Mr B who ran his first ParkRun in several months today. A knee injury has had him out of action for a while, so he’s been upping his ParkRun volunteer stint and keeping up with regular physio instead. He also completed the #londonlandmarkshalfmarathon last weekend 👏 (as a walk instead of a run….well bar the last 50metres or so!). 🤞 Hopefully, the first of many this year. Celebrated my 300th ride on the bike today 🙌 I don’t typically track workouts (I know it’s weird conskdering I track all other body related metrics). For me, exercising is so ingrained into who I am know now, it just feels automatic. Like showering or brushing my teeth. That wasn’t always the case for this serial quitter though. I worked hard building this habit over many years and it certainly has had its ups and downs. For a while there recently I was in too much pain to do much so I never take movement for granted, ever! So yeah, seeing the high fives on the screen and the 300th badge pop up…well maybe today I’ll look at this workout as extra special and celebrate it! It sure did give me a little push to crush today’s 60 minute ride. Don’t ever give up my friends! Keep doing the work and celebrate the victories. You deserve it!
Sometimes when I look at my finished painting words or phrases pop into my head. This beauty I heard ‘Celebrate the moments of Light, Love and Laughter’. Happy 2. Birthday, liebes 🩵 Heute vor genau sieben Jahren bin ich in Riva am Gardasee nur mal kurz umgekippt. Mein Herz hat eine Pause gemacht. Vielleicht gebraucht. Und ich? Durfte danach Heli fliegen, wovon ich nichts mitbekommen habe und habe dann meinen Defobro bekommen. Damit das nicht nochmal passiert – das Herz hat eigentlich rein arbeitsrechtlich kein Anrecht auf Pausen. Am Anfang wollte ich meine Geschichte mit niemandem teilen, ich wusste nicht wie, wollte die mitleidigen Blicke vermeiden und einfach nur so weiter machen wie davor. Aber was ist denn dieses „davor“? Gibt’s das eigentlich? Darf es das geben oder ist eh alles nur auf diesen einen Moment hinausgelaufen, wo mein Herz einen kurzen Moment aufgehört hat zu schlagen? Vielleicht ja. Vielleicht nein. Kann man im Nachhinein ja nie wirklich sagen. Sagen kann ich nur, dass ich, seit ich meine Geschichte geteilt habe, so viele Menschen kennengelernt habe, die in der gleichen Situation sind. Die auch einen Defi brauchen, die das gleiche erlebt haben oder ähnlich. Mit meiner Geschichte konnte ich Menschen Mut machen, vielleicht sogar helfen. Das hätte ich 2017 ehrlich gesagt auch gerne gehabt, denn ich wusste nicht so recht wie ich mit dem Defi umgehen soll und hab ihn dann einfach mit zum radeln, Skifahren, tauchen und in den Urlaub genommen. Wir haben uns gut zusammen eingespielt und die meisten Tage denke ich gar nicht an ihn. Nur eben heute. Und wenn ich mal wieder zum Deficheck muss. Aber das gehört dazu und das iPhone will ja hin und wieder auch ein Update. Deswegen: Happy 2. Birthday liebes Herz, schön, dass es dich gibt! Whatever therapeutic profession you are in, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that you are supposed to meet a client and make everything better instantly. 🫠 I shared with my placement student today that we have to remind ourselves (constantly for me) that we probably aren’t the first therapist to support our client and we probably won’t be the last. Our role isn’t to “fix” our client, because they’re not broken for us to fix. We’re there to listen, meet them where they’re at, and help empower them to learn, problem solve and grow! 🩵 .
