One of the best ways for a potential student athlete and a coach to evaluate each other is via a prospect day or clinic. It’s a great way to see if you like the campus, the culture, the coach’s style and the current players. Recruiting is a two way street! Summer camps and prospect days are also starting to drop in and the NCAA D1 recruiting calendar will shift from contact to evaluation status for much of the summer. The first 2 weeks of August were a recruiting shutdown last year, once the 2024-25 NCAA D1 recruiting calendar is released we’ll know if that will happen again this summer. Be mindful of the dates if you are attending try-out based events during this time with the intent of being seen by D1 coaches. Just a reminder to fill out the recruiting forms for the programs that are on your list to get notified when their camp registrations are open. Keep an eye on their social media accounts and on the program’s website for camp info as well. We try to post as many as we find to our story with links if we have them. Building Athletic Potential Athleticism is defined as an athlete's ability to effortlessly MOVE through SPACE while performing a SKILL. Hence, we can measure athleticism in two general ways, QUANTITY and QUALITY of movement. Quantity can be viewed as an absolute measurement (EXTERNAL). For example, a bigger kid will generally have an advantage in strength, speed, and power of movement. Quality can be viewed as a relative measurement (INTERNAL). An athlete will demonstrate great quality through finesse, efficency, and control of movement. Med Ball Explosive & Speed Training 9 Moves NFL pro @kooyounghoe . Here’s an explosive full body workout from Koo’s offseason. Notice we still emphasize the Big 7 Foundational Movement Patterns even though we may focus more on power or speed etc. The Big 7 are squat, hinge, lunge, horizontal push & pull, and vertical push & pull. More in my book MOVEMENT REDEFINED at link in bio. Once you master these foundational movement patterns with 90 degree eccentric isometrics your ability to maximize the effectiveness of explosive power movements will be exponentially greater. In fact we use the 90 deg EI method quite a bit when doing actual speed exercises by using the eccentric holds to coil & squeeze into the position with co-contraction before launching into the concentric. The 9 Exercises. 1.Medicine Ball 90 Degree Eccentric Isometrics Single Leg Squat into Rotational Chest Pass. 2. Reverse Sprinter Lunge + Knee Drive on Open Trap Bar @repfitnessequipment 3. Coming back to the Bay Area was the best decision ever! Being able to help younger athletes (especially females- as I’ve been working at an all boys high school the past decade) has given me more joy than I could have imagined! I’ve worked with these young ladies for a couple of months now with weekly speed training. I love watching their progress in my sessions, but to be honest, nothing compares to watching them play on the field and seeing them compete! I LOVE watching athletes demonstrate their talents in their sports, but I’d much rather watch athletes I have trained play, rather than watching the pros! Ladies you all were amazing!! The skills that you all possess are far greater than what I ever had and you’re only in middle school! It’s an honor to work with you and help you in your journey!
