There's no such word as "can't", but thank goodness there's "Can-Am" The 1969 Alan Mann Racing Open Sports Ford is back on British soil and you can see it roar back into action during next weekend's Goodwood 81MM Can-Am Celebration demonstration (13:40BST Saturday 13/4 | 13:50BST Sunday 14/4) 💥 - - - - - The 1969 Open Sports Ford, designed by Len Bailey and built by Alan Mann Racing, was powered by various engines, including a bored-out, small-block Ford and an aluminium 8-litre V8, both using Lucas fuel injection. The Open Sports chassis utilised an aluminium monocoque tub, along with many suspension parts from the Alan Mann Racing F3L project. Initially tested at Goodwood by Frank Gardner and Denny Hulme with the Weslake small-block, the Ford only contested the final two rounds of the 1969 Can-Am Challenge season - which included a podium finish in the Texas International Grand Prix in November 1969, piloted by the legendary Jack Brabham. Yes. This is a very rare Chevrolet Corvair racing car, although that’s just its body. It was built by Frank Gardner from a Lola T332 Formula 5000. In 1977, Frank won five of seven rounds and then in 1978, Allan Grice took over the Corvair seat following Gardner’s retirement. He won four of the seven rounds and tied the score with Jim Richards’ Ford Falcon XC Hardtop. Grice did well in 1979 winning the title and three of nine rounds, but that was it. Changes in the rules forced the structure of the car to be modified. Luke Carlton gonna get you… The double hard bastard returns for the third book to dabble in far right bioterrorism, and it gets a little close to home by the end… The silly but enjoyable trilogy concludes with a jet setting plot to foil that takes the protagonist from Svalbard to Lithuania to Braintree. And he is kicking arse, having his arse kicked, in lots of different countries. Probably not available in the Iranian embassy This is a wonderful, tight, intense and silly spy novel. It isn’t doing anything new but it is treading well worn ground to a high standard. Ex-double hard bastard Luke Carlton works for MI6 in Iran whilst neglecting his really annoying girlfriend back home. It’s probably slightly better than the first book in the trilogy, but it is just a decent modern spy novel. Back from Estoril after a great week-end that could have ended up a bit better. That was the first race with the SCA Camaro and we had to cope with the inevitable teething problems. Main concern the all week end were the brakes with an inconsistent pedal so that we had to play on the safe side. Not ideal while battling on a twisty and narrow track. That said the car felt fantastic. The handling is amazing and sharp for a car of this size, brakes are powerful (when they work) and the engine is a brute force. We started P13 on the grid (brake issue in quali so that we were slower than in free practice). We quickly made our way to P9 and climbed up to P7 mid race before being stopped by electrical issues. The car will perform, this is something we are now sure of. Can’t wait for next season. Like soup. Much like soup, this book was cosy and comforting and hearty and easily devoured. Leaves you hungry after an hour. It’s a decent spy thriller with entirely absurd characters and no concept of the Bechdel test. But, it’s well written and gripping. I, like a chump, have got the other two books of the trilogy to crack on with. And I hate myself that I’ll enjoy every page. Plot? The 250bhp, 2.5 litre #m20b25 #straightsix powered #bmw went on to be raced by Tony Longhurst in the 1986 #australiantouringcarchampionship finishing the season in 5th place. Also that year he placed first in the #amscar series. On fire ! Our first real test at Dijon was a blast, although we have been kicked out because of the mighty ZL1 that seemed to be a bit too noisy. Very frustrating because the morning was dedicated to mid speed laps in order to check the whole car. We finally did only three full speed laps before been asked to leave the track. Given that we need waaayyyy more time behind the wheel, the lap time achieved is very promising. We need to exercice the green beast a lot more but we might enter it at the Dix Mille Tours early September. We’ll see. In short the car is fantastic, it’s better than our previous Camaro in every single area. Will it be enough to play with the Capri GAA and the 24 valves BMW CSL ? Time will tell. Available a pair of original French Le Mans L'Automobile magazine advertising key rings from 1966 featuring photos of a Ferrari 330 P3 and a Ford GT40 MkII. The photos used on the key rings are from the May 1966 Spa 1000KM at Spa Francorchamps which lead up to the 1966 24 Hour of Le Mans. The Ferrari 330 P3 is chassis #0844 which won the 1000KM Spa with Mike Parkes and Ludovico Scarfiotti driving, while the Ford GT40 MkII was the Alan Mann entered chassis #1012 that was driven to 2nd place overall by John Whitmore and Frank Gardner.
