The building on the left with the billboard on the wall is the Astoria ballroom. This later became the Queen’s Theatre and eventually it was owned by the University. We were spending a few days in Killin and driving along the shores of Loch Tay we noticed this lovely little chapel just off the road at Morenish. We found that the chapel was commissioned in 1902 by Aline Elizabeth Todd, wife of Sir Joseph White Todd, Baronet, in memory of her daughter Elvira Todd Henderson, who died in childbirth. Mullach Bi is the third highest hill on Hirta, and rises like a rock fin to 358m above the island's western coastline. The dramatic cliffs tower above the sea, giving it a presence that belies it's modest stature. The rocks that comprise the west of Hirta are the older, harder gabbros. They are distinguished from the softer eastern granite by their dark grey colour and more angular shape, which gives this side of the island it's jagged profile. These photos were taken yesterday from the north and south, with Mullach Bi looking majestic in the soft light of the setting sun.

Day 3 saw Emma and Lewis head out with myself upto the Inn Pin and on to Sgurr na Banachdaich. After a big day the day before, we found a steady pace and headed up the spurr. Lewis was apprehensive yesterday but full of confidence, we all made light work of the walk in. For those who have done the Inn pin, it can be an Intimidating piece of rock that stands proud and Lewis said he'd seen enough. Deciding today wasn't the day, his partner flew up the pin. It takes a lot to say no so well done mate. I know your now more determined to crack it. We made our way over to Sgurr na Banachdaich and headed down. Not quite as chilly as the day but an all round great day. Followed by a meal in The @theoldinnskye to celebrate a great 3 days and some more munros in the bag . Day 2 saw Michael and Louise joined by friends Emma and Lewis. We got Nate onboard and we all met up and headed off..we were soon on the summit, wandering where all the blue skies forecast, were. Onwards northbound to Sgurr Alasdair. A brief stop at the top of the stone chute and both teams made our way over sgurr thearlaich and onto Collies Ledge before topping out on Sgurr Mhich Choinnic. It was Lewis's first time out on the ridge and boy you did good with your fear of heights, showing no fear most of the day. Great work everybody and well done. thank you all for a memorable day. A great few days with Michael and Louise in the chilly northerlies. Day 1 saw us head upto an empty Inn Pin and onto Sgurr na Banachdaich. Great laughs and both smashing the pin with some views that they didnt get on their last visit. . THE SWAN⠀ The Old Man of Muchalls Sea Stack, I have visited the rocky bay at Muchalls quite a few times and try different compositions each time. I haven’t had the conditions I would ideally want but I still really enjoy this area and just need to get the time to visit during golden hour or during a storm to capture the image I am imagining. I am however an advocate for shooting in all types of light and conditions, these images in particular I find interesting as the light available has helped provide detail in the foreground rocks. . . L’Ecosse, pour moi, ç’a été le calme entre deux tempêtes. Celle de l’Amérique du Sud qui a bousculé mon quotidien, mes croyances, mon confort; et celle du retour au travail avec son lot de difficultés et de température anormales. Tout a commencé par 15 jours d’hibernation dans le van entre l’Angleterre et le Pays de Galles. 15 jours, c’est le temps qui nous a fallu pour refaire surface. Pendant cette pause, nous avons écumé les 9 saisons de How I met your mother (pour la 3ème fois), trainé au lit des jours entiers, mangé des sandwichs en pyjama, regardé la pluie et la neige tomber à la fenêtre du van, tricoté un bonnet et une paire de chaussette. Et puis, nous sommes arrivés à Edimbourg sous un beau ciel bleu qui a marqué les écossais. « Vous avez vraiment de la chance d’avoir ce temps là aujourd’hui » nous avait dit le serveur. Travelling by train to go on holiday may not seem like the easiest option. Trains don’t go everywhere up here in Scotland! But there are some excellent routes that are easy for families and have lots of great things to do. We chose to visit Pitlochry by train, staying at the excellent Pitlochry Hostel, run by @hostellingscotland . It’s less than a 10 minute walk from the station, so excellent for those arriving by train. And has great facilities for families. The family rooms consist of bunk beds, we had 2 bunk beds and an en-suite shower/toilet room. Under 18’s must have private rooms, they can’t be in the shared dorms. So you always have a room to yourself with kids. Downstairs are 2 living areas, so you can sit and read, chat and play games together. On one wet afternoon we came back early to dry off and just relax in the living area playing games and reading. There’s also a large dining room beside the well equipped kitchen. In hostels you can cook your own food and eat it in the dining room. Just make sure you label the bags holding your food, so nobody takes it and they can throw it out if you accidentally leave it! Obviously you need to wash your own dishes too. Or if you have kids they can do it for you! 🙈 We had booked the ‘wee breakfast’, which is a continental breakfast with a large range of items. It makes it easier than bringing more food stuff with us! At Pitlochry hostel they have a separate breakfast room for those having the wee breakfast. Right by the garden where you can watch the birds feeding. Hostels are a lot easier for budget travelling with kids. Definitely a great way to explore Scotland, with plenty of room to relax and make your own food. Have you been Hostelling before? Bonus points if it was in Scotland! AD
