🪴 Reflecting Over The Garden Since Growing From Seed ✨ I’ve been doing a lot of looking back over the thousands of pictures I’ve taken of my garden since I decided to grow from seed back in autumn 2021 and how much my garden’s changed so much from a relatively empty space to somewhere where I’ve got a tiny space on the patio to sit and watch the world go by. My plan for this year was to go big or go home and I’ve definitely met that brief, too much so really but by doing that I’ve seen more wildlife & also some new things come into my little piece of paradise that I’ve created. Back in spring this year I sowed lots of perennial seeds then in June I sowed biennials for next year. My plan is to add more perennials to my garden with a splash of annuals in the hope to make my garden more attractive to pollinators & wildlife of all kinds, I also want to make my garden work more for me. With having a number of chronic illnesses I’ve found this years garden too overwhelming that unfortunately I’ve not been able to do what I’ve wanted to do in it. However on saying that it’s brought so much joy & happiness. The first 5 pictures are from summer 2022 and the remainder from this year, they tell 2 very different stories in my eyes and I need to find a happy medium between the gappy summer 2022 garden & the overloaded summer 2023 garden. Having a fully container garden is so much more hard work & maintenance than a normal garden, it gives you so much more flexibility to swap and change things up without causing stress to the plants. If I ever had the change to create a normal garden I don’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I’m always moving my pots & containers around the garden. Over all I’m really happy with what I’ve grown & created the last few years - it just needs a little tweaking here & there. Have you been doing any reflection on your gardens over the years? First garden project of 2023 complete ✅ I’d had enough of the sh*t corner and decided to rip it all out and start again. This semi-shady corner just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. Ripping out well established shrubs isn’t for everyone, but the shrubs were getting too big and I wanted something different. All the shrubs went to my neighbour, who was more than happy to take them off my hands. After months of buying new plants and storing them on the patio, I finally got to plant them out. It’s been a long time since my last update on the working side of our garden renovation but we now have a little more progress. As you know when renovating anything there is an order of play, the next job can only happen when the first job has been completed (a format) but sadly our renovation went on hold when the first part of the job couldn’t be completed because of a minor hiccup. Keep up! Anyway we are now back on track, so the land at the top is now being cleared, the old shed roof has been finished and the new shed base has just be laid. I tackled this raised area when we started the front garden make over in the first lockdown. The agave were babies kingly given to me by a mate, and the succulents were from another part of the garden. @daddyaardvark working on one of the last border beds while I was off bring @3catsphoto yesterday! Since we always love to have 1 million peppers this bed is going to be our pepper bed. It’s about 6‘ x 8‘ so we can fit quite a few more plants. When daddy aardvark isn’t building garden structures he is making some pretty killer candied hot 🌶

We moved into our house in the year 2000 with three children under 4 and our garden looked like pics 2&3. The house needed major work too and that was our priority. I wish I’d taken more photos of how it all looked! The top bit of the garden we finally finished last year - 20 years later!! In between, it was a kids playground and a football pitch and it evolved with our family. Now it’s a lovely area for relaxing and entertaining and we all love it. It was worth the wait! Transformation Tuesday! I’ve dug out a couple more before and after photos (no pun intended 😉) this time of the main garden. The first pictures are after work started on converting the farmer’s field to garden. The first picture is late autumn last year, then a winter shot and the early work pictures in 2006. Another sunny day must only mean one thing- more garden photos! It was the first garden we have ever worked on and enjoyed every little bit of it. I don’t think there’s anything more satisfying than turning an outdoor space into another room where you can enjoy warm evenings. We built the boarders and brightened up the space with white stone. Used some of our reclaimed brick to build a pizza oven and a barbecue. Oh and what’s that orange thing hanging on the tree!? It’s the caccoon!!! Happy Saturday everyone! It’s good to go back and relive the beginning, the pain & fully appreciate the now 😆 #transformationtuesday 💫 🙌🏼 👉🏼👉🏼 Pics in reverse chronological order. After years of chatting and debating we joined up with our neighbours to carry out a joint side return extension to our Victorian terraces. The build started June 2019 & almost finished before lockdown, cladding & some other bits had to wait & we completed May 2020. (Although is it ever ‘done’ I see you patio that needs edging 🧐) We shared architects & a builder + a joint planning application was easier to get approved (although took best part of a year). We are so happy to have a new old home & lockdown gave us a chance to paint fences and sort the garden that was in a horrendous state after the works (pic 5 😳) Now we can sit and enjoy it 😎👌🏼
Back at work today after a magical week off so spent the day dreaming about getting back in here tonight. ❤️ I wanted to put up fence panels to give us more privacy this summer but didn’t get around to doing it, so popped these lovely trellis’ up from Ikea and decorated them with cheap artificial flower garlands and lights from amazon instead. One thing I’m most proud of is our garden transformation. These 3 photos are all taken in the same position just at different times. This is because I was the main renovator for the garden. Renovating this garden was full of blood, sweat & tears. Some tantrums too I won’t lie 😂🙈. It’s not completely finished yet but I’m totally in love with the space we’ve got now & everything was DIY except the driveway. Even the wall was built by my husband. It’s a hot but breezy morning today, so I’m sitting in the shade at the opposite side of the garden to where I normally sit. Last year when I sat here the middle of my garden was just grass with the Red Bud I got for my birthday the previous autumn. Now I have 2 beautiful butterfly and hummingbird gardens that have been transforming all summer. Almost all the plants are loved by butterflies, hummingbirds, dragonflies and/or bees and have been providing enjoyment for me and sustenance for them all summer. I also planted a couple of evergreens so I have something green to look at from the patio window during the winter! The Red Bud will hopefully provide dappled shade in a year or two. Here's our garden in September 2016, then building work in progress, first phase in 2017, new landscaping 2019, into this week with the panoramic doors fully open in the sunshine. I have been in the house for 15 years. Bought all by me as a singleton, its seen me date, go through career changes, meet my husband, him to move in, us to get married, see a long time fur buddy pass, a new one come along and then the birth of our little boy. In all this time my garden, although small has been a constant (and that bloody garden furniture it seems 😂). I got something in my eye writting that!
