Tourette Scotland are always very proud of our training team as you will know, however it has to be said that the feedback and response from one of our most recent training sessions needs to be shared. Sarah and our honorary member and guest trainer Bea recently took the Scottish DWP by storm training around 60 staff as part of their training day. [TW: ED] This week is Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2024. Food plays a major part in our lives. For a lot of us, eating things we enjoy, satisfying cravings, and planning our meals bring us a huge amount of joy and pleasure. But food habits can also, dangerously, dictate our lives. Whether it’s emotional eating, over/under eating, food obsession and addiction, purging, or the rarely talked about avoiding/restricting (the focus of this year’s awareness campaign) - when food begins to consume our day-to-day, it can quickly escalate into a disordered relationship with our bodies. Though there are many contributing factors to the development of an eating disorder, including hormonal imbalances and genetic components, our social interactions play an enormous role in how we see ourselves. Whether that’s at home, in friendship circles, or what we view in the media - we’re constantly being confronted with expectations as to how we should look, and how we should feel about how we look. This week is incredibly important for raising awareness about the cause, the prevalence, and the support we can access for and around eating disorders. When you look at the things you to today, do you ever compare that to what you want for tomorrow? Or do you accept that life today is just what it is? Do you love your life today, but want more for tomorrow? Did you know that's not selfish? The more you have, the person you become in aiming towards that "more" means you have more to give, to your family, friends, animals, the world, whatever your thing is. You can love your life now, and still want more. You can be ok with your life now and know you want better. In fact, becoming ok with, and loving at least some areas of your life today, is one of the most important things in getting to having, and being more. Your desire to have more, does not in any way mean someone else has to take less. And, watching someone else go after all the way, and get it, doesn't mean you're somehow limited. That scarcity mindset never has and never will serve you. Decide today what you want tomorrow, and make a plan to go after it. Make smallllll goals to start if you're like me and get easily overwhelmed by a giant picture! But do it. And then, work on becoming the person who will have the things, because when you BE, you get❤️

You. Don't. Need. Motivation. Motivation is fickle. It's lazy. It might show up when life is convenient, but when life gets real, it's inconveniently on vacation. What you DO need, is consistency You need to start with ONE THING, track it, see chains of days in a row of doing that One Thing, and not want to break that chain. Trying to start 5 things at once is a great way to burn out on all of them. You need to take action FIRST, which will give you a dopamine hit, will give you confidence, will make you go "I did that!" and THEN you get motivated to feel that way again. Even if your first attempt was a "failure", you still get that internal reward of "I started!" The new year might have felt like it motivated you to start a new exercise program (again?) Eating and drinking too much over New Year's might have felt like motivation to eat more salads, but how's that going now when that feeling of blahhhhh is a bit in the past? Collllllld January mornings are going to seriously challenge your motivation to get your workout done before work. A really bad night's sleep is going to seriously challenge your motivation to eat your apple and almond butter instead of grabbing the donuts. Pick one thing. Write it down to check off daily. DO the thing Get a streak going Motivation might show up to help push you along, but only developing the habit of consistency will actually get you results.

Signs, do you spot the signs that are being shown to you? Do you notice them? Sometimes it's only as the future unfolds that you realise the signs that were shown to you. I know myself that I can now look back on the timeline of my life so far and remember where I was given a sign....where perhaps I was shown signs and never took action...... times when I never followed up on my intuition I can now look back and know where the universe has nudged me, guided me or abruptly taken things out of my control when I clearly ignored the signs I was being gifted.... I know with absolute certainty that there is something more guiding me to where I am meant to be, because I've looked back, I've noticed.... And now I pay attention to EVERY sign I am shown I know for myself these signs literally "JUMP OUT" at me, I know absolutely 100% when a sign shows itself to me And I know with absolute trust and faith that a sign I have seen recently in a clients house is about to shift me out of my comfort zone once again You see, I know my purpose, I know my mission, I have a vision, clear as day in my mind's eye..... what I don't know is the HOW, and yet I know the HOW is irrelevant There are no coincidences in life Keep an eye on my page this week, I'm going to share my signs over the last few years.....because I want YOU to notice the signs you are being shown.... Are you set up to succeed on even your worst day? Any reasonable health and fitness program works pretty well when everything is going right. But what about when things DON'T go right? What about when you... 👎forget to take chicken out of the freezer 👎hit snooze 7 times 👎eat 6 slices of pizza when the plan was 1 slice and a big salad ⁠ Long ago, I heard a phrase that went something like this: "Everything's easy on your best days, but what's your plan for success on your worst day?" How many times have you started losing weight, or just got back to the gym, and the day that things got hard, you stopped? Did you know that the 2nd Friday in January has an official name? Quitter's Day And it's this Friday, January 12 Its name comes from the fact that the vast majority of people who set New Year's Resolutions, quit on that 2nd Friday in January. ❤️That's why I do what I do ❤️ ✅To help you actually plan for failures, acknowledge them, know they are N O R M A L, and help you move on to the next minute. ✅To not only figure out what your ideal plan is, but what to do when things go South. It's easy to say "here's the perfectly structured program with the perfectly structured and customized nutrition plan, go forth and get healthy!" But it's another to be there when you eat all the fried foods and have 4 cocktails, and remind you - it's just one day. Because you WILL have "fail" days, and I don't want that to be your Quitter's Day. Do you have a Worst Day plan?

"Those protein pancakes you had for breakfast are about to leave your body!" (yes I DID have Kodiak protein pancakes for breakfast!) And he was right😳 The last 10 minutes or so of today's workout was using up allll the glycogen stores in my muscles. And that's the point It's the point of this program anyway. This is part of how you lose weight with exercise. MOST of it will be lost in the kitchen, but don't let anyone tell you that the right kind of exercise compounds the effect I know some people do serious weight lifting so they can EAT, because they love to eat, and volumes of food is their love language. There's a happy medium to all this: the right kinds, and amounts, of food + the right kind of exercise for your current goals. Yes, you can lose weight simply by putting yourself into a calorie deficit. BUT... ...unless you're also exercising with some focus on building and maintaining lean muscle mass, you can slow down your metabolism due to muscle loss, which makes it harder, and harder, and h a r d e r to eat in a calorie deficit 😫 Besides, there are SO MANY physical - AND MENTAL - health benefits to exercise, and healthy muscle, whyyyyy would you avoid that? ✅Sure it's hard ✅Yes it takes time But so is living with the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle, and allowing the aging process to sneak up on you because you weren't working on staying 1 step ahead. 💪Lift the weights. 💦Drink your water. 🍇Eat healthy food and learn to make it tasty. Yes it takes time, but time passes anyway. Do yourself a favor, and just do the things ❤️

Why did you push play today? Why did you choose a meal that supports good health? Why did you choose a personal growth podcast episode this morning? Why didn't you? I bet you have 1 or more goals around 1 or all 3 of those topics. I mean, isn't that what January is for?😆 But I heard a fantastic comment on a podcast this morning: 🔥 "Goals bring out your stories" - Kristen Boss 🔥 And yikes, that literally made me stop in my tracks while I was feeding horses while listening😳 ❓Why didn't you push play? Maybe your story is you need to scroll social media for 30 minutes in the morning for "me time" that keeps you connected to friends. ❓Why did you choose pizza over the chicken salad you said you'd have? Maybe your story is that you hate to cook and it takes too much time. ❓Why did you choose to read the latest 16 screenshot rant your FB friend posted, instead of spending 10 minutes on a podcast episode how our stories get in the way of our goals? Maybe your story is that PD is for broken people and you're just fine. Setting goals is easy, and simple. Doing the work to make the goals reality, that's where the personal growth really kicks in. W2D1 kicked my BUTT this morning. It doesn't matter that it was the exact same workout as last Monday. The whole point is to dig deeper not just each workout, but week over week. 🫣If you want to learn more about yourself, if you want to be asked questions that make you do "oh crap, I don't really want to answer that" (but secretly you really do), then you need to set goals.... ...and you need to WORK on them. Do you want to lose weight and be strong, or Do you want to lose weight and have your weight return? You can lose weight by diet alone. I can promise you it gets harder and harder to do that. By building muscle, challenging yourself, and eating to fuel your health goals (which can be a LOT more food than you think, when you choose appropriately!) you’re GOING to increase your metabolism and burn through some of your fat stores. I totally understand that you think you have to exercise for an hour a day to get any results, because that was actually the best info put out at one point in time! What ends up happening is either: 🚫You don't start because who has an hour a day! OR 🚫You get started, and then burn out trying to carve out that much time 3 or 4 or 5 days a week, so you just quit 😞 This makes you to feel guilty that you can't magically find that much time, that often, to do what you KNOW you need to do. It makes you feel like you're the problem, because why is it that so many others seem to have that much time? Do you know how much time I work out? 💪Usually only around 30 minutes. 💪Sometimes 20. 💪SOMEtimes 45 It's been yearrrrrs since I regularly worked out for close to an hour, let alone longer. And by "sometimes" I mean in a given program I'm doing. MOST of the women I work with, work out for around 30 minutes, sometimes 20, sometimes longer. And our longer workouts are our CHOICE, to do something different, because that amount of time fits into the season of our life and we want to do that specific program. Not because we HAVE to. And yet, we have all managed to change our body composition in one way or another, without having to spend 1 hour exercising. 2 of my best transformations came from 30 minute programs 😊 So, how DO we manage to stay fit, and I mean fit, not just able to get through your daily work, without that hour? By choosing programs that have been designed with the latest research on what it takes to be effective AND efficient. And it doesn't take an hour to get the job done well. If this sounds like what you've struggled with, if this sounds like exactly the obstacle you've hit, then DM me and I'll show you the solution, because you deserve to be fit and heathy without giving up hours of your day to do it.

Are you using character as an excuse to not get uncomfortable?🤔 Yep, it's a tough question, and I never heard it put quite that way until listening to a podcast this morning. You are known for a set of things, whether it's love of facts, or wine, or running, or not being a morning person. And, you're using those as excuses for why you can't do something different🫣 Are you using "I love 🍷 too much" as an excuse for not making some improvements to your diet? You're making it an all or nothing deal (perfectionist mentality, it needs to stop, I'm guilty too!), and you're using that as a coverup for knowing it will be uncomfortable to change. Are you using "I can't 🏋️‍♀️ in the morning because I'm not a morning person" (while you also stay up watching Netflix until 1am)? You're making an excuse for not even attempting to get uncomfortable and either rearrange your sleep schedule (not always possible, I know!) OR make another time to get your workout done. You and I become so habituated to not only how we view ourselves, but how others see us, and making an attempt to change that, even when we KNOW it's for our own good, is… u n c o m f o r t a b l e to the point it's just easier to say "It's just who I am" 👊But not this time. THIS TIME, you're going to say YES to the opportunity to make you live a next level version. You, but even better. 👊You're not going to say "it's too hard" or "but I don't know how" or "I don't want to look like a fool" ✅Join us in DIGGING DEEPER than our excuses. Forget about what someone else might think - what are THEY doing to improve their life? Hint: if they're working on themselves, they'll cheer you on! Why am I even MORE focused on goals for my next program? I never just start a new program for the fun of it 🙃 I either re-do one that gave me amazing results or feelings so I can improve or repeat those, OR I go into a new one with a goal in mind, whether that's to gain strength, get more mobility in my hips and back, dive deeper into cardio fitness, or even a combination January 1 I'll be starting a new 💪lifting 💪program that's going to challenge what I think I'm capable of😎 The best part is, YOU can do this too! 🤜🤛 ✅We're going to build muscle like you've probably never built before - with structure ✅We're going to set up, or improve, morning and night routines that make our days run better - with accountability ✅We're going to improve how we eat, and some of us will be eating more food than we ever thought we should eat - with support A New Year's Resolution can't do all that! 🔥Knowing a hip replacement is in my not-too-distant future, I want to use this program to build so much strength that I can push that off for as long as possible 🔥Knowing that weight lifting helps increase and stabilize bone density and keep metabolism up, I'm going to use this program to lift heavy 🔥Knowing that weight lifting can improve sleep, I'm going to work my🍑 off and sleep better! Is "getting healthy" an All or Nothing deal? If you just want a *general improvement in your health*, you need to move a bit more, and eat a little better, than you are now. Nothing fancy, maybe it's just walking 20-30 minutes a day if you currently do nothing but walk to and from your car, or replacing your normal side of fries with a side salad. ⁣⁣⁣ But if you want to *change the shape of your body*, which usually means smaller here (fat loss), maybe bigger there (muscle gain), then you need to make more changes. You don't have to totally upheave your movement and food, but it has to be more than just something small. If all you want to do is lose weight, you can do that by improving how you eat. Notice I didn't say "just eat less food" 😁 But, while you might lose fat weight, you won't be adding muscle weight, and in many cases, you may even be losing muscle weight😕That's not what you want.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Don't look at the scale for anything other than as a tool to see how daily activities affect that number. Look at the *shape of your body* and the *fit of your clothes* to determine if the exercise and eating habits you have are doing what you REALLY want (and not just settling for!) ⁣⁣⁣ If you want to change the shape of your body, it takes consistent, uncomfortable but highly rewarding work. ⁣ January 1, we are all starting a program that will change how you view what's possible for you, forever. It will change what you think you know about your body, and your thought patterns. How many January 1s have you let go by without making the changes you said you wanted? Do you ever imagine what you'd do if you were guaranteed to not fail? We have to teach ourselves, FORCE ourselves, to see a new set of possibilities beyond our current stories and circumstances. Otherwise, we plateau, we get comfortable with being more and more UNcomfortable. And then we settle, comfortably uncomfortable, into a life we're just settling for. Maybe you still have some work to do in your nutrition Maybe you want to reach a new level of fitness Maybe it's about new possibilities that are a few years away from today. It all seems hard when you start, especially if all you do is compare where you are today, to where you want to be. If you're a runner, and you set your sights on a marathon, that seems SO impossible because right now you can't even run a mile! But then, you do! And then you run a 5k, then a 10k, half marathon, and then, the marathon. And then, maybe, you set your sights on an ULTRA marathon :O And at some point you think - why did I think running 1 mile would be so hard? What are you waiting for? The days and weeks and years are going by regardless of what you do with them. If you're already thinking "I should have started last year", then why are you STILL waiting?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Wait, yes, I do - you, my girlfriend, YOU need to hear this!🫵 ❌You're not going to bulk up by lifting weights, even heavy weights. Not unless you lift very heavy, for a few years, eat more food than you can imagine eating, and take supplements. You don't have the testosterone to get bulky. You may get bulkIER than your non-lifting self. But you're not going to be swimming in muscle. ❌You can't lose fat in just 1 area. Body composition changes don't work like that. You can't do hip thrusts and lose fat around your waist. Fat loss comes from a calorie deficit, not your workouts. So what WILL happen when you exercise and eat to your goals? ✅You WILL gain lean muscle mass, muscles that are firmer Your genetics will dictate how your muscles grow. My husband has the genetics of lean muscle, strong as heck, but even for a guy, he cannot bulk up. I on the other hand can put on reasonable muscle if I lift heavy enough and long enough. ✅You WILL lose fat Where you start losing first is largely genetics, whether it's the back of your arms or your hips. How fast it comes off depends way more on how you're eating than how you're exercising. These 2 pictures show what looks like a LOT of muscle, but when unflexed, I'm pretty normal! I'd have to lose a lot more body fat for my arm muscles to be much more defined. . If you're ready to take on a challenge of changing how you view what you're capable of, changing your relationship with food, find out what you're mentally and physically capable of, ready to DIG DEEPER on the way to getting stronger and changing your life, YOU ARE MY PEOPLE! :D And we NEED to do this together!! Did you know? It's sort of common sense, if you really think it through, but maybe it hasn't seemed like it in your situation. Why? You've probably never stuck with it long enough, or actually tracked your actions and progress. WHAT am I talking about? Consistency. Precision Nutrition looked at 1000 clients, over 12 months, with over 1 million data points and found that: 💪women who were consistently eating healthier just 10-49% of the time, lost an average of 11lb, 6% of their weight, 11" total, and 3" from their waist 💪being consistent 50-79% of the time resulted in 12lb, 7%, 15" and 3.5" respectively 10% didn't get as much results as 49% did. Not surprising. But read that again - 10% better still made a difference! And when you focus on even the small things going well, your confidence and happiness go up. A lot. Even better, they found that these women's circumstances did NOT determine what they were able to do. It didn't matter how big a dumpster fire their life was, they made ways to instill the consistency at a level they were comfortable with. Some improved over time, as any new habits allow us to do if we choose. AND, when things got even more chaotic, they simply scaled back - they did not quit! Quitting is never useful, and it only makes starting again that much harder. Progress. Not perfection. 🔥This is why you can't keep waiting for the right time. 🔥This is why you can't say "I can't stick to things if I can't go all in" 🔥This is why this WILL work if you J U S T S T A R T I'm not here to cheer you on for just a month. Or 2. Or 3. I'm here to cheer you on for as long as you're interested in the environment and the tools to get the changes you really want. I'm here for the woman who is sick and tired of not only being sick and tired, but of making the excuses about why she hasn't said Yes to something that will change her life. Is that you? Say YES!!

Let's settle this once and for all... I have in the past done, and will be doing again at the end of this month, a workout program that's designed with more precision in maximizing results. And it's not just about the workouts. It's about the FOOD. A lot of die-hards, the ones that follow ALL the rules ALL the time, are pretty vocal about MUSTs - must eat this blend of macros X minutes before your workout so you're not working out in a fasted state AND you have all the optimal fuel to eek out the absolute most from the workout. And they're not wrong. BUT, I am not, and most likely you are not, that person. I'm not getting ready for a body building competition, and neither are most of the women I work with. SOME of these women already get up at 4:30 so they can get in their work out, and if they believed they had to get up any earlier in order to eat something, or the program "won't work", they just won't do the program, and that is NOT helpful The solution is to do what works best for YOU. 💪YOUR goals. 💪YOUR time constraints. I don't mean never try new things because it's uncomfortable. ✅You HAVE to eat differently, and work out differently, if you want to change your body composition. ✅You HAVE to alter your evening routine if you want to sleep better and set yourself up for a more productive tomorrow. But you DON'T have to dial in any of this to the extreme that others are doing, if you aren't going for those results. Let's talk mindset (don't run away!) You can basically divide your attitude into 2 categories: ✅Growth mindset ❌Fixed mindset For the most part, we’re one or the other in everything in our lives If you're someone who thinks your current circumstances are just how your life will always be, that you can't do anything about getting past any of it because of X, Y, and Z, then it's a self-fulfilling prophecy - until you ditch the X Y Z excuses, you truly can't move towards the life you say you want. That's a fixed mindset. 😞And it's so DISempowering 😞 But, if you see time, or money, or resources, as obstacles, but also actively seek to use them as reasons why you MUST do something about it, you have a growth mindset. You understand things CAN change, if you choose. That's a growth mindset. 💪And it's so EMpowering!💪 Seeing "the obstacle is the way" (awesome book by Ryan Holiday) is the way we all grow. If you only see obstacles as the things that hold you back, hold you down, keep you stuck, you're going to stay stuck Many of these obstacles are figments of our imagination too, because we just take them at face value. "I'm too busy" is a common one, it's a badge of honor today :( But since the vast majority of people have a lot more time than they think, never sitting down to accurately track what you do, and see you actually have 2 more HOURS a day from mindlessly scrolling social media and watching Netflix, it seems like you can't fit a single thing more in. And you're RIGHT, but what gets ignored is that in order to have/be/do more, something has to go, in order to add what's actually going to make a difference I could tell you story after story after story of women who have been working 2 jobs and raising kids as a single mom, or who asked for money for their birthday instead of presents, or who did something despite their partner's utter lack of support, in order to make the changes needed to change their circumstances to something of their choosing. The good news is that you can 100% change from fixed to growth. It’s a choice ❤️ Where do you fit in?

[TW: Self Harm] Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) is an international event recognised across the globe, occurring every year on March 1st. It is an important day for raising awareness around self-harm: educating people who do not experience its affects, and reaching out to those who do. In today’s post, we have laid out some important information as to why we should be talking more about self-injury, the reasons people may partake, and some helpful resources for those who may be in need of it. It is one of the biggest and best opportunities for us to talk about these issues for the estimated 1.25million people in the UK going through them. This week is important for raising awareness about the cause, the prevalence, and the support we can all access for and around eating disorders. The media contributes so much to the poor relationships many of us have with our bodies, but it also warps our perception of what exactly eating disorders and disordered eating can look like, too - to the point that many may not be aware that they are experiencing it at all. In today’s post, we’ve identified some of the most common subtypes and what to look our for in understanding your own relationships with food and eating. Knowing to recognise the signs and how and when to intervene with both ourselves and those around us can make all the difference to a recovery journey. The New Year is here so it's time to let go of the past, let go of the things that don't serve you and move forward. One of my hobbies is crafting and I've spent the last few days clearing out the old and unused to give me a nicer place to be creative. It's been really cathartic to let things go. For me, I know I need to let things go physically rather than metaphorically. I honestly feel so much better so the hard work was worth it. I now have a calm space to work in - I also use this room as my home office so it's nice and relaxing now with no chaos to cloud my mind. Moving on with your life and not holding onto the things that don't serve you can be hard. I would love to be able to work with you to help you let go of the things that don't serve you, like anxiety, stress, issues from your past, bad habits. Whatever you need help with my door is open. I can help you. I can also help with pet bereavement. I know how much losing your beloved pet can hurt. We have the anniversary of losing our first dog Nemo coming up on Thursday. He's been gone almost 7 years and still remains in our hearts, our memories and our conversations. We may not be able to see him but he is always here with us.
