My saffron is flowering!!!! Harvested the first 3 today after work to keep them safe from the creatures of the night. They smell so fragrant and amazing and better than what I've bought from the store. This is so dang cool, I can't wait to see how much I can get. Especially great after I had a rodent/pest eat one of the first flowers of the plants that are in the ground and not in containers. #saffron #saffroncrocus #spice #flower #flowersofinstagram #flowers #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #herb #homegrown #homestead #ediblelandscaping #ediblegarden #maryland #container #containergardening #pottedplants #gardensofinstagram #gardening #gardens #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #prodigiousgarden #dormgardening #foryou

These Garden-in-a-Bag are great for anyone who wants fresh herbs, not the maintenance and upkeep of a full garden! All you need to do is open the bag and add water. Once you get sprouts you can keep them in the bag, or transplant them to a pot! Pick-up one or all four for yourself, or someone who lives in a small space! ðŸŠīðŸŒą . . #greenthumb #gardeninabag #herbgarden #dormgardening #apartmentgarden #shopmarquette #marquettemi #shoplocal #supportlocalbusiness #ameliasmqt

Nothing spectacular really, just a bunch of dragonfruit cuttings that came from 3 of my original 4 seedlings. These guys are growing like wild and I should probably give them away 😂 I don't have room for them and would definitely like to not have to bring them all back home with me when I'm done here. But I'll probably end up taking them home with me and giving them to friends there. #dragon #fruit #dragonfruit #pitaya #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #cactus #cacti #cactiofinstagram #ediblegarden #containergardening #homegrown #houseplantsofinstagram #houseplants #container #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #grownfromseed #plants

Potted up some plants! It's getting closer to spring weather and moving them outside. My grapefruit that was in the oxy-pot is now in a fabric air-pruning pot. It's roots looked amazing so I'm expecting it to take off once it realizes it has room to grow again. Then I moved my LSU Purple Fig into a bigger fabric pot since it really woke up and started growing more than just a few leaves. Now it will have the space to really take off, and maybe catch up to the Chicago Hardy with producing figs. My lemon cutting, yeah it's roots grew like crazy but it's like a small net instead of thick roots I like so into the air-pruning pot it goes. It's not a huge upgrade, but it's enough for this lemon that I want to turn into a bonsai in the future. And lastly I moved my coastal redwoods into larger pots because they were growing so well. I hope they really take off so I can take cuttings in the future. #citrus #container #containercitrus #growingcitrusincontainers #grapefruit #lemon #figs #fig #coastal #redwoods #coastalredwoods #fruit #fruittrees #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #containergardening #dormgardening #houseplantsofinstagram #gardening #houseplants

Nothing too spectacular, just some moss poles to provide better support for my dragonfruit. These guys are growing incredibly well. When I don't have to move anymore, gonna set them up in bigger pots with better supports to eventually get them to fruit. They aren't even 1 year old yet, that won't be until the end of March!! #container #containergardening #containergarden #pot #pottedplants #indoorplants #indoorgarden #indoorgardening #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #dragon #dragonfruit #pitaya #plantsofinstagram #houseplants #houseplantsofinstagram #edible #ediblegarden

3 of the 7 (actually 8, another one grew) pomegranate seedlings. These three are in the same grow tent, the others are in the other grow tent. Potted them all up in their own pots today. Hopefully they take well and grow strong and steady! Also my coast redwood seedlings is looking amazing!!! Such beautiful green colors to it, I can't wait to see it get bigger. Though I did prune the branches back a bit, they were super long and bowing down and just got in the way. But I think that it looks better with the shorter branches now. #pomegranate #pomegranatetree #redwood #redwoods #coastredwood #container #containergardening #bonsai #houseplantsofinstagram #houseplant #livingdecor #grownfromseed #indoorgardening #dormgardening #apartmentgardening #homegarden #homegrown

Just a small update since not much has changed. Mulched my coast redwoods with some horticultural charcoal, and seeded it with moss to create a living mulch layer and create an aged look. Should also make the beneficial bacteria, fungi, and insects (springtails) happy. Also bought some more tree kits to treat myself for Christmas. Dawn Redwood, the living fossil of trees, it's a conifer that loses its needles in the winter. Bristlecone Pine, one of the longest living trees in the world. Whitebark Pine, a key tree to Alpine and subalpine ecosystems. The non-fruit trees I grow are beautiful trees and useful for wildlife, but also are a small act of conservation on my end. It's a separated source of genetic material and source for cuttings in the future is something were to happen. Which means I will be trying to grow cuttings of them in the future when I get a better system set up. Part of my belief to be the change you want to see, small steps can have big results. #conifer #coniferous #pine #pinetree #redwoods #redwood #pinecone #ancient #gianttrees #grownfromseed #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #dormgardening #bonsai #ornaments #ornament #ornamental #decorative #tree #bristleconepine #dawnredwood #coastredwood #whitebarkpine

Just some small updates today My pomegranate back home is getting bigger and better looking, I just need it to start turning colors and ripen up! Hopefully it times well with me going back home for a visit so I get to eat it ðŸĪĪ I'm so excited just thinking about how it made it this far, from a seed I grew when I was bored in undergrad to producing its own fruit! Pomegranate is next to my dad's big old hand, so it's getting to a nice size and hopefully full of seeds 😁😁 And I trimmed some of the lateral growth off my dragonfruit and decided to just plop them into some soil and see if they grow! If they do then awesome, if they don't then no biggie. I just want the main stems of the cacti to grow stronger and healthier so I can try and get them to fruit in the future. #container #containergardening #containergarden #homegarden #homegrown #grownfromseed #dragon #dragonfruit #pitaya #pomegranatetree #pomegranate #fruit #fruittree #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #hobbygarden #gardenhobby #plantsofig #gardensofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #plantsmakepeoplehappy #ediblegarden

I did some needed gardening today, moved some plants into bigger pots. My mandarin orange has been upgraded from a small nursery pot to this big pot! It really needed it as you can see from it being root bound pretty well! I also finally bothered it enough to release some oils, and it smells so sweet and delicious. My lemon cutting had done so well in the cup, but it had to be moved into a bigger pot, the reason I bought new pots today. I moved it into the nursery pot freed up by my mandarin orange. I'm amazed at how well it's been growing. And I decided to move my new mamey sapote into the other big pot I have. It's tap root was already through the red solo cup it was in. I honestly didn't expect this seed to grow cause I dropped it and the baby root snapped off, but I still plopped it in soil and now it's been growing so well! Hopefully it's roots have plenty of room for the next year! Also both mamey sapote that I have grown from seed I bought from Miami Fruit, I don't know where else you'd find one 😂 Let's hope I have enough room in the mini-greenhouse for everything this winter 😂 #container #containercitrus #containergardening #citrus #orange #lemon #mamey #mameysapote #fruit #fruittree #plantsofig #plantsofinstagram #houseplantsofinstagram #pottedplants #plantaddict #orangetree #lemontree #grownfromseed #homegrown #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #homegarden #stressrelief

Just a small update on my pomegranate tree back home in Maryland! One of the flowers looks like it's taking hold and forming a fruit!!! This is so freaking awesome. A tree I grew from a seed I saved 6, almost 7, years ago now I think. Finally flowered for the first time ever and one may form a fruit. I'm so excited but also so incredibly bummed that I'm in Missouri for my last year of vet school so I can't see it in person. Might have my family buy some silk baggies to put around the fruit to keep pests away... I'll have updates on my other plants back home soon! #pomegranate #pomegranates #container #containergarden #containergardening #grownfromseed #saveyourseeds #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantsofig #plantsofinstagram #homegrown #dormgardening

Just a small update on the potted plants I have out here in COMO during my veterinary clinical year. Tomatoes are flowering and beginning to fruit. Peppers are fruiting and just waiting for them to ripen and color up before picking. My seed grown key lime is looking amazing, really branching out and spreading. My mandarin grown from seed it huge, I'm hoping to keep it in this pot for a while longer but I'm thinking I'm going to have to pot it up sooner than later! It's grown so much from when I had it in the greenhouse over the winter...I still think of it as a baby seedling and not this little tree that won't fit into one picture 😂 My two lemon cuttings are looking amazing, but I think they'll need to be moved to bigger pots soon as well! Their roots are peaking out the bottom of the ones they are in now. Might turn one in to a bonsai...maybe, we'll see. Though one of them has been getting bothered by insects out here more than they ever have back home in Maryland. My grapefruit looks happy as can be in its pot and is slowly growing taller and wider. I can't wait for it to one day be as tall or taller than me 😂 Look at those baby dragonfruit!! That's just amazing that they are growing so well. I can't wait to see them produce in the future! Lastly, but certainly not least, my only successful iochroma cutting. It is doing amazing, just look at how bushy it is becoming! I would love to see it flower, and if it doesn't then hopefully next year. #container #containercitrus #containergardening #containergarden #dormgardening #homegarden #homegrown #pottedplants #grownfromseed #citrus #plantsofig #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #gardenadventure #gardensofinstagram #houseplantsofinstagram #dvmgardening #mandarin #lemon #lime #grapefruit #dragonfruit #pitaya #mandarintree #lemontree #limetree #grapefruittree

I got a little update on my plants back home in Maryland. My big pom is loaded with flowers and I'm just amazed. I hope some beginner fruit! My other pom is also putting out some good little flowers too, I didn't expect too see that happen. Dyna-Gro really freaking helps! This one is flowering at under 5 years old. My iochroma is really growing in well after I cut it way back due to long spindly growth that was ugly and now it is thick and lush. I really hope to see that it blooms this year too! Then my starfruit or carambola. It was getting really lanky and couldn't support itself so I cut off the top half foot or more and now it's coming back strong and bushy! So happy, I hope it survives my absence. #pomegranate #pomegranates #pottedplants #iochroma #star #starfruit #carambola #container #containergardening #containergarden #grownfromseed #homegarden #homegrown #fruit #fruittrees #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #dormgardening #dvmgardening #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantsofig #gardenadventure #gardensofinstagram #houseplants #plantaddict

This is one of the happiest moments of my gardening hobby!!!!!!!! And I'm so mad/sad that I'm not there to see them in person. All these were sent to me by my mom while I'm away for my clinical year. 1-4 were from Wednesday May 19, the flower buds were swelling and starting to be ready to burst. It looks absolutely weird, like it's literally gonna pop. 5&6 were Thursday May 20. Flowers starting to really pop out, unfurl and show off their beauty. 7-9 are today May 21. Flowers are out and open and are absolutely beautiful!! Some look like male flowers so they probably won't last too long, but they'll start to bring in the pollinators for when the other flowers begin opening up too! It's taken me about 6 years I believe to get this pomegranate tree to this stage. I'm so happy to see it finally flowering. From a tiny, miniscule little seed, to a little seedling, to a mighty beast if a small tree/shrub, and now finally flowering. Fingers crossed I am able to see it set fruit and have my family send it to me!! That will be a huge moment for me! #garden #gardensofinstagram #plants #plantsofig #plantsofinstagram #pomegranate #pomegranates #flower #flowers #flowersofinstagram #homegarden #homegrown #container #containergarden #gardeningaddict #plantcollection #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #dormgardening #houseplants #ediblegarden

I really do love this time of year when everything is growing and looking amazing. 1&2 are my pomegranate that's sending out more and more buds which will become flowers and some will become fruit. I've spotted 36 of them from the big ones to some small one that just started. I'm so excited. 3 is my Jaboticaba having a huge flush of new growth! I love how the new foliage is red and slowly morphs into a light green then a dark green. 4 are some new bananas that overwintered. There's 13 of them I'll have to dig up soon and separate. Some I'll give to friends the rest are going around the pool. 5 is my 2 lemon trees that I've grown from seed. They're 2 years old now and looking absolutely amazing. 6 has 2 of my lime trees also grown from seed. They're a year old now and look so good! 7 has three of my grapefruit trees grown from seed. I've given a few away to friends. I love their leaf shape. 8 is one of my 2 mandarin trees that I grew from seed. It's a year old or so now and is really growing into the pot now. 9 is a general overview of my small collection. Pineapples, limes, grapefruit, strawberries. 10 is focused on my pineapples, cause they are simple yet add such a tropical feel. #citrus #containercitrus #container #containergardening #homegarden #homegrown #grownfromseed #plants #plantsofig #plantcollection #jaboticaba #braziliangrapetree #lime #lemon #grapefruit #mandarin #pineapple #strawberry #gardensofinstagram #gardeningaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy #houseplantsofinstagram #outdoors #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #dormgardening #dvmgardening

Pardon me while I get super excited and giddy and ignore my school stuff for a hot minute 😂 In case you are wondering what's in these pictures, it's a few pomegranate buds beginning to grow and will become flowers and then hopefully fruit! These practically popped up over night/the weekend. The reason I'm so happy about this is because this tree is grown from seed like 6 years ago now when I was in my undergrad studies. This is currently the highlight of my year! Even if it doesn't produce fruit this is a sign that my tree will be able to produce more blooms next year which will lead to higher chances of fruit. #pomegranate #pomegranates #fruit #fruittrees #fruitsofinstagram #plantsofig #plantsofinstagram #grownfromseed #homegrown #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #pottedplants #gardeningaddict #gardening #container #containergardening #flower #flowers #bloom #ediblegarden #growyourgroceries #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

Spring is really coming around the corner...even though it's 32⁰F out and the ground is literally covered in ice. My pomegranate in the first 2 pics is beginning to really start coming out of its dormancy and showing some beautiful new growth! I can't wait to see it as the season really comes in and I can move it back out into the open. My two lemon trees are sending out new growth better after I trimmed off some of the "ugly" side growth to create a better looking tree, just don't top them! Then a beautiful mandarin seedling. I put it right into this big pot, which many don't recommend at risk of root rot, but these pots dry very well and promote a better root network. One of my many grapefruit seedlings, growing very well and looks amazing. Will need to be put in a larger pot to let it grow bigger and better. It's the same age as my mandarin, maybe a couple weeks older, but is half the size. My like tree has a beautiful too growth looking like a canopy. If it was grafted and fruiting it would be a perfect bonsai looking model. But it's also from seed and will need to get a good bit bigger still. It looks like this after a lot of leaf drop back in December and January but it has bounced back and sent off a ton of new growth. Last pic, my small pomegranate I'm working on making into a bonsai. It's waking up and I'm hoping it puts out some good growth this year. Need to work on making it look fuller. Lastly is just a little video of my greenhouse for all the plants, green and happy. It stays 55⁰F or warmer, set with the heater to keep it around 70⁰F. #citrus #container #containercitrus #containergardening #pomegranate #grownfromseed #homegrown #hobbygarden #greenhousegardening #greenhouse #gardenadventure #gardensofinstagram #gardeningaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantsofig #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #dormgardening #dvmgardening #growyourgroceries #lime #mandarin #lemon #grapefruit

Got the first real snow this winter! Had to check in the greenhouse, and I couldn't be happier. It's over 20-degrees warmer in the greenhouse than outside and the plants are thriving. My big pomegranate (2nd oldest plant) is waking up from dormancy and the buds and new growth looks better than all previous years! Fingers crossed it flowers and maybe fruits this year... Even if I won't be home for it. The starfruit in the greenhouse is growing amazingly well!!! I cut it way back months ago cause for some reason it bent over, guess it grew too top heavy too fast. And it popped back really well now with thicker growth. Can't wait to compare it to the others this spring. Might have a minor nitrogen deficiency, but also ask the leaves start off this very light green and become darker as they mature. Little video with a zoom in on the banana that gets all the fruit scraps...I should grow some red wrigglers in there! 😂 My iochroma I bought from @logeesplants is waking back up now too and sending out some thick growth! Hoping with the fertilizer I've been giving that it flowers this year and brings in the humming birds! #greenhousegardening #greenhouse #homegrown #garden #gardensofinstagram #gardeningaddict #gardenadventure #gardening #container #containergardening #starfruit #iochroma #homegarden #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantsofig #flowers #fruittrees #grownfromseed #dormgardening

Nothing major is going on right now with the plants 😅 But the moth orchid (phalaenopsis) is finally blooming! I need to take a further out picture as it blooms more since the flower spike was broken and in turn it sent 2 new spikes out from the original! I've been feeding it for what feels like months now and it's finally beginning to bloom! The last 3 is just some pictures of hornwort, an aquatic plant, that I removed from my fish tank since it was over grown. After checking it for shrimp and snails I took it out to the greenhouse and placed it around my banana tree. Bananas love organic material and mine is kinda just the pot I put extra stuff in 😂 #orchid #orchidsofinstagram #mothorchid #phalaenopsis #flower #flowersofinstagram #hornwort #aquaticplant #aquariumplants #banana #bananatree #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #planttherapy #gardensofinstagram #gardentherapy #container #containergardening #dormgardening

The greenhouse is going strong. Any white spots on the leaves is from an @iv_organics spray to keep away pests. First 2 are sapodilla, brown sugar fruit. These seedlings are growing string and I'm so happy about it. The third is one of my four starfruit trees grown from seed. I cut it was back and it's coming back amazingly happy and healthy. The fourth is my mamey sapote, I love the way it looks. I can't wait to see it grow bigger. 5th is my banana tree, holy cow is it growing so well. It's insane, I'm so happy it's staying strong like this. 6th is one of my two mandarins, it's in a bigger pot and is just growing strong and happy. I can't wait to see it in a couple years and producing fruit! The other one is in a smaller pot and I'll keep it smaller while I'm in my clinicals. 7th is one of my lemon trees. It's over a year old having been started summer of 2019. It's amazing how strong it has grown! 8th is one pot of grapefruit seedlings, I'm gonna need to separate them in spring, but for now they're growing happy. 9th is one of my limes. It's growing alright. I'm hoping in the spring it really boosts in growth and develops better. #citrus #lime #lemon #mandarin #grapefruit #container #containercitrus #containergardening #sapodilla #mamey #mameysapote #mandarintree #lemontree #limetree #grapefruittree #grownfromseed #dormgardening #greenhousegardening #plantcollection #plantsofig #gardensofinstagram #citrusofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #plantsmakepeoplehappy #houseplants

It's the end of December and my strawberries decided that it was the perfect time to fruit in the greenhouse! 😂 Probably also cause I gave them some diatomaceous earth, phosphorus rich bone meal a month or two ago, and have given them the same dyna-gro fertilizers I give the fruit trees and stuff. So hopefully they are sufficiently pollinated, especially after using a brush to rub them, and I get some decent little treats out of it! Way overcrowded in one pot though, so I'm amazed they are doing well enough to even flower! #container #containergardening #strawberry #strawberries #gardensofinstagram #gardenadventure #gardeningaddict #garden #gardening #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #growyourgroceries #growyourownfood #selfreliance #flower #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

Here's a photo dump of my citrus trees. They're doing well in the greenhouse, dare I say thriving! My limes, mandarins, grapefruit, and lemons all are growing string and slowly putting out some new growth... probably due to me feeding with some balanced liquid fertilizers. I need to make sure they are growing string and healthy before I leave for my clinical rotations as they'll then be in the care of my family 😎😎 #dormgardening #citrus #citrusfruit #homegarden #homegrown #grownfromseed #mandarintree #mandarinorange #mandarin #grapefruit #lemon #lime #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #growyourgroceries #gardentherapy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #gardensofinstagram #pottedplants #container #containergardening #houseplants

Just a small update on some plants! 1. An iochroma cutting that grew roots. I moved it into the soil and the new growth suffered..to be expected, but the roots are what matter! And new growth is beginning to show itself 😁 2. 2 lemon cuttings seem to be doing well, they've been like this for a couple weeks now. Hoping they have rooted and I see new growth in the future. 3. Various cuttings, 2 starfruit and 1 basil. Just from trimming and wanted to attempt the starfruit. The basil because it didn't produce seeds. 4. Dragon fruit! It's only been 6 days, so it's not time to see anything yet. Can't wait to see if this style works, fingers crossed. 5. I trimmed my avocado so I put the cutting in a rooting solution, the same as the dragon fruit. 6. Is the avocado, already has buds bursting with life. 7. A grapefruit I thinned from the greenhouse. 8. A grapefruit I've been growing like this for a while now. May need to up-pot in the future. 9. Just an overview of some of the plants. Looking pretty happy! **The white stuff in the soil is DE, diatomaceous earth. It is being used as a lest deterrent/insecticide to help control fungus gnats. As you water it'll mix into the soil more. It contains tiny silica shards that shred the bugs and cause them to dehydrate and die. #grownfromseed #homegrown #homegarden #container #containergardening #citrusfruit #citrus #avocado #starfruit #dragonfruit #fruit #fruitsofinstagram #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsofinstagram #plantsmakemehappy #planttherapy #gardeningaddict #gardentherapy #houseplants #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #grapefruit #lemon

My first attempt growing a dragon fruit cutting from a store bought fruit! I haven't had much success growing them from seed and I refuse to give up until I get myself a thriving plant!!! Fingers crossed it grows roots so then I can go buy some soil just for it 😂 Also huge shout-out to the genius @graftingdragonfruit and his educational videos. It's been getting colder and had some hiccups with my greenhouse, but it held the heat in and my plants are doing pretty well! An update on some of my citrus plants 1-4 are my seed grown lemons, maybe they'll be true Meyer lemons or maybe a unique hybrid, either way they are growing so amazingly well! They are over a year old now since I started them summer of 2019! 5 & 6 are my two seed grown mandarins. Most likely will end up as a hybrid and not true mandarins, but hopefully it's a delicious producer! These guys are only a couple months old having gotten them started in this past spring. 7-8 are two of my many limes grown from seed. They seem to be doing pretty well for only a couple months old, probably 2 older than the mandarins. Not sure if they'll be true or hybrid, but hoping for something good for cooking. 9 is a picture of some grapefruit seedlings. I have quite a few but only snagged this one 😅 these guys are my youngest trees having been started in the summer. Hopefully they produce true Ruby red grapefruit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a hybrid. Only time will tell. If I had the time, money, and resources I'd probably jimmy-rig a watering system for the plants to make it easier, but for now a weekly watering with light fertilizer should be plenty. #container #containergardening #citrusfruit #citrustree #citrus #containercitrus #grownfromseed #homegrown #homegarden #greenhouse #greenhousegardening #plantsmakemehappy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantcollection #plantcollector #mycollection #plantsofinstagram #citrusofinstagram #fruitsofinstagram #fruit #fruittrees #dormgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

It's nearing the end of October, but thanks to my greenhouse I'm still getting peppers. Not my best harvest, but it's good for snacking and adding to omelettes and stuff. The bell pepper in pic 1 I thought would be spicy cause it's so dark, but I think that's cause it experienced some cold weather and transplanting. Pic 2 is a sweet pepper, wish it was hot though 😅 the plant this one came from isn't doing the best right now, so I might go cut it way back and try nursing it to health when the fertilizer stuff I ordered arrives. Pics 3 & 4 are cuttings. The ones in 3 are iochroma cuttings. They look like they are developing oxygen nodes at the stem cell locations, so it would be great to see roots develop soon! I also put a red solo cup around it to limit the light penetration and favor the root growth. The ones in 4 are: a basil cutting (classic) and 2 starfruit cuttings. The basil is because I didn't get much if a harvest and no seeds so gotta preserve it for next season. The starfruit comes from the plant in the greenhouse that was tipping over, so I cut it down to a bottom shoot. These were two healthy and strong looking sections so I decided to try and see if they'll root like this. Maybe one day I'll buy a fancy set up for rooting my cuttings 😂 Pic 5 is the starfruit in the greenhouse. It was the smallest of the plants to begin with, then it got too heavy or something and fell over and hardened that way. Probably from the heat in the greenhouse helping it grow faster? Not sure. But I cut it back to a vertical branch and as you can see it is super happy! Roots > top. 6 & 7 are the starfruit I have indoors. They are growing great!! Had to stake one up cause it was leaning a bit. Might trim them all back a bit now too honestly ðŸĪ” 8 is my avocado, it's looking so beautiful it makes me happy. Can't wait to see if it flowers, hopefully sooner than later. 9 is my jaboticaba. This little fella grew really well and has a beautiful branching pattern. I'm gonna give it some good fertilizer over this winter to get it ready to bloom in the spring. It'll probably require hand pollination if the insects up here don't do it. We'll see. Only one not grown from seed!

10/25/2020, 5:18:11 PM

Moved some of my plants indoors that don't fit in my greenhouse! 3 starfruit, 1 avocado, 1 jaboticaba, 1 Hawaiian shiflera (umbrella tree), and not pictured is 1 iochroma...but if you looking the background I have some iochroma cuttings. Starfruit and avocado were grown from seed. The Hawaiian shiflera is grown from a cutting from my dad's plant. I bought the jaboticaba and iochroma from @logeesplants. They've all gotten Dr. Earth Organic Fertilizer, @jobesorganics fertilizer stakes, and other goodies to help them grow strong. I'll probably need to give more to help them get through the winter and ready for the summer. My little Garden of Eden is coming together more and more. Gotta love having a hobby that lets you see the effort literally grow and produce and multiply. Especially helpful when studying veterinary medicine. #starfruit #avocado #hawaiianshiflera #umbrellatree #jaboticaba #iochroma #tropical #tropicalplants #fruit #grownfromseed #plantcollection #plantsmakemehappy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #houseplants #pottedplants #container #containergardening #gardening #garden #gardeninghobby #gardeningaddiction #gardeningaddict #dormgardening #dvm #dvmgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

4 of my #citrus #trees and all are grown from seed! The first 2 are lemons, the seeds came from meyer lemons but no guarantee they'll be true to type. The last 2 are mandarins, from store bought bags of mandarin oranges...also no guarantee that they'll grow true to type either. So while they might not grow true to type they may produce something even more unique! Which I would love. Maybe it'll be great for cooking with, or juicing, or eating...who knows?! That's part of the fun. And let's say it's not something I particularly like....there's still no loss! My starfruit are still growing well, even after a stray caterpillar are some of the leaves and even the top growth of one! But they're acting like nothing happened and putting on more new growth! My jaboticaba is also pumping out new leaf and branch growth like crazy! All those red/brown and turning green leaves are new! Happened after I gave it a good dose of phosphorus. It would be awesome if I could get it to flower and fruit soon! The peppers in the greenhouse decided that they were ready to actively fruit and ripen now 😂 can you see them all?? Probably from me adding the heater and having it kick on to keep the greenhouse around 70°F. I think these 3 might be doing better than the other 1 though...but that's probably cause I haven't put the heater in the greenhouse yet. But this is the most growth and progress I have EVER gotten on my starfruit so I'm excited. They're even sending out side shoots and beginning to look fuller and fuller! So exciting. Built my new @shelterlogic backyard greenhouse. Took me a bit last night and a good chunk of today. Would have gone a lot faster if I didn't have to cut the bushes way back 😂 Covered some minor gaps with duct tape since winter is coming. It's like 50°F out and it's holding at 54.6°F so I'm probably gonna put a heater in there to be safe. But first to record the temps for a couple days to see how well it does before doing an automatic heater. #homegrown #homegarden #greenhouse #plant #plants #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #collection #collections #houseplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #tropicalplants #dormgardening #dvmgardening

Soooooo I did a thing. Removed and mulched all the plants...except for the peppers. I took them out and potted up 5 of the 6 that were in there. The last one is still in the bed until I get a bag of soil for it. I also found a mystery seedling from some tropical fruit. The seed must have ended up in one of the pods I planted...whoops 😂😂 But I'm doing all this so I can put a greenhouse here. I bought a backyard greenhouse from @shelterlogic and it's gonna fill the space nicely, plus it's the southern exposure. #backyard #backyardgarden #homegarden #gardenbeds #gardening #greenhouse #transformation #plantcollection #gardeningaddict #plantaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy #planttherapy #plantsmakemehappy #gardentherapy #homegrown #dormgardening #dvmgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

1-4: trimmed some trees that needed it. 3 pomegranates and a jaboticaba. 5&6: my banana tree giving a slight tropical feel to the Chesapeake in September. Trying to decide if I should build a greenhouse around it or just cut it back and mulch to overwinter. 7&8: what is most likely my last cantaloupe was just harvested, and cut up. It was super creamy and fragrant and refreshing! Need to dedicate a whole area to just them and not a super crowded garden bed. 9&10: I sealed up my mushroom block on one side, opened the other, and soaked it. So let's hope I can get another flush out of it before I go to buy a 5 gallon bucket and woodchips/straw to make a homemade container to grow them out of 😂😂 #dormgardening #homegarden #homegardening #containergardening #gardenbeds #garden #pomegrante #jaboticaba #banana #bananatree #cantaloupe #fungi #mushroom #oystermushrooms #doityourself #homegrown #growyourownfood #growyourgroceries #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #gardeningaddict #mycollection #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #gardeninghobby #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy

This time of year the garden is now slowing down a bit, mainly from the weather and because I didn't need it to produce so much. First 2 pics are strawberry plants. I'm removing them from their not so ideal spots and temporarily putting them in planters. This isn't how you're supposed to plant them permanently so don't copy!! Just needed to move them out if the way. They'll probably stay in there next season unless I find a shorter, longer, and wider planter. Don't have a spot for them right now. First acorn squash of the year was harvested and cooked! Might roast the seeds later too. Cut into the flesh, rub with butter, add in some brown sugar, and if you have it put in a little bit of good (real) maple syrup. Cook for an hour at 400°F and it's deliciously perfect. I also put water in the bottom of the pan to keep them from drying out. Lastly? Some wild growing medicinal mushrooms. Turkey Tail! I can harvest some and use it to make a tea. More and more research is being done on natural medicinals like mushrooms, but most are anecdotal and based on traditional medicine. Do not harvest a mushroom if you aren't certain of what it is!!! A mistake could be harmless, it could make you sick, or it could kill you. Do your research before touching/picking/tasting/eating. I can't stress that enough. If you want fresh mushrooms then look at growing them yourself in a manner that prevents contamination so you know 100% what you are getting. #strawberries #strawberryplants #strawberry #acorn #squash #acornsquash #mushroom #mushroomsofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #homegrown #wildgrown #eatyourmedicine #dormgardening #dvmgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #mushrooms #research #BeSafe #turkey #turkeytail #turkeytailmushroom #turkeytailmushrooms

My one pomegranate really needed to be moved into a bigger pot even though I moved it into that pot earlier in the summer. The oxy-pots really helped set it up to handle the change properly. The new oxy-pot should keep it happy and healthy for a while now. My mamey sapote also got moved into a bigger pot. While it wasn't at max capacity in it's old pot I didn't want to have to risk repotting it when it gets cold, so I moved it into a new home ahead of schedule. And that should keep it going strong for quite some time. The grapes on my grapevine are beginning to ripen, I tried one because I had to know. It was a little sour/bitter so definitely not fully ripe yet. But also I was surprised to find out they have seeds!! So that means I'm saving their seeds to grow more vines 😂 Trimmed the pomegranate I have in ground to look like a nice little tree and so it's branches don't touch the mulch when it rains. Got a watermelon on the vine, 3rd one. Let's hope nothing breaks it off this time!! One of my other pomegranates was sitting on top of some bricks and the roots grew happily and really strong through the oxy-pot and didn't get air pruned, so I trimmed them off to encourage more radial root growth. And last but not least, the pickerel frog still loves to chill in my garden and eat all the insects and I'm not complaining! #fruit #fruittree #fruittrees #growwild #growyourownfood #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #homegrown #homegardening #homegarden #container #containergardening #gardensofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #garden #gardenbeds #grapes #pomegrantes #mamey #mameysapote #grapevine #dormgardening #dvmgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

A small sample of my harvest and some work I've been doing. I finally got a ripe cantaloupe the other day, popped right off the vine. It was super sweet and juicy and absolutely delicious! It was also my first home grown cantaloupe I've ever had without some animal destroying it! So I was super excited. Also ended up eating the whole thing in a about 2 days 😂 The cherry and beefsteak tomatoes are also growing and producing really well, I just wish it wasn't raining so much as many tomatoes are cracking, and it's just physically unattractive...they still taste delicious. And the cucumber vines just keep putting out more and growing strong! Been making lots of quick pickles. I'm also saving seeds from the tomatoes again to keep having a better stock, and I still have seeds from what I grew them from. My starfruit have been moved into their own pots, no longer all together. And they're growing so beautifully. I'm so happy with them! I also took my lemon tree that was in a short pot and moved it into a bigger pot today. And let me tell you, the roots were amazing!! It's doing so well. So I hope it appreciates being moved into a new pot with plenty of room for it for the next couple years. Of course I gave them some @dr_earth_organics living fertilizer and @jobesorganics fruit tree spikes. Big change with this repotting and would love to get their roots growing healthy before winter and having to move them indoors. I also bought all the @black_gold_soils that was available at my local @acehardware because I never buy enough 😂😂 probably still need more after this honestly. And last but not least I had a little lizard in the pool! It's been a bit since I last posted 👀 mainly cause with this crazy storm pattern I've been staying inside and going out in short breaks. Went out today and found this pickerel frog, a native Maryland resident, chilling in the pot on some wet soil under a lettuce plant. Noticed a cantaloupe growing in the mass of vines on the tomato cage. Gonna need to give it some support! Also a tomato hornworm became food for some beneficial wasps! Those white things were the cocoons they used to change from larva to adults. Thank God for them. My grapefruit seedling is growing really well and it even has a root coming ask the way out at the bottom. Trimmed up the pomegranate so that way it doesn't have branches touching the ground. My starfruit is doing incredibly well! What's crazy is the reddish hue the stem has as it is growing! Need to separate them into their own pots. One of my lemon trees is a prolific grower and will be groomed into a strong canopy and just be a treasure to keep. My avocado is bouncing back really well from being trimmed (this pic is a little old, it's even better now). So it's gonna grow bushier and bushier and I'm loving it. Lastly is a picture of a cluster of grapes on my vine. Going strong with one ripened up but cracked. Even though this time of year is hell's front porch, the garden is still growing and coming alive. First my big pomegranate is just taking off and looking more and more beautiful. Doesn't hurt the ladybugs like it too. I'd love to see it flower, but I don't think the flowers would last too long once we get to fall and winter. Then my avocado tree. I cut the tips of the branches off and fertilized so now the lower buds are beginning to burst with life. Terrible quality pics though thanks to the sun yesterday afternoon. Then some seedlings, primarily sapodilla which I grew from seeds that I got when I ordered from @miamifruit and I can't wait to try and get the to fruit in the future!! Then 2 of my lemon trees. They are growing so well and beginning to branch out. I had to trim a lower branch off if one of them already (which is a cutting now, fingers crossed it takes root). Then my mamey sapote, also grown from seed that I got when I ordered fruit from @miamifruit. It is growing so well and looks so beautiful, I absolutely love it. Part of me is worried that I'll need to take it down to Florida to some friends though if I don't have enough room for it here in MD. Ladybugs are everywhere and I'm loving it cause they eat so many bad bugs. My @backtotheroots_official mushroom block has a second flush with smaller ones beginning to grow again already! I haven't done much and it's just bursting with life. This picture is from this morning which is about 3× larger than they were yesterday morning. Everyone needs to grow edible mushrooms. Lastly some wild mushrooms. I think I have an idea of what they are....but because I'm not 100000000% sure, I'm not even thinking about eating them. But they sure are pretty. Mushrooms all serve a key purpose of healing the land and improving the soil and unlocking nutrients, so let them grow and release their spores (unless you are making an area where you want to grow edible mushrooms if course).

We had Isaias the tropical storm come through the other day. When I went out to pick tomatoes to stop them from cracking, I noticed this hornworm on a pepper plant. Notice anything strange? I think those are eggs that were laid on it by a wasp. Not sure though and didn't feel like waiting to find out. I did what I normally do and removed the hornworm and buried it under mulch to feed the soil. When the storm cleared there was a male and female cardinal flying around and being really loud and singing. Didn't know why until I walked around the pool and noticed this little baby cardinal in the bushes! #cardinal #cardinals #birds #birdwatching #chicks #babybird #wasp #eggs #tomatohornworms #hornworms #gardenpest #gardenpest #storm #tropicalstorm #dormgardening #dvmgardening

My local ACE finally had the shipment @black_gold_soils that I was waiting on. I should have bought more cause I ended up using it all up, so I'll need to go back tomorrow and get some more for some cuttings I'm trying to grow. I also bought more @jobesorganics fertilizer spikes, and used them all up already for my fruit trees 😂 That being said I finally got my jaboticaba from @logeesplants into a bigger pot for it to call home for a while. Thank God these trees can handle being in a smaller pot for a while. But it's definitely going to appreciate the room to grow. And the help from the @dr_earth_organics fertilizer I give all my plants when repotting/planting. I also took my 2 Mandarin seedlings and I put them in their own pots too, so they can grow big and strong and healthy. I planted like 5 lime seeds from @miamifruit and they gave me like 12 seedlings! So I potted them up (but forgot to take pictures of the finished product). But during their planting I was running low on soil so had to cut my normal potting mix with the seedling/cutting mix. So I added @azomite to that mix to add missing nutrients, but I'm running low so I gotta make it last. I noticed a baby watermelon on my sugar baby watermelon vine! I hope it stays and grows nice and strong, the seeds were about a decade old 😎 I also cleaned out my fishtank and used that water in the garden as things were looking a tad dry....then the tropical storm came through. #dormgardening #dvmgardening #homegrown #homegarden #homegardening #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #containergardening #tropicalgarden #jungle #gardensofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #gardeningaddict #planttherapy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #fish #fishofinstagram #aquarium #aquariumsofinstagram #jaboticaba #lime #mandarin #mandarinorange #watermelon #sugarbabywatermelon #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit

I've been gone from my plants for a week dogsitting for some of my best friends. I come back and HOLY COW! They shot up like weeds. I have many more pictures but Instagram only allows 10, so I had to make each into a collage. 1st is primarily for 2 surprises. Baby citrus seedlings, and I think they are grapefruit. One is growing with an aloe and the other with a beet I'm letting go to seed (or thinking about letting go to seed). Then my banana tree! The banana pups are growing tall, some are over a foot or more in height, look like swords. And the banana tree itself is growing so well. This leaf sticking up puts it well over 6' tall. Next we see a collage of my garden. It's like a see if green growth! It's so vibrant and healthy lots of hidden gems of fruit hiding in there. And look at some of the beautiful fruits. The cantaloupes are getting huge! Can't wait for them to be fully ripe. I have an acorn squash coming along brilliantly (unlike the previous ones that never got this big), so I can't wait to enjoy that this fall. My peppers are doing well, even though they haven't been producing that much. Can't wait to find out if this is a sweet pepper or a hot pepper 😂. And if course the cherry tomatoes are growing like crazy and so are the cucumbers and both are giving nice harvests. Pineapples? Yup I have them growing too! Bottom right is the top of my homegrown pineapple. Top right is a sucker from the plant that grew the fruit, and the left is a new sucker on the original plant. Then my starfruit. I grew them from seed and they are doing so well! I'm so proud of them. I need more pots so they can each have their own pot. My grape clusters are doing alright, way better than previous years. So fingers crossed I get to harvest and eat them. The watermelon vines in my dad's garden are doing good. I hope they produce so I can save their seeds and enjoy delicious homegrown watermelon. My dad's garden beds are doing alright too, just started later than mine. Lastly are some garden failures. Dragon fruit seedlings didn't survive a storm, and deer ate the top of a tomato plant, a cantaloupe, a whole garden bean plant, and an acorn squash plant.

I love being in my garden, can't wait till I have my own house and can have massive gardens one day! But for now, this will do. My banana tree, holy cow does it grow like a weed, and sending up pups all the time! Can't wait to separate them and have more. Probably give them to my friends. My pomegranate tree is growing shaggier and bushier every day, and I thought it just looked cool today like it was protecting the area under it. And the amount of mushrooms was cool too. The cantaloupe is now perfectly hand sized. It it was ripe it would be the perfect snack! The sugar baby watermelon is doing amazing and sending out more flowers! I can't wait to have a fresh homegrown watermelon. I've got one baby pepper forming so far, not sure which type it may be yet as I have like 3 different types of peppers planted. The others keep having their flowers knocked off by the rain. The tomatoes are ripening! I've eaten a few cherry tomatoes so far and they're delicious 😍ðŸĪĪ sadly I knocked this green ones off trying to get the ripe one and remove a caterpillar (not a hornworm). The last 2 are two different cucumber salads I made which I prefer to think of them as quick pickles. They are delicious with the redder one being my favorite. #homegrown #homegarden #selfreliance #selfsufficient #growwild #growyourownfood #growyourgroceries #saveseeds #saveyourseeds #grownfromseed #vegetablegarden #actuallyfruit #tomato #tomatoes #cucumber #cucumbers #cantaloupe #cantaloupes #pomegrantes #bananatree #dormgardening #dvmgardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #planttherapy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #gardensofinstagram #plantsmakemehappy

It's been a couple days since my aloe was damaged, all the cut leaf spots had calloused over and I removed lots of the old dried up bits to expose the nodes that contain stem cells....some of which already had roots growing! When the accident happened I cut the aloe stem into 2 manageable pieces, I probably could have done more smaller pieces and it would be fine and survive but I wanted each half to have as many roots as possible. As you can see one half has the last leaves I left on it. I'm using some wire to help hold it more upright and less of a leaning tower of pisa. As it grows again I'll definitely add more supports but also find a bigger and more permanent pot/spot for it. Especially when I get my own house. The other half has no leaves but it has lots of nodes that were just bursting with life. I hope to see all the roots grow and one new stem develop. This one went into it's old pot after I revitalized the soil. I'm debating on putting gravel, sand, or red lava rocks on top of the soil as decoration but also to help prevent fungus gnats. This is my oldest plant, about 7 years old I believe. Give it take. #aloepups #aloe #AloeVera #aloeveragel #succulents #succulentsofinstagram #succulentlove #aloeofinstagram #gardeningmistakes #plantcollection #planttherapy #plantsofinstagram #houseplants #houseplantsofinstagram #dormgardening #dvmgardening #homewindow #homegarden

Plants are growing along just right. My one pomegranate is putting on some good growth and no doubt the roots look even better! The mulch is alive with bacteria and fungi and worms. The raspberries are coming along great for a small fall crop, which is going to be delicious! The baby cantaloupes are getting bigger, this one sits comfortably in the palm of my hand. Some smaller ones aren't going to make it to this stage, but that's life. The tomatoes are beginning to blush, at least the cherry ones are. So almost time to pick and enjoy! ðŸĪĪðŸĪĪ More flowers are appearing on the watermelon vine, so only a matter of time before I see female flowers that will produce little sugar baby watermelons. The cucumber vines are growing crazy. You can see 3 easily but there's at least 4 others in the mess that are the same size. The acorn squash is putting some growth into a baby squash, hopefully this one doesn't die off like the previous one did 😎 The last 3 suck. My oldest aloe was very top heavy and I've been trying to find a good and deep pot for it so more roots would grow out of the stem. Well some accidents happened and a family member broke the stem from the pot. So I harvested almost all the leaves along the stem and then I cut the stem into 2 manageable portions, with one having leaves on it. I'm letting them callous over and then I'll attempt to report them and get them to grow new roots. I collected all the flesh from the thick leaves and removed the sap. It's in the freezer now for burns or cuts or if my little sister wants to make a facemask with the cucumbers or something. Who knows 😂 #gardeningmistakes #gardenfails #gardenfresh #homegrown #grownoutdoors #grownfromseed #saveyourseeds #plantsofinstagram #gardensofinstagram #gardeningaddict #homegarden #planttherapy #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #tomato #cantaloupe #cantaloupes #tomatoes #aloe #aloevera #raspberry #raspberries #watermelon #cucumber #cucumbers #dormgardening #dvmgardening

Finally got the @birdiesgardenproducts metal raised garden bed I got from @epicgardening filled and planted (yesterday)! Got it for my dad for father's day so he doesn't have to keep bending over so far to reach the plants, and also to save money in the long run of not having to build more wooden beds. It has 3 tomatoes (not sure what type), and some cantaloupes I believe and maybe some squash or zucchini. I'm not sure besides the tomatoes (which were mine) because there were no labels on the trays. The seedlings were stressed cause they were in the seedling trays for too long, but they're adjusting well and seem to be doing really well. Fingers crossed they grow and produce a nice crop this season. #raisedgardenbeds #metal #metalgardenbed #vegetablegarden #actuallyfruit #homegrown #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #growyourownfood #growyourgroceries #dormgardening #dvmgardening #gardeningaddict #plantcollection #planttherapy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #growwild

I learned how to make collages on my phone finally 😂😂 First, 2 baby cantaloupes on the vine getting some good size and will soon be ready ðŸĪĪ Second, a bunch of other small cantaloupes on the vines!! Growing all over the place! Looks like I'll have a decent amount of fresh fruit to devour. Third, my watermelon bush/vine is spilling over the side of the bed and is finally flowering. Male flowers at the moment, but hopefully fruit bearing will appear soon. Fourth, look closely at these cherry tomatoes. Do you see what I see? Red color beginning to form!! I can't wait to have tons to snack on. Fifth, the pepper plant I removed from the garden yesterday cause the acorn squash wanted to grow into of it seems to be adjusting really well and seems a lot happier over night in the pot than it did in the garden. (Starting to see baby peppers in the garden, hope this one can catch up) Next, my radish plant that I left in ground to flower and go to seed is beginning to form seed pods! These will give me more than enough for radishes next season and might even try a fall crop. Lastly, the bane of my existence. The "evil" tomato hornworm caterpillars!! ðŸ˜Ą Amazingly I haven't found them on the tomatoes yet, just on my iochroma. Not sure if the chemicals are effecting them but this guy was huge. I'm thinking they store the compounds like the monarch caterpillars do with milkweed. It refused to come off so I just clipped the tip of that branch off and buried the whole thing under the mulch 😂😂 might as well feed the soil!! #gardening #garden #gardeningaddict #gardeninghobby #gardenbeds #containergardening #cantaloupe #pepper #iochroma #watermelon #squash #homegrown #grownfromseed #saveyourseeds #dormgardening #dvmgardening #everyoneshoulddoit #anyonecandoit #planttherapy #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #plantcollection #plantsofinstagram #gardensofinstagram #hornworms #pests #gardenpests #flowers #flowersofinstagram #growwild

My various fruit trees and 2 decorative plants. Not my whole collection but a good chunk. All are growing really well! Just gotta hope they make it through this next week when it's supposed to get +100°F. So gotta make sure I actually get my butt out of bed and water them before the sun gets on them....so before ~10am and preferably closer to 7:30-8am. My banana tree is thriving, and if you couldn't tell there's 6 baby banana trees coming up from the rhizome! Gonna be able to share with my friends pretty readily if I can get the to root and grow after digging them up. My oldest and biggest pomegranate is doing pretty good, I'll probably need to take it out of its pot and re-pot it again with new/fresh soil (mainly cause of settling the level dropped), but that's last on my list. I hope I can get it in the ground in the next 4-5 years. My avocado looks a little sad, took this yesterday evening before I watered it, just needed a good drink. It's growing pretty well and looking bushier. If I get a good greenhouse it will go in the ground one day and hopefully grow even better! Then the big collection: â€Ē3 lemons near the bottom, one of which has thorns â€Ēa pot of starfruit with 4 plants in it. This is the longest I've ever had these plants survive and the best I've ever seen them look. â€Ēa jaboticaba I bought from @logeesplants waiting on my to put it in a new pot, but all the local stores are out of @black_gold_soils potting mix... hopefully soon!!! â€Ēa tiny little avocado cutting you might not be able to see â€Ēa mamey sapote growing from seed that I got from @miamifruit â€Ēan empty looking pot that actually has grapefruit seeds growing in it and just beginning to break through the surface â€Ēa small pomegranate tree I'm trying to model into a nice looking specimen for a bonsai, but might also plant at a friend's house â€Ēa Hawaiian schefflera or umbrella tree, coming back to life after I cut it was back and looking better than ever, grew from a cutting from my dad's tree â€Ēan iochroma I also bought from @logeesplants, hoping to see it flower one day! Not sure if it needs more fertilizer or to be cut back again, but one day it'll bloom!! #plantaddict

When you see new growth in the garden, you can't help but be overjoyed. Cantaloupes are growing strong and beginning to show real growth of the fruit. Both the cherry tomatoes and beefsteak tomatoes are growing incredibly well. This is the biggest tease, not having them ripe yet!! My peppers are beginning to flower, I can't wait for fresh peppers to snack on and cook with. My watermelon vine is putting out serious growth and beginning to flower. The old seed sure took it's time getting ready 😅😅 Pretty sure I found a baby ladybug before it pupates into a mature adult. Also found one of the worst things ever, tomato hornworms!! But it wasn't on my tomatoes. It was on my iochroma I got a few years ago from @logeesplants, which is related to the angels trumpet, meaning it's full of medical compounds we now synthesize in labs (safer and purer that way). So when I plucked it off it was probably feeling really high if not in its last legs cause it barely put up a fight. Buried the caterpillar pest under some mulch to feed to soil microbes and worms. My lettuce is also going to seed, gonna save those for next season. And lastly, another deer found its way in the back yard the other day and helped itself to some hostas and flowers 😂😅 #ediblelandscape #ediblegarden #vegetablegarden #tomato #cantaloupe #watermelon #pepper #iochroma #lettuce #gardenbeds #gardensofinstagram #plantsofinstagram #homegrown #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #growyourownfood #gardeningaddict #gardening #garden #dormgardening #dvmgardening #selfreliance #hornworms #pests #ladybugs #growtime #plantcollection #beneficialinsects #balance #life

Garden is going good, harvested some decent little cucumbers for the past couple days, now to let more of them grow up to size. My garden is going absolutely crazy with life. Just about every plant is putting out tons of growth and flowers and setting fruit. My banana tree is also having the babies growing pretty strong, so once they've gotten fairly big I separated them in an attempt to get them to root and grow new banana plants. Adds a nice tropical feel to the yard. Moved some more seedlings outside too. Mandarins, grapefruit, and limes all grown from seed in that one picture. I then moved my sapodilla seedlings outside too, which you can see one in the next picture. I ended up moving it into a bigger pot to give the roots took to grow. The last picture is just a mass of mushrooms 😂 the fungal life is going crazy with all the woodchips and I couldn't be happier. My trees are loving it and the soil underneath is beginning to look amazing. #outdoorgarden #gardenbeds #gardenbed #ediblelandscape #ediblegarden #permaculture #homegrown #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #vegetablegarden #tomato #cantaloupe #pepper #acornsquash #dormgardening #dvmgardening #growyourgroceries #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #saveyourseeds #gardeningaddict #acorn #squash #pomegrante #apple #banana #tropicalplants

Nothing too major, the garden is just bursting with life. Banana tree, yeah it keeps pumping out growth for the suckers/pups along with it's main stem seeming to put out a new leaf every 3 days. My cantaloupe vines are beginning to set fruit, can't wait for that harvest! Nothing is better than the deliciously sweet taste of fresh and homegrown cantaloupe...except maybe watermelon which isn't flowering yet, but soon! The squash is also beginning to produce! It's acorn squash so it's going to sit on the plant until it naturally dies back. That's how you get your winter squashes to last longer for storage and to taste the best! This plant is also growing from seed I saved last year! Also harvested the first cucumber off the vines today. Not the biggest I've grown, only about half a foot long. I ended up giving about half to my 2 dogs 😂😂 #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #growyourownfood #grownfromseed #saveyourseeds #growyourgroceries #gardenbeds #gardenbed #containergardening #homegrown #gardenfresh #plantcollection #plantseeds #gardeningaddict #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #pollinatorgarden #vegetablegarden #fruit #fruitgarden #homegarden #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #dormgardening #dvmgardening #selfreliance #squash #cantaloupe #watermelon #cucumber

First off, HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!! To all my fellow Americans, I hope you spend the day with loved ones and celebrate how far we have come and the bright future we have before us, We the People. The first couple random pictures are tomatoes and a cantaloupe. I'm letting them grow wild with no help from me (after getting them established, so a couple days after initial planting). I want them to grow ~100% reliant on Maryland's weather so they produce better seeds for the next generations. But I also won't be at a loss if they get eaten by deer. The first video is of grass seed I put down around the retaining wall. It's growing strong, and it's going to help hold any loose soil and prevent erosion. The second video clip are some seed pods from some of the earliest flowers that pop up out front. They're tiny little blue flowers. They sound a bit like a rattler when you shake them just right 😂😂 but I saved some seeds and sprinkled the rest around. Gotta make sure there are enough flowers for all the pollinators!! Then you can see my banana tree has given off 3 baby banana trees. I cut the 2 bigger ones back (but they grew back overnight) to make sure most of the energy goes into the already growing tree in case it can produce edible fruit. And lastly, some wild/feral blackberries are growing in the shade of the back fence. I hope they ripen soon so I can eat them and not lose them to the deer!! #garden #gardening #gardeningaddict #growwild #adapt #wildgrown #ediblelandscape #ediblegarden #dormgardening #dvmgardening #homegarden #homegrown #tomato #tomatoea #cantaloupe #bananas #bananatree #banana #pollinators #pollinatorgarden #flowers #plantsofinstagram #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #saveyourseeds #anyonecandoit #maryland

Peppers are getting ready to put out some flowers and that means delicious peppers!! Can't wait cause I'll have a mix of sweet, bell, and spicy/hot. The cucumber vines are beginning to put out some baby fruit, I seek to find more every day. Going to be delicious and nutritious and full of water! Cherry tomatoes and beefsteak tomatoes are really starting to grow strong and I have a bunch of green tomatoes slowly growing and maturing. I can't wait to harvest them, nothing beats a fresh and homegrown tomato. I also have about a half gallon of raspberries in the freezer, once I get enough we can make jam/jelly that's better than anything you can buy at the store. Lastly? One of a gardener's and homeowner's best friends, the black rat snake. This little guy was about 5'-6' long and uncharacteristically grumpy (probably from the cloudy days in a row). These guys will eat small rodents, and as babies they will also eat bugs. Don't ever kill them!! And I said uncharacteristically grumpy because they are usually fairly calm and docile. Also, don't mess with snakes if you don't know what they are! Even non-venomous ones have painful bites. #gardensofinstagram #garden #gardenbed #homegrown #homegarden #plantsofinstagram #grownfromseed #outdoorgarden #containergardening #raisedgardenbeds #raisedbeds #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #naturalbalance #dormgardening #dvmgardening #tomato #cucumber #raspberry #pepper #growyourownfood #saveyourseeds #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #snakesofinstagram #snakes #ratsnake #gardenersbestfriend

Its a good day with the garden. First is the baby black jewel orchids breaking through the top layer of potting media from the buried cuttings. Gonna give some of these terrestrial orchids to my friend I think. My mamey sapote is growing so strong!! It feels like yesterday it was just peaking out if it's shell and the soil. My avocado cutting is growing strong. Slowly but steady the new leaves are getting bigger. My lemon seedlings are all doing great, and this one really caught my eyes since it was a slower grower originally. My Hawaiian shiflera (umbrella tree) is growing back nice and strong. Since cutting the ugly top off it's now booming with new growth and new nodes are beginning to burst with life. My radish flowers are opening up and the pollinators love it. They have a very delicate smell, and the pollinators didn't care I was there until I tried to take their pictures. Can't wait to collect the seeds! My bush sugar baby watermelon plant is doing great. It's the only watermelon that I have growing from these old seeds. Sugar babies are deliciously sweet so I can't wait to enjoy some when it is ready. It's growth has really kicked up these past couple days. My cucumbers are starting have more female flowers which means more cucumbers! Perfect for a delicious snack or adding to your water, or making homemade pickles! Last 2 are various peppers. They're growing strong and I'm getting impatient for home grown deliciousness. When I find the spicy peppers gonna have to make homemade hot pepper jelly ðŸĪĪ😍 #saveyourseeds #grownfromseed #growyourownfood #growyourgroceries #homegrown #homegarden #grownoutdoors #outdoorgarden #outdoors #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #gardenofplenty #dormgardening #dvmgardening #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy #watermelon #pepper #cucumber #umbrellatree #hawaiianshiflera #avocado #mameysapote #mamey #radish #flowers #pollinatorgarden #orchidsofinstagram #blackorchid

Gotta love seeing home grown food. Raspberry canes are giving off some good sized fruits, currently freezing them until we have enough to make jelly/jam. The tomatoes are growing strong and putting out lots of flowers, baby tomatoes are already forming on the cherry tomatoes too. The cantaloupe vines are growing strong and beginning to grow flowers. The cucumber vines are also growing incredibly well and beginning to show some baby fruit. Can't wait for them to be full grown! Pepper plants are growing strong and bushy. Can't wait to see some flowers and then eventually eat some peppers ðŸĪĪ Lastly it looks like a grape vine cutting I buried under the mulch took root. It's growing and I hope to be able to set this vine up somewhere nice to get more grapes in the future. #homegrown #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #ediblelandscape #ediblegarden #tomato #pepper #cantaloupe #cucumber #raspberry #dormgardening #dvmgardening #homegarden #gardeningaddict #gardeninglife #gardenbeds #containergardening #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #growyourownfood #growyourgroceries

So one of my avocados died 😭 so I removed it and planted some atemoya or cherimoya seedlings in it's place. I also noticed a sapodilla seed has germinated!! The iochroma is growing strong, so I hope it blooms this year. Might need to also wait until I have a greenhouse to put it in the ground, not sure though. My small pomegranate finally got over it's shock of being transplanted and is now pumping out new growth and is looking super happy. Just needs to grow some more before I can trim it and shape it. My mamey sapote seedling is doing amazing!! It's such a beautiful little seedling. So happy seeing it's growth. My banana tree has put out like 5 leaves since I've planted it and has another one coming up. It's growing strong and happy. Wonder if it will produce fruit or just be a decoration ðŸĪ” guess we'll have to wait to find out. Lastly, my oldest pomegranate is just growing beautifully! My Hawaiian shiflera tree, or umbrella tree is putting off some impressive new growth after I started feeding it with @jobesorganics granulated plant food and @azomite 😁 I made the ultimate decision to cut it back since it was getting lanky and took a hot over the winter. But now all the nutrients will go to the new growth and make a healthier and bushier tree that will look better in its pot than the one long trunk did. The radishes that I'm purposefully leaving in the ground are beginning to produce seeds! That means I'll be able to save those seeds for next season (or maybe even late summer and early fall) and not have to spend money on more seeds. The flowers are beginning to appear all over my tomato plants, with the cherries (pictured) really putting out some good growth! Can't wait for fresh tomatoes to snack on. The raspberry bushes/canes are really putting out some decent fruit, got a nice and tasty little haul between the thunderstorms today. Had a toad take a dip in the pool the other day, probably also didn't mind being near some of the garden and pots to eat juicy bugs 😂 Rolly-polly or basketball bugs or pill bugs, whichever you call them, are living the mulch, and they're helping to enrich the soil by breaking it down and feeding the bacteria and fungi and worms. Praying Mantis, not sure if it's the one I released in the garden forever ago or not, but I'm not complaining. It's gonna keep all the pests under control for me. Gotta love beneficial insects. The tomato sprouts I removed and put in the water with @elementnutrients Myco+ are putting on root growth, and I can guarantee it would be even faster if I used a more hydroponic set up that aerated the water too instead of the plain kratky method. The deer jumped the fence last night and are my purple shamrock that was planted in the ground. Guess they didn't like it cause I found it tore out of the ground and had to replant it, at least it had one leaf left. Fingers crossed it survives, I'd love to see it spread on the hillside. But the big pot of purple shamrock is growing great! Spreading it out instead of leaving it clumped up is doing wonders and it's like a little forest! I have a seed from my @miamifruit order that's germinating.... honestly don't remember what it is, but I hope it's a soursop 😁😅 My grapevine has 2 nice clusters growing...let's see if they survive! I'd love some homegrown grapes. Last but not least, I threw a bunch of herb seeds into a little pot and they're finally growing. Looks like dill was the most lively of the seeds as that's what most of this is, but there is also a basil seedling and I think a sage seedling or two. #toad #bug #pillbug #rollypolly #mantis #prayingmantis #bugsofinstagram #amphibians #amphibiansofinstagram #prayingmantisofinstagram #beneficialinsects #garden #gardenbeds #oxalis #PurpleShamrock #tomato #pottedplants #seedling #seedlings #fruitseeds #FruitTree #grape #grapevine #herb #herbs #saveyourseeds #grownfromseed #grownoutdoors #growyourownfood #dormgardening

Beefsteak and cherry tomatoes are sending out their first flowers! A little later than ideal, but can't complain since they were started later than preferred but will still give me plenty to snack on ðŸĪĪ My pomegranate was looking a little to thick, so I decided to trim it up to allow more airflow and sunlight, and to focus nutrients to fewer branches to hopefully flower and fruit. I also topped it off with a @jobesorganics fruit tree slow feeder spike and some balanced pelleted plant food. This won't burn it, but will provide plenty of essential nutrients to flourish and hopefully produce, or at least put on size and better structure. My main goal is to keep it healthy and strong until I finally have my own house and can out it in the ground! I did save the cuttings to try and start some new clones and using the @elementnutrients Myco+ mix for it. It's a balanced nutrient mix with beneficial bacteria and fungi, that's why I use it a lot! Those starfruit seeds and then seedlings of mine? Yeah they've been growing pretty strong so I decided to pot them up. I took the soil from my pot that houses my Tahitian orange and added some peat moss and mixed other nutrients in, like @azomite. I also removed them from the soil they were in to get better spacing and mixed that soil and the @dr_earth_organics root zone it had into the soil blend. First I watered the mix to make sure it was well hydrated and then planted and watered in. Moved them inside to adjust for the next couple days, then I'll move them outside. My mamey sapote seed is germinating!!!! I got it from @miamifruit and wasn't sure if it would germinate since I'm up in Maryland. So exciting!!!! 😍😍 Sadly a baby watermelon seedling was decapitated last night 😭😭 so hopefully some others decide to break through, even though they were old seeds, so I can fill the last spot in my garden bed. Also yes, all these plants were grown from seed, it's possible!! #homegrown #delicious #grownfromseed #grownfromstorebought #grownfromproduce #saveyourseeds #anyonecandoit #everyoneshoulddoit #homewindow #homegarden #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #plantcollection #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantsmakemehappy
