Fasting has become super popular lately as a fat loss tool and has become the topic of a lot of debate. Here’s my opinion: A lot of the health & longevity benefits claimed from fasting are actually not much different from the benefits seen from creating a consistent calorie deficit. Basically, if you just reduce calories everyday, you’ll see all the same benefits. While I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing, I think it’s often used the wrong way and can lead to food-relationship issues. For anyone that has had an eating disorder in the past or tends to find themselves restricting and then binging on foods, fasting might not a great idea because it promotes those same behaviors. In addition, one of the biggest issues a lot of people face is an underconsumption of protein, fiber, and other essential nutrients. Reducing the time you allow yourself to eat in a day will only make this more difficult and can easily lead to other health issues down the road. So when is fasting okay? I think for people that don’t have any disordered eating patterns and for those that have no problem eating enough protein and a wide range of nutrients in a shortened window of time, it can be an acceptable eating strategy. Additionally, I think when used in spiritual practice it can have a lot of benefits. Simply abstaining from something can provide a positive experience. So this is 44. 🎂 I sure don’t feel 44. Man am I grateful for my family, friends and clients. I’ve come so far and built so much in this life. You really get out of it what you put in. All I can say is that I’m looking forward to the next 44 on this roller coaster! Things to live by that are way easier said than done. And some have taken me YEARS to actually learn as I had to unlearn other protective behaviors… 1. Take time to know yourself. 2. A narrow focus brings big results. 3. Show up fully. 4. Don’t make assumptions. 5. Be patient and persistent. 6. In order to get, you have to give. 7. Luck comes from hard work. 8. Be your best at all times. 9. Don’t try to impress everyone. 10. Don’t be afraid of being afraid. 11. Listen to learn. 12. Life’s good, but it’s not fair. 13. No task is beneath you. 14. You can’t always get what you want. 15. Don’t make decisions when you are angry or ecstatic. 16. Don’t worry what other people think. 17. Use adversity as an opportunity. 18. Do what is right, not what is easy. 19. Dreams remain dreams until you take action. 20. Treat others the way you want to be treated. 21. When you quit, you fail. 22. Trust your instincts. 23. Learn something new every day. 24. Make what is valuable important. 25. Choose your friends wisely and let go of those you didn’t. And it’s okay. And…. it’s OK if you don’t like me. 26. Be vulnerable! 27. Set boundaries. What keeps me MOTIVATED ⬇️ I hear it a lot it… “I just can’t stay motivated,” “My biggest struggle is keeping myself motivated to go to the gym and eat well.” First of all, I’m just gonna break it to y’all- even as coaches and life-long athletes by choice… We do NOT feel motivated all the time. In fact, MOST days, we don’t “feel” like doing it. But, there’s a cost to every action (or inaction). So what’s my biggest source of motivation to overcome that resistance day in and day out? It’s that FEELING SHITTY SUCKS‼️ That’s it. Mentally and physically, feeling shitty sucks; & pushing myself through discomfort for a short time each day is a cost I would much rather pay… than feeling shitty the rest of the time because I didn’t. Managing my fitness & nutrition are the most effective ways to prevent feeling shit, both in the short- and long-term. Trying to see how lean I can get in a short amount of time. Diet has been adjusted.
