After realizing the air-fryers, grills and barbecues are melting away most of the fats on my lamb chops, I switched to cooking them on frying pans. The taste was much better, a lot more flavor in my meat, and takes half as long to cook. Remeber, the fat on my meat is the best part of it, I love it, and you should too. I don’t eat breakfast and lunch. I am on OMAD protocol for almost 4 years now and I have never had breakfast unless there is a compelling reason. The few times my brain harasses me for food in the morning is when I don’t get proper sleep the night before. It has been established that a sleep deprived brain begs for that extra glucose to fight the sleepiness, fatigue and other effects associated with poor sleep. This past week I had one such lousy nights when I couldn’t sleep on time owing to work constraints. Next morning like I expected my brain was trying to get me to consume sugars and carbs for that instant glucose fix. Such a rare scenario calls for flexibility. In stead of fighting myself or succumbing to unhealthy cravings, I had myself a healthy filling of cheese. With zero carbs and nearly 50 grams of fats and 40 grams of protein, it gave everything my brain needed while not breaking my commitment to glucose feee morning. "Seek and you shall find" Matthew 7:7 Just because you are on the ketogenic diet doesn't mean you should give up on an occasional indulgence. Most restaurant menus are designed to cater to regular diners, and have eye-catching dishes filled with carbs and transfats. However, if you are creative enough, and committed enough, you should always be able to "tweak" their offerings to pick the healthiest among their dishes, or eliminate harmful things like white rice and noodles altogether. Also, stay the F away from the dessert menu. Here is my recent visit to my neighborhood Thai restaurant. Thai food is in fact very conducive to carnivore/Keto diet as long as you pick their curries and tell them to avoid rice. I've ordered their green curry on its own without any noodles or rice. Keto Saved My Life Most people would be embarrassed by the picture on the left. I was too. That picture was about 5 years old, and serves as a constant reminder of what a dangerous downward spiral I was on when it came to health. Mind you, I was not doing anything "wrong" per conventional wisdom. I was eating 5 times a day, eating smaller portions but multiple meals, and I have avoided dietary fat like poison. Also, I ate very little meats because of course, meats will kill you. And I was killing myself at the gym everyday. Yet, I weighed about 100 kilos, and, I looked like this. A chance encounter with a doctor's YouTube video got me started on intermittent fasting, and the ketogenic diet. It was not a fad, nor a magical diet, didn't involve any surgical procedures. The weight loss was relatively swift, about 25 kilos in 18 months, and I was able to build muscle along the way. I never felt hungry, miserable or lethargic. I just feel virile. This new found energy and positive outlook made me a better person, better husband, better father and a better colleague. Had I not discovered keto and fasting I would have become a type-2 diabetic, which is a downward slope of more and more insulin, blood pressure issues and heart issues. You have no idea how grateful I am. Keto saved my life, and I am pretty sure it can save yours too. I’ve been striving to keep my #carbohydrates low on a busy schedule, and have quickly come to the realization that nearly anything “convenient”, like #takeout or #delivery, is rarely #lowcarb. As a result, I’m finding that if I don’t do extensive prep on Sunday, I end up stuck at every hiccup in schedule during the week. Tonight I’m on day 2 of a terrible headache, and not up to cooking, so about 8 ounces of Sunday’s leftover broiled #salmon joined two tablespoons of #Dukes #mayonnaise (no sugar), a finely chopped stalk of #celery, about a tablespoon of minced #onion, and a handful of #pecans to become a quick and lovely salmon salad. I served it with Innofoods Keto Crackers. The crackers are a new discovery from Costco, and are quite nice in moderation. I also enjoy their dark chocolate keto nuggets, and keto coconut clusters. Ketovore Challenge - Day Three . . Breakfast was the usual eggs and bacon but the eggs weren't very nice today (got cheaper ones and I added almond milk to them, so they were really bland - no more adding almond milk to eggs 😂) . . Lunch was Tuna, eggs, a little salad and half an avocado. . . Dinner was just a beef burger topped with feta cheese. I was still bloated and full from lunch, so didn't really want it, but glad I had it now. . . Drinks I've been having hot chocolate with fat in, with sweetener. My A1C is 5.7!🌞 Super happy with my cauliflower pizza crust. It doesn't pretend to be the same as dough... it still has a nice chew and holds together really well and it's plenty satisfying and filling Too easy...a couple pounds of riced cauliflower. An egg (or 2 or your egg substitute). About a heaping half cup of parmesan and mozzarella, mostly parm. About a teaspoon of favorite Italian spices and 1/3 of a teaspoon of good old table salt... Apply Cuisinart or potato ricer... Form it on your oiled parchment paper... this recipe makes one considerably larger like this one or a couple generous medium size. Pre bake on olive oiled parchment for 25 minutes or so at about 400F... flip half way through if you want, I didn't. Let it cool for 15 min... Treat it like an uncooked pizza dough with your toppings stuff... bake at 450 until the top looks like the way you like it...15 min? Keep an eye on it. Great leftovers!
