Ben Nevis in Fort William, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 At 4,413 ft (or 1,345m), Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in Scotland, the United Kingdom and the British Isles. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I was in Fort William last week because my partner was racing, so thought I'd give Ben Nevis a go. Being something of a couch potato, and having jiggered my knee doing Ben Lomond the week previously, I was only aiming to get about halfway up. Surprisingly, I actually made it onto the summit plateau but, frustratingly, with the end in close sight, I couldn't complete the last little bit because the ground there was steep and covered in compact snow that my shoes just weren't able to get a grip on. Having a realisitc sense of my own abilities, I decided that bit wasn't safe without crampons and came back down. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I might not have technically finished, but I'm still proud of how far I got. Knowing I can actually get that high now, I'm hoping to return in the summer when there will be less snow, and next time I'll know to bring crampons too just in case. From glorious sunshine in the morning to blizzards in the afternoon you got to love the Scottish weather 🤦 but that’s another 5 in the bag , wasn’t the ones I had planned but when realised how close some of the other Munros were I decided to change my plan and hit the 4 Ben Lawer Munro’s and then headed to the 5th Munros of the day Meall Nan Tarmachan from the north . Definitely regretted that after spending what felt like hours climbing through bogs and heather and then fighting through blizzards to the top of the summit . What a bustling week it's been here at the shop, filled with the joyous chatter of walkers stopping by for some refreshments! 🚶‍♂️☀️ We had the pleasure of hosting a delightful group of ladies trekking along the St Cuthberts Way, all in support of The Charlie Waller Trust. Our trusty gazebo was set up and securely fastened in our back garden, eagerly awaiting to provide shade and shelter for our weary travelers. And who better to be the first to give it a whirl than our beloved shop mascot, Bob? 📍Shenavall Bothy Fisherfield spam continues (as do my stiff legs from the walk). Two nights spent in Shenavall Bothy might not be for those who want a quieter time however this was a pretty special place to base our walk from. What with it being midweek we didn’t expect many people, but there was a fair crowd both nights. Everyone had different, fairly big hill objectives meaning bed time was civilised. The night before our walk we got to chat to those returning and then a man who was doing some neighbouring Corbetts lit the fire especially for us getting back after we’d done the massive round. Hidden by the giants until the last corner, the bothy comes on you suddenly on the walk in. We could, however, see it teasing us for about 3.5km on the way back, and 1km of that was spent navigating the deep, swampy slime that was the final hurdle between us, the fire and our sleeping bags (and the celebratory drams 🥃). Had a good laugh reading the bothy book and seeing many people mention the ‘swarms of midge’ and felt pretty smug that we’d had a midge free stay in such a wild bothy. One I’ve looked forward to visiting for a while and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The walk out after our mountain day, however, was the longest 7.5km of my life…doesn’t help you need to reascend and descend almost 400m! 🏠 ⛰️ 🌅

📍Fisherfield Munros What a way to kick off the summer hill season, Fisherfield 6 ✔️ Two nights in Shenavall bothy, one Corbett, five Munros, a 15 hour day and 31km through every terrain you can imagine, endless boulders and 1km of the deepest bog you’ve ever seen between you and the bothy right at the end of the day. One of those rounds you anticipate for a good while and it lived up to every expectation. 2015 - Blair Atholl - Scotland Blair Castle is exactly what a Scottish castle ought to look like and is the ancestral home of Clan Murray and, historically, is the seat of the Duke of Atholl (although, due to various family shenanigans, the current {12th} Duke {Bruce} is South African and only visits occasionally). I have to confess that we’ve never actually been round the Castle! We did, however, do a LOT of walking, which was simply glorious. The grey pony was/is used to bring deer carcasses down from the more remote hills which even all-terrain vehicles can’t get to - just check out its muscles!. It might still be a bit chilly outside, but these little fellas definitely warm up the heart! I know, it's a baby sheep (for those that don't know I've been quite scared of sheep but am coming to terms with them 😂 )but I do love to see the lambs out in the spring. What's your OG when it comes to self care? 🤔 My old faithful, is getting away from my desk and into nature... I'm lucky to live in Scotland, where I reckon you're never more than 30mins from a forest 🌲🌳🌲. Yesterday, I went for a wander at Loch Faskally, just outside Pitlochry.
