In life and business I make it a priority to focus on the positives and live in deep gratitude for the life we have, but I often feel like this is the only part I am allowed to show. My story starts from my teens… From a teen I felt like I never belonged. I felt isolated and never felt like I belonged anywhere. I would often isolate myself in my room and listen to music just to stop the overthinking and negative thoughts. My family would often ask me why I hide away all the time but they thought it was just normal teen behaviour. It then got worse and it felt like I was in destructive mode. I would often break things and become very secretive. It then spiralled out of control when I started self harming. I struggled to hide it from people and when they did find out there was one comment that hurt me deeply. “Are you just doing it for attention” this one comment still plays on my mind as it came from someone that I’ve always looked up to 💔 Since then my mental health has been like a rollercoaster. I’ve lost family members and dear friends down the line. The day came when I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety I was 19 years old. I went and told the news about my diagnosis to a family member it was like they thought I was overreacting and making it up. No one believed that I had mental health or even a diagnosis. I felt so alone and felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone 😢 From my diagnosis to now I’ve had events happen that have caused my mental health to spiral out of control. From parents separating, toxic relationships, lockdowns to grief. It’s all chipped away at my mind and taken my true self. I really thought this Christmas would feel even more magical, but right now I am not feeling it at all. Underneath all the happy posts of smiles and cuteness my postnatal depression and anxiety still eat away at me. Also the guilt of feeling the way I do, being a Mother should be a happy time, yet I am finding it the biggest and darkest challenge I have ever faced in my life. I thought the newborn stage was difficult and I have been waiting for the period where everyone tells you at the start "it gets better." I am yet to see it, for me I feel it is only getting worse. I just find it all a little overwhelming. I have had one of those shit Mother days, Lochlan has screamed and been unsettled all day, I cannot figure out why. He is also going through a headbutting stage and I feel my nose and ear are physically broke, all is getting too much. Also the huge amount of guilt I feel for struggling as people look down upon me for it. I have had people tell me to pull myself together and that I have a beautiful son and should be glad he isn't a crier or this and that.
