Connecticut’s Strongest Man at @lightningfitness860 hosted by @millsfitness is in the books. It was a well organized/run show (especially with over 70 competitors!) and I’m thankful to Matt and all of the volunteers that made it possible. I competed in the Master’s 40+ with 10 awesome strength athletes in an open weight class. I gave it everything I had and I attempted to stay present in the moment to focus on the things that were under my control. I was prepared and executed my game plan to the best of my ability, but the results weren’t there. I had nothing short of being on the podium, but I ended up in a tie for 5th place. Events in order (everything had a 60 second time limit): *Alternating Log (220lbs) & Circus Dumbbell (120lbs): 4th place w/6 total reps. In training I got 5 reps. *Deadlift for Reps (405lbs): 4th place w/16 reps. In training I got 13 reps. *Yoke Walk (500lbs) for 50’: 8th place w/10.42 seconds. In training I was getting a little over 11 seconds. *Frame Carry (500lbs) for 50’: 7th place w/8.60 seconds. In training I was getting 13 seconds. *Atlas Stone Series (205, 225, 245, 268, 282): 3rd place w/all 5 stones in 25.34 seconds. Never mimicked the full run, but wanted sub 30 seconds. Even though the placing wasn’t where I wanted it to be, I did better in every event than what I did in training so it was a win in that sense. Every competition is a learning experience so this one is no different. Wales strongest man u90kg done and dusted @warehousegymswansea Thanks @chris_ware_house for a cracking venue Came away on top with 4 event wins, couldn't ask got more than that. Event 1 max deadlift pulled 310 as that took first with a lift to spare 🏆 Event 2 dumbell for reps stopped at 6 as that was all I needed 🏆 Event 3 320 yoke, took 4th which I was okay with as its something I need to work on Event 4 sandbag over 4m 🏆 Event 5 240 frame, Moved well but some good runs from the others -5th Event 6 loading medly 100kg sack 120kg sack 240kg sled 🏆 Training for this comp as been an absolute blast mainly due to @thumpa_todd2, he's helped me all the way with advice and it's paid off, can't thank him enough, couldn't ask for a better training partner and mate. Competed at The Barns Strongest 2 yesterday and placed 2nd 🥈 in the Open 231 weight class. After having to get hernia surgery in at the end of last year and missing this gyms comp in December I’m happy I was able to come here this weekend and do well. I got my Loadable Atlas stone fixed yesterday so had to give it a try today. Grass was wet from so the rain so couldn't get a second rep with any of my sets because my hands were slipping on a wet stone but still had so much fun. My body is a mess right now and I had to call an audible on my programming due to the snow, but all in all this evening felt ok. Did a few sets of trap bar deads at around comp height for car deadlift. Had to go strapless due to the wrist pain, but that just helps prep for the max frame carry event 🙃. Then did a couple of static frame holds, and some short duck walks with holds. @runningstrongman gave me some great cues to help with those and it helped IMMENSELY!!! Had a long work day picking up admissions for the weekend, then enjoyed a late night training session. I’m eager to get in with a physical therapist for my wrist next week, but trying my best to chug along until then. Today was my first training session since the last competition that felt like there was some modicum of intensity. 🚨 Guinness World Record attempt! 🚨 @guinnessworldrecords The fastest time to carry a 400kg frame on a 10m incline! 💪 I was called in last minute to replace one of the two athletes as he got sick just the day before the rehearsal. I lost to @evansthehulk arguably one of the fastest strongman in the World right now and surely a true brother to me. Win or lose to him it just makes me equally happy. Comp recap! 2nd place and a good day! . Event 1 - Max mammoth bar deadlift. 3rd place. 810.6 for my second attempt. Unfortunately I picked up a small injury in my back here and didn't take a third attempt. Was looking for 830-850ish . Event 2 - 660 frame into 285 or 315 log for reps. Unfortunately between slick handles and grip being a weakness I got 4th here. Only one guy even finished the frame and only 3 of us could even stand up with it. . Event 3 - Sandbag Medley. 220,250,300,350. I got 1st here. 4 in 49 seconds. I really wanted a rep on the 350, but unfortunately my back was in A LOT of pain trying to lap it . Event 4 - Bag toss. I believe 20 - 65. 2nd here. 5 in 34 seconds. First one caught my fingers on release, that was EMBARRASSING hahaha . Event 5 - Power stairs. 325,370,395. 1st here too. 9 in 18 seconds flat.
