. . 🌸🌷Pink Wednesday🌷🌺 💗First Quarter Favorites💗 I recognize it's almost the end of April, so timing-wise, it's more like "1st trimester favs," but I did choose these last month & all were at least started January - March. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The 4 to the left are rereads. I read each when it first came out, or even before (thank you so much @netgalley and @knopf for the eARC of Wellness all the way back in June!), loved, and then decided to listen and/or revisit in print. The rereads confirmed they are all five star reads for me! The 8 to the right? First time reads; 6 fiction, 2 memoir. All 4 or 5 star reads that I loved and/or am still thinking of. I've previously reviewed several; others are forthcoming. After reading The Luminaries and then Birnam Wood, I believe Eleanor Catton is enormously gifted. She's now an auto-buy author for me! I LOVED Apple TV’s Slow Horses, which led me to Mick Herron’s spy series of the same name. Color me amazed, because I’m now a big fan of this British spy thriller writer! Family, Family will be one of my top reads of the year. Frankel’s got a uniquely recognizable writing style that allows us beautiful access to marginalized children. Read this. How did I, an English major, teacher, and tutor, never get to Middlemarch? Thanks to @jen.loves.books for the buddy read--so happy to have read this touchstone of a novel of British life, and know I will revisit it. Sociopath and How To Say Babylon, both memoirs, share only a genre, but each consumed me. Patric Gagne is a brilliant storyteller and a highly educated therapist who gives us unlimited access to her sociopathy; Sinclair’s poetic prose spins a stunning tale of escaping religious fervor and cultural constraints via education and a refusal to be silenced. There’s nary a misstep in Claire Keegan’s powerful little novels; this short story trio is the same. Chiamando Ngozi Adichie is problematic with her views on trans people, and the conundrum of the artist vs the artistic creation is present here. Nevertheless, Half of a Yellow Sun is a masterful, fictionalized chronicle of the Biafran War and I am grateful to have read it. [Giveaway clue in stories today! 👀]

These #echeveriaperlevonnurnbergvariegata lovelies have been with me since Jan 2021. Though I’ve chopped them twice only because their stems were too long and both times all of their stems just shriveled up and died! 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️😔 Thanks to the plant goddess, the rosettes were always ok after they were chopped. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (3.5) Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson This was a cute romance but I didn't feel the romance plot and the serial killer references jelled well. I enjoyed elements don't get me wrong but weirdly I think I'd have preferred it if all the mentions of serial killers were removed (and I am a true crime fan and love thrillers and books about murderers!) I just didn't think it bought anything to the storyline. I liked the book but it was a bit cliché with a female protagonist who is afraid to love and a male love interest who falls first (that is a trope I do like though) and of course a HEA. I enjoyed the sub plot of her finding friendship again with an estranged childhood friend and the sub plot of helping her brother with his love life. Sam was a worthy fictional "book boyfriend". There is some spice to this book also, it is not closed door.
