Consigli di visione 👀 "Come ammazzare il capo... e vivere felici 1 & 2", un dittico di film spassosi, una trilogia mancata: "Una notte da leoni" wannabe per intenderci... Tuttavia sono molto meno conosciuti rispetto alla trilogia diretta da Todd Philiphs. Nick, Dale e Kurt decidono di eliminare i rispettivi capi, responsabili della loro infelicità. Con la complicità di un galeotto orchestrano un piano... ma gli imprevisti sono dietro l'angolo. I 3 membri principali del cast sono Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis e Charlie Day. I perfidi capi sono attori incredibili come Donald Sutherland, Kevin Spacey, Christoph Waltz, Chris Pine, Colin Farrell e Jennifer Aniston. Con la presenza di Jamie Fox in un ruolo a dir poco spassoso. Tutti gli attori sono sorprendentemente in parte. Dialoghi improvvisati, gag slapstick a dismisura, sovversione delle aspettative in molti frangenti e intrattenimento garantito. Specialmente il secondo film (meno compatto narrativamente rispetto al primo, ma di gran lunga più estremo, eccessivo ed esilarante) preme il piede sull'acceleratore nelle situazioni assurde e rocambolesche in cui i personaggi si ritrovano. Con alcuni espedienti di montaggio ben congegnati ed una colonna sonora non originale (colma di brani pop famosi degli anni 2010), entrambi i film sono confezionati egregiamente. La durata dei due capitoli è giusta e la visione degli stessi scorre molto veloce e piacevolmente. Gli incassi dei due film sono assai contenuti e negli anni sono stati ingiustamente accantonati. I have only the vaguest memory of watching the #1992 movie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The thing I remember the most was being shocked that PeeWee Herman looked so different in this. The tv show would be much better regarded, but I definitely never saw that. The writer of both was #JossWhedon, who would go on to do all sorts of popular stuff, from Firefly to the Avengers. I read that his vision for this movie was undermined by the director, as well as others. Considering how beloved the show is, and how uneven this movie is, they probably should’ve stuck closer to his script. There are some positives here. The concept is novel, and entertaining. A 90’s Valley Girl cheerleader is the chosen vampire hunter. The aforementioned #PaulReubens as Amilyn is probably the best part and makes the most of his limited screen time. It has an absolutely loaded cast, but the performances are uneven. #KristySwanson does both bimbo and badass very well, she takes on the role with flair, which I cannot say for #LukePerry, who tries to get by with just looks and charm, but fails on the latter part. Likewise, #DonaldSutherland sleepwalks through the part and it’s probably the worst performance I ever saw from him. I heard he changed his lines too, and it was definitely not for the better. #RutgerHauer is cheesy, but in a kinda fun way, so he’s fine. A really funny one is that Ben Affleck is briefly in it and not even credited. I did get a couple laughs, especially during Buffy’s fight against Amilyn. His death scene is the best part of the film, but Buffy has a great line before that. He tells her that Vampires can do anything, and she looks at his severed arm and says, “Oh yeah, clap.” I thought that was fantastic. There’s a great line in the ending credits, too. “They had this look in their eyes, totally cold, animal… I think they were young Republicans.” There’s such a big mix of bad and good, it’s hard to grade this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Miranda’s Victim (2023) follows a true story from the 1960’s where a young girl was kidnapped and raped yet was let down by the legal system which prompted her to fight to change the law. Despite the low budget and TV Movie production feel, this boasts a decent cast and tells a very important story. There is decent cinematography and music that compliments the intended tone. Abigail Breslin and Ryan Phillippe deliver solid performances and Donald Sutherland, Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman round out the cast. The non linear storytelling works and ensures the underlining themes resonate with the audience. “They’re here already! You’re next! You’re next, You’re next!” Finally watched the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1956 and I’m impressed how intense the film is and how good-looking the pods and replicas were. Just a very well made horror. As much as I enjoyed the original, my favorite is still the 1978 version with Donald Sutherland. Mainly because of Donald and because I absolutely love the added warning scream and the finger pointing the pod people make to warn others of humans. Just the perfect remake. I also like the 90’s version, it’s of course not as good but it’s entertaining and I like the military base setting.
