Please join in me chEARS’ing Joe on a new job!!! 🎉 👏🏻🥂 The literal day before we were supposed to fly to Anaheim for a week at Disneyland and participate in the all three runDisney races and the Coast to Coast Challenge, Joe unexpectedly lost his job of 10 years. (Couldn’t have been better timing 🙄) It was quite traumatic, we cancelled the trip, and the last couple weeks have been a roller coaster (and not the fun kind). HOWEVER this smart, talented, and handsome guy put himself out there immediately and got a new (and better) job!!! To say I’m proud, is an understatement. Last week we finally got to check out Universal’s Great Movie Escape! This attraction located in CityWalk features two escape rooms: Jurassic Park and Back to the Future. We didn’t need to call King Julien for help and were able to escape Jurassic Park with some friends! This wasn’t your typical escape room but in the best way imaginable. Happy birthday to me but more importantly thank you to Joe. Last weekend, Joe surprised me with a staycation at Port Orleans French Quarter AND got my folks to come & celebrate with me. It was probably the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me and it filled my cup to spend time with family and enjoy the magic at the parks! It’s no secret things have been hard the past couple months. Starting a new job, having knee surgery, and depression has been bringing me down lately but having Joe by my side and planning the most incredible weekend really made my heart so full and I feel truly grateful. I can confirm the worst part about surgery is not eating after midnight the night before. Tore my meniscus a couple weeks ago in a roller derby game and yesterday had my first ever surgery to clean it up. They also found some loose cartilage they were able to remove and arthritis. My knee is bone on bone in places but I’ll find out more at my post op appointment what that actually means 😵💫 Before you say “running is bad for your knees” please know that this is actually not true and I will continue running marathons and living an active lifestyle because it positively affects every aspect of my life. I have cleared my spring race and game schedules and I don’t have any races on the calendar until Fall (looking at you Wine and Dine) to allow full healing and no stress to get better by a certain date. I’m scared I’ll never get back to where I was as I was already struggling with getting back to precovid performance. But I really want this “comeback” to be a healthy one. I miss running so much and I’m just thankful my body allows me to carry it all these miles. I also struggle with disordered eating and body dismorphia so I’m scared navigating that through injury. I’ve shared a lot on this page including my almost 100 lb weight loss so I also want to document my recovery and hope it shows just how far I’ve come not just physically but mentally and emotionally. I’ll take it one step, day, mile at a time just how I always do. Last night we got to ride Tron Lightcycle Run as part of Annual Passholder previews! The aesthetics of this coaster are sleek and cool and launch was so much fun but waiting for one of the two cars that have lap bar seating (ain’t no way my hurt knee would’ve made it on that bike) was disappointing. Weighing in at 14 oz and 7x7” I present to you the biggest #medalmonday from the Space Coast Marathon! I had a time goal at the start of training for this race but then in August I got Covid. Then in October I was diagnosed with runners knee. I only got up to 16 miles this training cycle. The self doubt was the only thing that increased and the second picture is an accurate depiction of race day. Racing is hard. Marathons are hard. But to endure is to persevere. Much like a flower doesn’t bloom every season, we can’t expect to PR every time. I learned a lot this season and while it’s not quite over (really gotta learn to look at a calendar before registering) I can’t wait to take what I learned into next season. Congratulations to all the athletes this weekend!
