Esecranda Volume 8 L' antologia contiene i migliori racconti partecipanti all' ottava edizione del premio Esecranda. Il libro è ben confezionato e disponibile in più varianti: copertina morbida o rigida, a colori o in b/n. I racconti sono 18 e ciascuna storia è arricchita da un' illustrazione particolare partorita dall' immaginazione di Lellinux. I racconti sono piuttosto vari, alcuni più riusciti di altri(come avviene in ogni raccolta di questo mondo) ma toccano tutti tematiche e aspetti differenti. Il mio racconto preferito è Alterazione del sottosuolo(Paolo Bertoglio), una storia che può essere inserita nel filone "infanzia e biciclette", dove le avventure estive di tre amici porteranno all' incontro con creature mostruose. Altri racconti che mi sono piaciuti: -Il fantasma del vecchio mulino(Andy dei Fiori) una storia di fantasmi che vede per protagonisti dei ragazzi e un cadente mulino abbandonato. -Vuk(Alessandro Di Giuseppe) un racconto di guerra, crudo e feroce, condito con aspetti soprannaturali. -Vivono nei buchi(Davide Emanuele), il vincitore del concorso, che si caratterizza per un' ambientazione suggestiva, con la presenza di insetti giganti e sullo sfondo la tragica vicenda di Alfredino. -L'elefante rosa di papà(David Chance Fragale) una sorta di viaggio psichedelico nella mente di uno "scienziato pazzo" e nei sentimenti di sua figlia. Chiude la raccolta È solo inferno, un mio racconto che prova a descrivere la realtà da un altro punto di vista. In Mesoamerican folk religion, the term "Nahual" (pronounced [na'wal]) refers to people who have the ability to shapeshift into their tonal animal counterpart. Yes! We're talking about humans transforming into animals at will. This is a classic legend widely believed throughout Latin America, particularly in rural areas, where many people will tell you about witnessing shape-shifting individuals late at night. Nahuals are not innately good or wicked; it is up to the individual's disposition.There are stories about great wizards or shamans using their abilities to commit crimes at night, steal property, inflict disease in retaliation, or simply out of wickedness. - «con molto buonsenso, prudenza e intelligenza è possibile evitare il ripetersi di una disgrazia, ma non si scappa da una maledizione». è così che ha avuto inizio il mio viaggio tra le pagine delle tre storie che compongono questa raccolta, che mi rimarrà impressa per diverso tempo. la prima storia l’ho letta tutta d’un fiato, in un pomeriggio assolato mentre ascoltavo un album di musica composta al pianoforte (playing piano for dad di h hunt, non so se qualcuno lo conosce). la melodia di sottofondo mi ha guidato in viuzze sconosciute, tra le pennellate di un quadro sventurato, davanti a uno specchio di ferro battuto. ci ho trovato poesia, oscura e indomabile, e l’ossessione che per me rende una storia da brividi tale. osservando la macchiolina nera sulla mia mano destra, ho girato pagina e sono arrivata alla seconda storia, che mi ha straziato la mente per la sua complessità e l’incertezza su ciò che fosse vero o meno nel narrato. personalmente la definirei una storia di fantascienza e non mi stupirei se certi autori come quello de”il problema dei tre corpi” l’avesse letta. l’umanità, come spesso accade, è vista come il vero mostro per le atrocità di cui è capace contro se stessa. il suo futuro è sempre incerto, barcollante, e intriso di intrighi tessuti da entità spaziali che probabilmente ci hanno visti nascere. da giove sono stata ricatapultata sulla terra, in un castello infestato di quelli che mi piace definire home sweet home. anche qui l’uomo si mostra come una creatura crudele, dal quale sarebbe meglio fuggire. persino un mucchietto di cianfrusaglie, un po’ d’ossa, un lenzuolo e delle pile saprebbero fare di meglio e saprebbero provare emozioni forti, addirittura un senso di lealtà e amicizia, proprio come la versione del mostro di frankenstein di Prévot. per quanto diverse nel tema, questi tre micromondi creati dall’autore sono stati per me una scoperta eccezionale, e non vedo l’ora di leggere altro scritto da lui. | 📓 @alcatrazedizioni | #alcatrazedizioni #edizionialcatraz #gerardprevot #gérardprévot #lanottedelnord #weird #weirdstories #leggere #leggeresempre #reading #readit #demoni #demons #haunted #hauntedcastle #giove

Tell Tales of Fallen Fairies Unfitting, outcast. Wall, they veered like elephants in sneakers, umbrellas in spandex, elbows greased with mink oil, not to disturb the light of mountains scarred by the likes of those who wanted to be you until they found out you were what they were. The wizened whispered between divine particles of air, as if all the children of the world were in each drop of water in a desert no longer there. And the sewer gratings creaked by rats washed in murk rivers of sewage where the currents worked the exits like panhandling pickpockets groping submerged skulls that detached from necks on wavering bodies feet stuck in a cement no one would ever see or weigh except the sediment worms that hollowed the pipe dreams of bacteria only too small to think of the architects of demise. The anti Christs patted each other on the back with blades as blunt as spears, but no one had ears to hear the screaming of the quiet. And all the people went to sleep curled into each other, if they had no other, curled into themselves, as if nothing had ever happened and nothing whatever were. Yet those who would not sleep stared into the deep of whatever was not who they were. As it were. It was as it ever was. San Diego Lightfoot Sue(Tom Reamy) Storie strane, misteriose, come misterioso è il fatto che questa raccolta sia così poco pubblicizzata. A mio avviso questo è un capolavoro della letteratura di genere, non ci sono dubbi: se vi fidate ok, se non vi fidate sti cazzi. Mentre procedevo nella lettura due erano i pensieri che mi accompagnavano in sottofondo: 1-Tom Reamy era un narratore sublime 2-Quanto fosse triste che uno scrittore di questo talento sia morto così giovane, a 42 anni, lasciando in eredità solo questa raccolta e un unico romanzo, privando i lettori di tantissime altre storie fantastiche. I racconti sono 11, tutti di alto livello tranne un paio di storie. 5 storie poi sono di livello altissimo. San Diego Lightfoot Sue che da il titolo alla raccolta vale da solo l' acquisto. Un adolescente rimasto orfano lascia il Kansas e si trasferisce a Los Angeles. Nella città attirerà con la sua ingenuità una miriade di personaggi bizzarri, trovando pure l'amore. Il giovane Detweiler è un altro capolavoro. Si tratta di una gustosa storia del genere hard boiled, dove il classico investigatore privato di una Los Angeles sporca e cattiva, scopre che ogni tre giorni una persona muore nelle vicinanze in cui ha pernottato un bellissimo giovane affetto da una spiacevole deformità. Aspettando Billy Star è invece una storia malinconica, la storia di un amore inspiegabile che sconvolge il sonnacchioso equilibrio di una tavola calda in una cittadina desolata del Texas. Sotto la scritta di Hollywood narra le vicende di un poliziotto che scopre che sul luogo di tremendi incidenti, tra la folla è sempre presente un bellissimo ragazzo dai capelli rossi. Twilla invece ci parla di una strana ragazzina che si trasferisce in una cittadina del Kansas e pare avere un fortissimo ascendente sui nuovi compagni di classe. It’s organized chronologically so I got stuck for awhile around the 1980s which is my least favorite period of weird fiction, but things picked up again for me around the late 1990s. Unsurprisingly, most of my favorites in this collection were written in the early half of the 1900s, but I also enjoyed a bunch of more recent stories and overall, this was an excellent journey through the history of weird fiction. 3 Little Known Facts About Me: 1. I once had aspirations of competing at the XGames in Aggressive Inline Skating. Funny story- Years after training in Edmonton with my friend Andrew, I ran into him at the Earls in Whistler (at this point he had become a well known snowboarder). When we greeted each other, he leaned in and discreetly asked me not to let on to his friends that he ever used to inline skate. How rude. 2. When I played volleyball in the Faroe Islands, I worked in a fish factory on the side in order to make some extra cash and avoid getting bored between practices. I got fired from the conveyor belt (weighing fish) because I was too slow and they’d end up all over the floor. But then I got tendinitis from building tote boxes in the factory all day, so I became a nanny for a missionary family from Hawaii. When they realized I couldn’t drive down the narrow cobblestone roads without clipping other vehicles, I resorted back to just playing volleyball. 3. I attended 6 different colleges and universities after graduating from high school. U of Winnipeg and U of A to play volleyball, U of C so I could ride bikes while I finished University; Mount Royal to start my RMT certification (but never completed), NWHSU in Minneapolis to begin my Chiropractic Doctorate and WSCC in Portland to finish it. (Of note: I lived downtown Winnipeg on the street with the highest murder rate in Canada, but it was cheap and directly across from the University.) They were middlemen buying music & records from music labels and then selling to mom and pop record shops around New York. My father obtained these collectible Elvis Presley 1975 calendar cards from the RCA record label. This vintage 1975 card calendar features the iconic Elvis Presley and includes images of the rock & roll legend. Produced by RCA Records, this original piece of music memorabilia was made in the United States. It is a must-have for any avid Elvis Presley fan and collector. There may be slight scratches, worn edge or scuffs. Item delivered may be slightly better or slightly worse than stock photo. These have sat in my fathers desk for the last 40+ years.
