• TWENTY SIX . TWO • I am a marathoner 🥹 so so so proud of this accomplishment. So proud of and thankful for the best friends to train and race with 🩷 I almost talked myself out of this race. My training block was far from ideal. But how can it be when you’re a busy mama to four crazy boys and a night(ish) shift peds ER RN. I tried my best to be realistic with my training but also not overdo it. My main goal today was just to finish, my goal in the back of my mind was to finish by 6.5hrs (or secretly maybe 6hrs). This body is so strong and amazing. Less than one official year running and barely a year postpartum from our youngest and I have 1 marathon, 2 half marathons, 2 15Ks, 2 10Ks, and several 5Ks under my belt- the journey has just begun 😈 sry @therealtrac3 you didn’t realize you were marrying a runner 🤪 We #RunToRemember the horrific even on April 19, 1995 and the 168 victims who lost their lives. Today was for them 🖤💚 “We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived and those changed forever. May all who leave here know the impact of violence. I’m still a runner 🏃♀️ (and always will be!) even though I’ve shifted my focus to strength and power ⚡️ For the last 10+ years, I’ve done loads of endurance work ie marathons, half marathons and long course triathlons but now, I’m shifting my focus to sprinting and speed work peppered in with zone 2 easy running. Some tempo runs here and there to keep things interesting. Mighty Mouse 🐭 is kicking my 🍑 on every 100m sprint in our track workouts together and we love it! Originally, I only planned to sign up for this weekend's 10k. But a dear friend of mine convinced me otherwise! She said to me, "Girl. Why not pay a few more dollars and do the half with me!?" I said, "Idk man. That's A LOT of miles.. I've never done anything more than 3.5 at a crack." She told me, "Eh. You can do it! It's just 7 more miles than a 10k 🤣" I replied, "Ya know. I WAS thinking about how cute it'd be to run by my house seeing Tommy and the kids waving at me as I run by." So. Here I am. Not much convincing was needed, I guess. 🤣 Just a slight push and someone to remind me that I can do hard things! ❤️ Never did I think I'd be running a half marathon. And ESPECIALLY NOT at only being 8 months and 18 days post partum!! 😳😲 (I WILL toot my own horn. 💁♀️ I AM DAMN FREAKING PROUD OF MYSELF FOR TODAY! When I started this running journey nearly 5 years ago, the only thing I set out to do was run 1 mile without stopping. Little did I know where it would take me. Or how hard the past 5 years would be. I had no idea how high the highs would be, how low the lows would bring me down, or the speed in which this roller coaster ride would take me. And it REALLY has been one helluva ride…especially the past couple of years as my body and mind slog through all of these hormone changes. But I’m grateful for all of it. Because the growth I’ve had has landed me here, able to let go of so many things…pace, time, distance, and all of the expectations I’ve had for myself and thought others had of me. It’s helped me find more compassion and grace for myself and others. I’ve learned a helluva lot about commitment, courage, resilience and strength on this journey. And every day I’m able to wake up and lace up my shoes again, I’m grateful because I know not everyone has gotten or will get that chance. Which is why it was so important for me to look outside of myself and my own goals this year, and find a way to give back while doing something I love. Truth be told, I started this journey for me. But it turned into something I was doing for accolades and validation from others. As nice as that is, it’s not why I’m here. At least not anymore. Which is why I decided to raise money for a cause that’s become really important me while training for Grandma’s (Garry Bjorkland) half marathon this year. Mile in My Shoes helps bring running to those who might not otherwise have the opportunity to do it. They support those experiencing homelessness, those who are struggling with addiction or are in recovery, and/or are reentering the community after incarceration or military service. Mike in My Shoes connects these people with housing and employment opportunities, start running with new shoes and running gear, improve health, wellbeing and mental health through support from mentoring and running opportunities. TRAILRUN with a view… 33,6 km, 920 Höhenmeter und 4 Stunden über den Steig rund um den Baldeneysee⛰️🏃♀️! Mit Sonnenaufgang bin ich bereits gestartet, somit hatte ich den Steig für mich alleine… nur die Natur und ich! Bestes Laufwetter, wunderschöne Trails, viele Tiere - 2 Rehe, Eichhörnchen, Fuchs, Schwäne, Enten…und tolle Aussichten. Es war einfach herrlich😍! Nach 3:15 Std war die Runde inkl. aller Aussichtspunkte geschafft. Dann gab‘s zum direkten Vergleich als Test einen Schuhwechsel vom Catamount 3 zum Caldera 7 von @brooksrunningde und meine Stöcke für die letzten 45 Min! Bis zum Zugspitz-Ultratrail ist ja noch etwas Zeit! Ich bin mir wegen der Schuhe noch nicht ganz sicher…🙌🏻 Trainingswoche 9/16 beende ich mit 95 km, 3380 Hm, 11:30 Trainingsstunden, sowie 2 Std Krafttraining+Dehnen! Insgesamt eine sehr erfolgreiche Woche, in der ich ordentliche Fortschritte gemerkt habe🤩💪🏻🔥! Ich hoffe du hattest auch einen tollen Sonntag🫶🏻! 5k and I thought that was going to be utterly grim as the weather is awful (shock 🙄). . But! It was actually a lovely run. My legs felt surprisingly really good. I had my hat on and some good music and just zoned out. Lovely! . It’s funny because running and walking are when I get some blissful respite from my wrist pain. This week’s runs. It’s getting warmer in the land of the rising sun. I’m thinking it might be time to crack out the shorts and the tank tops. I managed to run outside on all (both) the days we had no rain and I got two tm sessions courtesy of three days off work with a pukie sick eldest. (I ran while he was asleep, don’t come for me). For a very tiring and stressful week, I’m happy with a one km increase. Drove 9 hours total to see the smile and hear the squeals of these kids playing on the beach for 24 hours 🤩 It seemed like a bit much but honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted to stay another day 😂. It was the perfect amount of time to go and completely empty every last charge of battery I had and make it back just in time to recharge before losing my mind 🔋 Spencer was out of town on business and Kristen mentioned she was taking the boys for a quick trip and I didn’t hesitate to invite myself! We both had an extra set of hands thanks to our moms for joining and the kids enjoyed playing! There was little sleep to be had but honestly not too many meltdowns. Kids are tired and so am I but no time for that… We’ve got to unpack and repack for phx in the morning! I had major FOMO of everyone running on the beach but ultimately just didn’t think it’d be fair to take time to go run when we were there for such a short time. I’ve also been feeling a little burnt out so while it was hard for me to take 3 days of rest, it was worth it. Ready for 10 miles in the morning!
It’s finally here🥳 Tomorrow morning I’ll be running my first marathon!! This has been a life goal for over a decade and it’s finally happening. I’ve put my all into these past 4+ months of training and now it’s time to go out there & have some fun! HERMES 10 MILER ✅ Race Recap: Based on my training runs, I thought that I would be lucky to finish just under two hours. I still have been doing run/walk intervals and incorporated very little speed work. I surprised myself and finished in 1:37 flat. I felt really, really good. I pretty much maintained a 9 minute run/1 minute walk interval. There were some hills with nearly 7% grade that I chose to walk. However, I was much speedier on the run intervals than I have been during training. Very happy with today’s performance! 12 miles at 33 weeks 🥳 finished with Lee-On-Solent parkrun (25:43). . So happy with this run. Took it nice and easy running 9 miles down to the start. Met Kyle and Isaac and then Isaac had fun in the park with his auntie and cousin whilst we ran. . I found the 2nd mile of parkrun a slog I have to say. I felt a bit drained. But then the final mile I suddenly got a 2nd wind and sped up. . I felt like I was flying 🏃🏻♀️💨 and managed to squeak a sub-8min mile! Haven’t seen one of those in a while 😅 .
