Decided to hit a bit of a Strongman themed workout tonight. Started off the workout with a 3RM power clean + push press. I tried to hit 100kg, but I lost my groove on the third rep. I then moved on to some yoke walks with my @herd.sa yoke rack. Not sure what the yoke itself weighs, but I loaded up 200kg of plates for a few sets of there and backs (around 10m one way). Finally I finished off with a 10 minute EMOM of sandbag over bar with my 90kg sandbag. I did 4 reps in the first and final minutes with the remaining minutes consisting of 2 loads. Really enjoyed this workout, and I will miss working out with my barbell and rack. I am thinking of documenting my journey into minimalist training with a strongman bag and kettlebell at my new remote site, and I might release the programming aftrrwards. FitCon Post FitCon was bittersweet for me. I went in with two goals. First, to not come in last. Second, to not zero any events. I came in last and zeroed two events. Because it’s human nature to focus on failure more than success I keep having to remind myself that the three events I didn’t zero in were all PRs for me. The Yoke went nearly 4X further than it had in training, sandbags went faster and smoother (on the second go of it lol) and the Dinnie stone implements we used were nothing like we trained with and I was still able to nearly lock out a 16 lbs pr. Even the atlas stone was a PR, I’d never broken that stone off the ground before. However, I still didn’t make my two goals. So it’s time to train harder and get stronger. This is probably my last event day before the competition in 2 weeks. Not as perfect as I’d like but I’m feeling good about the competition in general 1: log ladder with 120 and 130lbs (top two comp weights). I’m feeling good about being able to rep out the 130 a few times. 2: 165lbs sandbag (10 under comp weight) for a couple reps. I know I can do better at this but I need to focus on a good pick. I also ran the husafell but didn’t get videos. Event #2 for the Strongest on the Prairie is Yoke to Sandbags Over Bar Medley 🦬 ••• Athletes will pick and walk a Yoke for thirty feet, go back, pick up sandbag number one, carry it to the Yoke, clear it over the bar, then repeat for sandbag number two. The back of the Yoke must clear the finish line. Sliding of the Yoke will result in a two-second penalty. Athletes can make as many picks on the Yoke and/or Sandbags as they want. Elbow and forearm sleeves, soft and hard belts, grip shirts, wrist wraps, gloves and spray tack are allowed. Use of stone tacky will result in disqualification. If the athlete doesn’t complete the event, Yoke will be measured to the back or Sandbag will be measured to where it was dropped. Events 4 and 5 of the Southeast Strongman Classic. It wasn’t a terrible performance, but I’m not satisfied with it. With the Husafell I should have worried less about my grip because it was fine and focused on my speed. The sandbag, I should have got my hands set under the bag deeper before pulling, that cost me time having to reset. And again, don’t worry about grip, lean forward and go. The farmers carry same thing, my grip was fine, I should have leaned forward, I had plenty in the tank you can see me pick the pace up at the end to finish that last 50ft.
