They can shapeshift to look like other beings, including handsome men, so if you see a man with seaweed in his hair, run! I don't know if I'd actually take my own advice with that...... 😁 I think there was even a theory that the Loch Ness monster was a kelpie. 🦕 I did a little bit of experimenting with this one, using acrylic inks, which I haven't used before. They give great colour, it's very saturated and vibrant, so I think it'll last me a while. My favourite process ❤️ I have fallen in love with the imperfections of printmaking. This is a two plate print, acetate etching using etching tool and sandpaper, and a carborundum plate for the hair. This was my first attempt at carborundum, I used a mix of carborundum and PVA, it definitely would have worked better with acrylic medium but I almost loved the fact that parts of it came away during the printing process 🧡 I also used wiping to create lines in such a way that it left a halo around the head. Hispanic folklore and mythology of Latin America come to life at Pacific Park Library in Glendale, CA, Thursday, June 08�3:00pm - 4:00pm 501 South Pacific Avenue Glendale, Glendale, CA, 91204 Boxtales Theatre Company is a storytelling theatre company that uses masks,movement, storytelling and live music to present myths and folklore from around the world. ABOUT Boxtales Theatre Company is directed by renowned Mexican theatre artist Sigfrido Aguilar, explores the rich indigenous and Hispanic folklore and mythology of Latin America. The stories include La Calavera from Mexico, and Paco and the Witch from Puerto Rico. The program also includes an Afro-Cuban rhythmic composition. Masks, designed by Ann Chevrefils, are worn by the actors to enhance the qualities and expressions of the characters they portray. The production, created in Guanajuato, Mexico, is performed in both English and Spanish. This program is presented in partnership with The Music Center. We welcome persons with disabilities to participate in all our programs and events. PARKING Limited library parking is available onsite. Newton’s apple tree outside the entrance to Trinity College, Cambridge, planted in 1954 and grafted from the original famous ‘Flower of Kent’ in the orchard at Woolsthorpe Manor, Lincolnshire. After returning home from university during an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague, Newton was in his orchard when a falling apple caused him to contemplate why it always fell down to the ground, an idea that developed into his theory of universal gravitation which he published many years later in Principia. It’s the stuff of myth and folklore with many varied accounts. Here is William Stukeley’s, since he was a good friend of Newton’s and our favourite archaeology scholar, who also wrote Memoirs of Sir Isaac Newton’s Life (1752): ‘After dinner, the weather being warm, we went into the garden, and drank tea under the shade of some apple trees, only he, and myself. Amidst other discourse, he told me, he was just in the same situation, as when formerly, the notion of gravitation came into his mind. "Why should that apple always descend perpendicularly to the ground," thought he to himself: Occasion'd by the fall of an apple, as he sat in a contemplative mood: "Why should it not go sideways, or upwards? But constantly to the earths centre? Assuredly, the reason is, that the earth draws it. There must be a drawing power in matter. And, the sum of the drawing power in the matter of the earth must be in the earth’s center, not in any side of the earth. Therefore does this apple fall perpendicularly, or toward the centre. If matter thus draws matter; it must be in proportion of its quantity.
