The stress of the fire and its aftermath has been so much more harrowing than I ever thought– and, I will be obvious when I say it was easier for us than it is for most people, because of insurance and the fact that we had some emergency savings we could use up. Yes, use *up*. But we’re two-and-half months out from the fire and I almost look and feel human again, at least. Still so much is unknown. But don’t zoom in on the hair. A reminder that healing isn’t linear. These days I feel so much more able than I have in so long that I lose sight of the reality. That reality is that I am having moments of doing much better and starting to do more things, like leave the house, but with that comes a very hard crash. I sleep a lot more, I get weird side effects and generally have low lows after anything I do. This can be frustrating as I start to think I could maybe get on with my life, work more, see friends or actually go for things I want..and then to hit that crash/return of pain/inability to function again. I somehow feel like I’m even less creative then when I was in bed all day, and I can’t seem to get anything done either. Im so lucky I got to do a few things last week around my bday but I just miss my friends and being able to do the things I want to! I’m just posting about this because I want you to know I get it. If you’re struggling, it can feel hard. But there’s a way out right? Apparently it’s patience but I’m losing some of mine! I’m just trying to use this time as a reminder to be gentle and patient with myself. I have been dealing with depression & anxiety since October of last year. It caused me to fall off the wagon until march of this year. I gained weight back that I worked so hard to get off. The depression also caused my confidence & self esteem to regress. Which for me was a big deal bc I’ve worked so hard to love my body through every stage of healing. I finally put on an outfit yesterday that was out of my comfort zone & worked it.
